    Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has congratulated Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, on his re-election as Governor of Anambra State, describing it as a clear endorsement of his outstanding performance and visionary leadership.

    In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, Nwifuru said Soludo’s victory at the November 8, 2025, governorship election reflected the confidence of Anambra people in his intellectual depth and commitment to development.

    “On behalf of the Government and the good people of Ebonyi State, I heartily congratulate Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, on his well-deserved victory at the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Gubernatorial Election,” the statement read.

    Governor Chukwuma Soludo has secured a second term in office until 2030 after he was declared the winner of the November 8 Anambra State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

    According to the results announced by INEC in the early hours of Sunday, Soludo won by a landslide in the 21 local government areas of the South-East state.

    The State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Omoregie Edoba, declared Soludo as the winner of the exercise after the collation of results from the local government areas of the state where the election was held.

    “I hereby declare that Soludo Chukwuma  Charles of the APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Edoba, a professor, told a gathering at the state headquarters of INEC in Awka, the state capital, where the election results were collated.

    Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured 422,664 votes to trounce his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Nicholas Ukachukwu, who polled 99,445 votes.

    Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes, while John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 8,208 votes.

    George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 10,576 votes and 1,401 votes, respectively.

    Shortly after the results were announced, party agents present signed the result sheet.

    Results have given Soludo a fresh four-year term at the Light House.

    Sixteen parties and their candidates contested for Anambra’s top job.

    Apart from Soludo and Ukachukwu, others are Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

    Also cleared by INEC are George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP), Echezona Oti of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Ms. Chioma Ifemeludike of the African Action Congress (AAC), Jeff Nweke of Action Alliance (AA), Charles Onyeze of Accord Party (AP), Geoff Onyejegbu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    Others are Chukwudubem Nweke of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Jerry Okeke of the Boot Party (BP), Ndidi Olieh of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Martin Ugwoji of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), and Vincent Chukwurah of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

    Soludo was first elected as governor on November 10, 2021, sweeping to victory in 19 of the 21 LGAs.

    Victory for the 65-year-old former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) signalled the end of the months-long electioneering dominated by debates over the state of affairs in Anambra.

    His opponents and critics accused him of failing to address insecurity and economic challenges plaguing Anambra residents.

    But the governor promised to consolidate on his achievements in the first four years if re-elected, banking on APGA’s 19-year grip on power in the state.

    The Governor of Anambra State and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has won the November 8 Anambra governorship election.

    Although INEC is yet to formally announce him as the winner, PACESETTER reports that at the end of the collation and publication of results of the 21 LGAs in the state, APGA’s Soludo polled 422,664 votes.

    Out of the total of 2,788,864 registered voters in Anambra, only 598,229 were accredited voters for the election.

    The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, came second with a total of 99,445, while that of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, came third with a total of 37,753 votes.

    The candidate of the Labour Party, Dr. George Moghalu, scored 10,576 votes, coming fourth.

  • Tinubu on a mission to restore the dignity, excellence of police, security agents – Gov. Mbah

    Governor of Enugu State and Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) Committee on the Revamp of Police and Other Security Training Institutions, Dr. Peter Mbah, says the initiative represents President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to urgently restore the dignity and excellence of the men and women of the Nigerian Police and other security agencies.

    Governor Mbah equally stressed that the nation could not, in good conscience, demand integrity and excellence from the security agents without first modeling those values in their training facilities.

    The governor stated these when members of the committee toured the Police Training School, Nonwa in Tai LGA of Rivers State, and the Police Training School, Oji River, Enugu State, on Thursday.

    He maintained that “this initiative re-echoes the president’s passion for getting things done and getting them done fast.”

    This was even as the Commandant of the Police Training School, Nonwa, ACP Daniel Okere, explained that the institution, which was apparently in a very poor state, trained men and women of the police force in 2022.

    Mbah, who was accompanied by a member of the committee, Prince Dapo Abiodun; Secretary of the committee and former IGP Baba Usman; as well as the host governor, Siminalayi Fubara, however, assured that the committee would not only ensure the proper capture of all that is needed to turn the institutions around, but equally oversee their reconstruction and re-equipping to meet 21st-century standards.

    “This committee was born out of the president’s recognition that we are at a security crossroads and nothing short of a complete and urgent overhaul is needed to ensure that we secure our future. The president recognises that security is paramount, and it is the primary responsibility of any government.

    “You may have been aware that the president has approved the recruitment of 30,000 new personnel for the police, and there is no way this recruitment will happen effectively if we do not have a training plan for these men and women.

    “So, we have come here for an on-the-spot assessment. We already have reports of the state of all the training institutions, both for the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, across the country.”

    Lamenting that the training institutions had suffered consistent neglect and resultant decay over the decades, Mbah lauded the president for recognising the need and urgency of fixing them to boost national security.

    “It is important that we underscore the point that this is being treated as an emergency; hence, everything about it, including the intervention fund for it, is being treated as such.

    “It is like a national mission to restore the integrity, the confidence, and the professionalism of the men and women who protect our communities. And that is what we have been charged with, and we must work to get it accomplished.

    “The first phase will be one month. This committee will also supervise the period of the renovation, reconstruction, and re-equipping to bring up to 21st-century standards. It is not going to be patch work. No. There will be a restoration of the dignity of these men and women,” he concluded.

    Corroborating Mbah’s statement, Governor Abiodun said that the initiative underscored President Tinubu’s “political will as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to support the law enforcement architecture.”

    “So, our team of consultants are also looking at all the training facilities across the country, and we will come up at the end of the day with a bill of quantity that truly reflects the budgetary requirements to turn these institutions around.

    “As the Chairman stated, we cannot incubate policemen in this kind of environment and expect them to behave like human beings. Whatever it is we expect of them, we must instill it in them while they are being trained,” he said.

    Governor Fubara, on his part, assured the nation would get it right now.

    “I am sure we are going to get it right. At the end of the day, the police will be motivated to act professionally like any other police in the world,” he said.

    BREAKING: Tinubu swears in Udeh, Doro as Ministers

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in two newly appointed Ministers, Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro and Mr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, at a brief ceremony inside the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

    The swearing-in took place just before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by the President.

    Doro, a pharmacist and lawyer from Plateau State, fills the ministerial vacancy created by former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who is now National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Doro and Yilwatda are from Plateau State.

    His nomination was confirmed by the Senate in late October.

    Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), from Enugu State, will be filling the vacancy created by the resignation of former Minister of Science, Innovation, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who resigned following allegations of certificate forgery.

    Udeh’s appointment was confirmed by the Senate earlier on Thursday, following a brief screening session during plenary. Until his elevation to the federal cabinet, he served as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State.

    The FEC swung into session immediately after a report presented by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, on the state of the economy.

    The FEC, which is still ongoing, as at the time of filing this report, has the Secretary to the Government of the Federal (SGF) Senator George Akume; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Esther Didi Walson-Jack; Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Security Adviser (NSA), MallamNuhu Ribadu; and most of other members of Council, including ministers and Special Adviser.     JUST-IN: Senate confirms Udeh’s nomination as Minister 

    The Senate, on Thursday, confirmed the nomination of Kingsley Udeh (SAN) as minister after his screening at the red chamber in Abuja.

    This followed the request by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, that Udeh be confirmed as minister.

    The President’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.

    Udeh’s nomination followed the resignation of Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who stepped down last month amid controversy over his academic credentials — including questions surrounding a degree allegedly obtained from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

    Nnaji, the only cabinet member from Enugu State, resigned after mounting public pressure and calls for his replacement, leaving the state without representation in the Federal Executive Council.

    After reading the President’s letter on Tuesday, Akpabio referred Udeh’s nomination to the Committee of the Whole for screening and further legislative action.

    At a resumed sitting on Thursday, the Senate suspended its rules to admit the committee and other personalities who accompanied him to the screening. Udeh was led into the chambers by the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado.

    Akpabio said Udeh’s screening did not hold on Wednesday because the Senate didn’t get the required security clearance about him.

    He disclosed that Udeh’s clearance report came in late Wednesday and it indicated that he has no criminal record.

    Anambra in Dire Straits: Obaze Endorses ADC’s Nwosu for Governor

    Former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, diplomat, and policy expert Hon. Oseloka Obaze has thrown his weight behind John Chuma Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, describing him as “Anambra’s best option” for credible leadership and meaningful change.

    Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Obaze said his decision to endorse Nwosu stemmed from the urgent need to rescue Anambra from what he called “dire straits.”

    “Anambra is in dire straits. We need a change in leadership, and we can achieve this on 8th November,” Obaze stated.

    “I’ve lived in Anambra since 2012, I pay taxes here, and I run my consultancy here. I’ve experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly. When things are not good, we should speak up and speak the truth to power.

    “I believe ADC and John Chuma Nwosu represent Anambra’s best option. Look at Enugu and Abia. Our people are not blind. As you are aware, I am not a member of ADC or any other party. But as a voter and stakeholder, I know where my family, my dependents, and I will place our trust and votes.”

    He criticized what he described as hypocrisy among Anambra elites who privately condemn the state administration but publicly endorse it.

    “It is hypocritical to condemn a government in private and endorse it publicly. Those Anambra elites who fear visiting the state due to insecurity are now supporting the continuity of a government that cannot secure their lives and properties. It makes no sense,” he added.

    On the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obaze expressed cautious optimism, saying he hopes the electoral body will deliver a credible election in Anambra despite what he called its poor performance in recent national polls.

    “INEC as an institution has been extremely weak. After the 2023 fiasco, it had ample opportunity to redeem itself but failed at every juncture. Public confidence in INEC is badly eroded,” he said.

    Asked about his assessment of Governor Charles Soludo’s administration, Obaze avoided personal criticism but noted that the government had fallen short of its own standards.

    “His administration has not done well by the standards and expectations he set. I’m sure he knows I did not vote for him in 2021, yet when he won, I congratulated him. History may yet again repeat itself,” he remarked.

    On his relationship with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Obaze said their bond remains “very correct, very cordial, and very seamless.”

    “We speak or communicate at least three times a week. Nigeria needs Peter Obi more than Peter Obi needs Nigeria,” he said.

    Obaze also confirmed that he intends to return to partisan politics, saying, “Yes, I will, because I’m involved-with apologies to Dim Emeka Ojukwu.”

    On 3 November 2025, troops deployed at Kyado, while on mobile patrol along Road Zaki-Biam–Wukari received credible intelligence about ongoing kidnapping activities at a location identified as Quarantine Checkpoint. The kidnappers were reported to be disguised in police uniforms attempting to deceive unsuspecting road users.

    Upon receiving the information, the troops mobilized swiftly to the scene. On sighting the approaching soldiers, the kidnappers fled in disarray into nearby bushes. The troops immediately pursued the fleeing suspects, following their tracks deep into the forest. During the search operations, ten kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.

    Among those rescued was Warrant Officer John Richard, a personnel of 6 Brigade Band, Jalingo, while two other victims are still unaccounted for as search operations continue. The rescued individuals were kept in safe custody and debriefed before being handed over to appropriate authorities for further action.

    The Force Commander, Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their gallantry, swift response, and commitment to protecting innocent citizens. He particularly lauded the tactical Commander for his exemplary leadership and proactive measures in combating criminal activities within the general area.

    General Gara further assured the troops that, their sacrifices and dedication will never go unrewarded, urging them to sustain the tempo, maintain high morale, and continue to uphold the tenets of discipline and professionalism in all operations.

    The People’s Republic of China has condemned any form of interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, declaring its strong support for President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government.

    China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, stated this during a press conference while reacting to the recent threat issued by United States President Donald Trump against Nigeria.

    At a press briefing on Tuesday, Ning was asked to comment on Trump’s warning that the United States would cut off assistance to Nigeria and possibly launch military operations if the alleged killings of Christians continue.

    In her response, Ning said, “As a comprehensive strategic partner of Nigeria, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people to a development path that fits Nigeria’s national realities. We oppose any country’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights. We oppose the wanton threat of sanction and use of force.”

    This is coming after Trump, in a post on his Truth Social account on Saturday, instructed the U.S. War Department to prepare for possible actions in Nigeria.

    He accused the Nigerian government of turning a blind eye to what he described as the “genocide of Christians” across the country.

    Trump warned that the United States would immediately halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria if the attacks on Christians continue.

    He also indicated that America might intervene militarily to eliminate what he called “Islamic terrorists” responsible for the killings.

    “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote.

    He further stated, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

    However, the Tinubu-led administration has dismissed the claim, insisting that such claims are not the realities of Nigeria’s security challenges. Tribune
