The GEANCO Foundation officially launched its groundbreaking Primecare Nursing Practice Program on Saturday, 27 June, 2026, marking a transformative milestone for primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria. The ceremony, attended by prominent government officials, academic leaders, and healthcare executives, kicked off an initiative specifically engineered to empower nurse-led clinics and expand access to quality care for underserved populations.
This new program directly builds upon GEANCO’s established network of six modular family health centers, which currently serve over 9,000 families across the region. The Primecare Nursing Practice Program scales the immense success of these modular clinics. It strategically leverages the unique value of nurse-led clinics that are embedded directly within underserved communities to deliver quality, affordable, and sustainable healthcare.
The Primecare Nursing Practice Program supports Registered Nurses and Midwives who own private clinics. The comprehensive initiative equips these frontline healthcare providers with advanced clinical training and business acumen. The curriculum spans critical healthcare and administrative disciplines, including: Obstetrics & Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Basic Life Support (BLS), Telehealth Technologies, Organizational Management, and Personal Finance for Healthcare Entrepreneurs.
To ensure long-term success and clinical excellence, GEANCO structured the Primecare program into three distinct, high-utility operational sectors. First, the Training sector delivers intensive clinical and administrative coursework led by industry experts. Second, the Clinic Support sector provides direct resources to upgrade facility operations and expand patient services. Finally, the Post-Training Support sector guarantees continuous mentorship and professional development opportunities for all participating healthcare providers.
A major highlight of the launching ceremony was the unveiling of the custom-built Primecare mobile application. Designed to bridge the gap between rural clinics and modern medical expertise, the app provides participating nurses with instant access to educational videos and digital manuals. It features an advanced AI chatbot for real-time clinical decision support and a peer-to-peer networking platform connecting primary healthcare nurses with global medical professionals.
The event featured key endorsements from leading figures in Nigerian healthcare and academia who united to champion the initiative. A representative speaking on behalf of the Enugu State Commissioner of Health applauded GEANCO’s alignment with state goals to decentralize quality healthcare.
Following this, Professor Nebo Ositadimma, the Vice Chancellor of the University on the Niger, performed the official dedication and unveiling of the program, praising its innovative approach to medical education. Professor Kenechukwu Iloh, a Consultant Pediatrician at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, then emphasized the critical need for advanced pediatric and obstetric training at the primary care level. Dr. Winnifred Onodu, the current Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at Maduka University, also threw her weight behind the initiative. Drawing from her experience as the former Focal Person for Safe Motherhood/Maternal and Child Health in Enugu State, she praised the program’s targeted approach to improving maternal and child health outcomes. Concluding the highlights, Dr. Charity Ibeh, a Registered Nurse and CEO of Redeemer Hospital and Maternity, delivered a powerful keynote presentation on healthcare entrepreneurship, detailing exactly how financial literacy elevates nursing standards.
By upgrading the skills of nurse-entrepreneurs and modernizing their clinics, the Primecare Nursing Practice Program directly expands high-quality, affordable healthcare options for thousands of underserved individuals across the region.
