STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE: President Buhari commissions Pinnacle’s Petroleum Offtake Facility, says energy security is cardinal to the administration

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday commissioned the Pinnacle Oil and Gas FZE Terminal in Lekki, Lagos, saying the operations of the facility have eased congestion in the Apapa area, reduced cost and delivery of petroleum product distribution to many parts of our country.

In a video message at the inauguration of the facility, the President congratulated the Chief Executive Officer of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Limited, Peter Mbah, for establishing the massive terminal facility and providing hundreds of jobs to Nigerians.

The President described the investment as a demonstration of the success of his administration’s agenda to transform the nation’s economy, adding that government looks forward to many more investments of this magnitude.

Assuring investors of the continued support of the Federal Government in efforts to elevate the growing prosperity of the country, President Buhari said: ”Provision of energy security is one of the cardinal points of our administration.

”We have recognized that seamless supply and distribution of petroleum products is challenged by infrastructure deficit and complicated by the congestion in the Apapa areas of Lagos since the start of our administration in the year 2015.

”We provided targeted support to the energy industry by providing an enabling environment, including regulatory facilitation, to ensure investment in critical infrastructure.

”I am happy today that Pinnacle Oil and Gas limited leveraged the opportunities and established this massive terminal facility.

”I am happy to also note that further expansion works which are starting will further provide incremental value, especially more employment to our teeming youth population.

”The success of our agenda to transform our country is clearly demonstrated by this massive investment and the obvious contributions it has made to our overall economic well-being.”

President Buhari also reiterated that the Federal Government would continue to encourage and support investors to take advantage of the ongoing reforms in the oil and gas sector as enshrined in the Petroleum industry Act and replicate the feats achieved by Pinnacle Oil and Gas limited.

In his remarks, the CEO of Pinnacle expressed confidence that the terminal with over one billion litre-capacity will fulfil its promise by positively impacting the downstream oil and gas industry.

Mbah noted that the ultra-modern purpose-built petroleum products intake, off take and storage facility will facilitate the efficient receipt of imported petroleum products, improve general energy security in the country and trigger significant savings in costs of products at the pump.

He revealed that the company is already in advanced conversations with the Dangote group regarding collaborations to complement the operations of the nearby Dangote refinery which is soon to come on stream, with a view to forming the nucleus of what will become Africa’s largest energy logistics hub.

The energy chief thanked President Buhari, Federal and State authorities as well as the host community for their unflinching support in making the project, which commenced in 2011, a reality.

Describing the facility as a world class petroleum terminal with the capacity to handle products in two directions both import and export, Mbah explained that:

‘‘Mother Vessels arriving at the facility will have the opportunity to berth at either of our two offshore berths. Either the Conventional Buoy Mooring (CBM), which is in 17m of water depth and can handle vessels of up to 120 million litres, or our Single Point Mooring (SPM), which is in about 23m of water depth and can handle vessel sizes of up to 200 million litres.

”These moorings are connected to our storage facilities by four networked pipelines of 40km total length.

”These pipe networks are designed to empty the vessels in a maximum of two days, a significant improvement on the previous duration which could take up to 30 days.

”Our shore tank farm is currently able to handle up to 300 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as well as diesel or Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and the facility is designed to permit rapid discharge into trucks for evacuation at a rate of up to 20 million litres per day.”

Mbah disclosed that the funding for the facility, which is over $1billion, was through a consortium of Nigerian banks.

  • Pinnacle Presidential Commissioning: Peter Mbah Media Office describes petition by group as ‘fake’, ‘spurious’

Pinnacle Presidential Commissioning: Peter Mbah Media Office describes petition by group as ‘fake’, ‘spurious’

The attention of the Peter Mbah Media Office has been drawn to a purported, ridiculous, mischievous, puerile, fake petition by a certain faceless, self-styled “Enugu State Lawyers for Good Governance” circulated on some social media platforms entreating President Muhammadu Buhari to avoid the commissioning of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd’s groundbreaking petroleum products terminal, slated for tomorrow.

The cowardly so-called lawyers, who from a quick check, are not on the roll call of the Enugu bar, merely rehashed the spurious and long debunked tales of financial malfeasance against Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd and its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who is also the frontrunner in the 2023 governorship race in the state, flying the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Coming less than 24 hours to the well-publicized Presidential Commissioning of the company’s $1 billion offshore subsea petroleum products terminal, the first in Nigeria and West Africa in general, to be performed by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, it is not surprising that the disgruntled sponsors of the calumnious vituperations are having sleepless nights over the towering stature of Dr Peter Mbah as a national and international brand.

The fact that President Buhari, who is the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is performing the inauguration of the monstrous Pinnacle facility, owned by a PDP governorship candidate, ought to have told the sponsors of the hackneyed tales that the gargantuan Pinnacle project is a strategic national asset that supersedes party affiliations and extreme partisanship. It should also be noted that a component of the multifaceted facility is the largest tank farm in Nigeria and West Africa in general with a storage capacity of one billion litres of petroleum products at the maximum that will put a permanent stop to fuel scarcity in the country.

Indeed, if the President and Commander in Chief was ever in doubt about the sources of funding of the monumental project, common sense should have told the fake news peddlers that he would rely more on the troves of classified dossiers on the parties involved; from the national security, intelligence and anti-graft agencies under his control rather than a bunch of desperate ‘lawyers’.

The fake petition did not initially warrant us dissipating our time as members of the public already knew where the hatchet job was coming from. However, to leave it unattended might mislead unsuspecting members of the public, especially their gullible followers who would neither ask questions nor interrogate such lies.

For the avoidance of doubt, evidence and facts are ample that, Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd, Dr. Peter Mbah or any of its agents, subsidiaries or associates have never been indicted, convicted nor even entered what in legal terms are known as “Charge Plea, Plea Bargain or Guilty Plea” which may indicate any guilt or conviction against them as alleged by the fake petition signed by one non-existent name, F.N Ezea.

All previous and present records, including courts’ and securities’ showed, frontally, categorically and unambiguously that Dr. Peter Mbah, Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd, or its affiliates have never been indicted for any offence known to Nigerian laws or even outside Nigeria in the course of carrying on his businesses or even when he served as a public officer in Enugu State Government.

It is quite understandable that members of the opposition and those in perpetual trepidation about the growing influence of Dr. Mbah in terms of changing the narratives and turning things around for the good of the common Nigerians, and Ndi Enugu in particular, can desperately go to any length to manufacture, fabricate, concoct lies, doctor documents, manipulate images using photoshop just to disparage a man because of selfish political interest.

For the umpteenth time, the unassailable truth remains that neither Dr. Peter Mbah, CEO, nor Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd, has ever been indicted by any government panel or court, or currently facing trial for any alleged criminal offence. Needless to add, the two have never been party to any plea bargain in any court of law in Nigeria or anywhere in the world.

The allegation in the said petition that Dr. Peter Mbah, alongside Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd, was charged “for conspiracy to commit advance fee fraud and fraud of #986,154,970.41 from the Petroleum Support Fund of the Federal Government of Nigeria” and that “the said Charge No. ID/117c/2012 is still pending at the Ikeja Division till date” is entirely deceptive, fictitious and a malicious misrepresentation of facts.

The truth is that, indeed, 10 years ago, an allegation was made against Dr. Mbah and Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd which resulted in litigation, in suit number ID/117c/2012, before Hon. Justice Candide-Johnson of the High Court of Lagos State.

However, when confronted with incontrovertible and conclusive evidence, the prosecution deposed to a sworn affidavit where it averred that it was a case of wrongful charge.

In an application entitled “Application for the withdrawal of criminal charge” brought before the court by the EFCC prosecutor, Usani Francis O, Esq, on 26th July, 2012, the EFCC pleaded for “AN ORDER granting leave to the Prosecution to withdraw CHARGE NO. ID/117C/2012 against all the Defendants.”

The EFCC, having established that the Defendants were completely innocent of the charges against them, further supported the application with an affidavit deposed to by its lawyer, Usani Francis O. Esq, with averments which admitted that a mistake was made by the investigation agency in the charge against the four (4) Defendants.

In this affidavit, deposed before the High Court of Lagos State on 27th July, 2012 in respect of Charge No. ID/117C/2012, the deponent stated inter alia: “That the charges preferred against the Defendants in this case were misconstrued by the prosecution and were inadvertently filed against the said Defendants.

“That a review of the prosecution’s case and the evidence available to the prosecution clearly shows that the Defendants did not commit the offences for which they are charged.

“That withdrawing the charges against the Defendants will meet the interest of justice in this case.”

The trial judge, Hon. Justice Candide-Johnson, based on the prosecutor’s averments in the sworn affidavit, duly struck out the case.

Both the deposed affidavit and His Lordship, Justice Candide-Johnson’s judgment in the matter are public documents, the certified true copies which we plead with truth-seeking Ndi Enugu and Nigerians to apply to access, for the sake of justice and equity. Not doing this will give opportunity to politicians on image immolation escapade to fester in their nefarious game of crucifying anyone who expresses their intention to serve their people.

In this instance, it will amount to the crucifixion of a man known all over by those who have had interactions with him, for his purity of mind and fairness in dealings with the other man.

Why a case that is long dead, buried and consigned to the trashcan of history where it rightly belongs, and for which Dr. Peter Mbah and Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd came out clean, with their integrity unsullied, would be excavated in the minds of politicians who are afraid of a fair political contest, should bother all men of goodwill.

Only recently, similar fake news also filtered in from the same bunch of failed elements who manufactured lies and sold to less discerning readers that Dr. Peter Mbah was declared wanted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Unfortunately for them, their fake news could not fly on the face of incontrovertible surplusage of evidence and facts pointing towards the clean slate of the international maritime investor before the international community.

It is on record that Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd is a global conglomerate with business interests spanning across the United States and other countries, with many American expatriates under the employment of the company. Interestingly, Dr. Peter Mbah was in the United States for two weeks just last month where he toured different US cities, interacting with the Enugu diaspora community. Where lies the FBI all this while if the specious, fallacious and delusive claims were to be true?

We remind the media of the ethos of the hallowed journalism profession and urge them to be wary of publishing unsubstantiated sensational allegations without subjecting them to basic scrutiny.

  • PRESS STATEMENT: Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial: Time to Win Peace -Southeast Reps caucus

PRESS STATEMENT: Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial: Time to Win Peace -Southeast Reps caucus

The South East Caucus of the House of Representatives has noted the unanimous decision of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, which discharged the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, of the terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government on the grounds that the trial court lacked jurisdiction due to faulty extradition and extraordinary rendition process.

The Caucus has also taken cognisance of the reaction of the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami, SAN, stating that the Federal Government would explore the legal options before it and communicate to the public, accordingly.

It is a fact that the country is presently contending with terrorism in the North East; terrorism and banditry in the North West; farmers-headers clashes and banditry in the North Central; abductions and armed attacks in the South West; restiveness and attacks by unknown gunmen in the South East, and abductions, cult wars, vandalisation of oil installations and oil theft in the South South region. No part of the country is spared of violent crimes.

The combined effect of all these has plunged the nation into untold socio-economic malaise. For the South East, the enforcement of sit-at-home by faceless gunmen on account of Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration even long after IPOB revoked and washed its hands off it has led to wanton loss of human lives, caused disruption of educational and social activities, and unleashed grave economic consequences on the region.

The reality is that the nation cannot enjoy organic peace so long as any part thereof is troubled. Global experiences and our realities as a nation tell us that heady times like this require not only kinetic options, but also non-kinetic approaches if we must restore and build a peaceful and secure nation where socio-economic and political activities can thrive unhindered.

We believe that it is always better to jaw-jaw than to war-war. This underscores the decision of the South East Caucus of the National Assembly after its extraordinary meeting on September 15, 2021 to advocate political solution to the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu matter. In the communiqué signed by the Leader of the South East Caucus of the National Assembly and former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and other leaders, we underscored the need for constructive interface with relevant stakeholders, the Federal Government and its relevant agencies towards finding a political solution. The decision resonated with other key stakeholders and groups in the South East, including the First Republic minister, Chief Mbazuluike Amechi, who led some Igbo leaders to Aso Rock to solicit the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. We recall that on that occasion, President Muhammadu Buhari maintained that his government was committed to non-interference with judicial process, hence he matter should be allowed to run its full judicial course.

Consequently, we see the decision of the Court of Appeal as a window of opportunity that should be exploited to solve the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu question, find lasting peace and normalcy in the South East region, and stimulate national unity, healing, and solidarity.

Times like this call for statesmanship. This is therefore a special appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to take a fatherly introspection on this issue and toe the path of negotiated solution with guarantees on both sides; and we trust that Mr. President will not allow this veritable opportunity to win peace and write his name in gold pass by.

Press Statement: PDP Refutes Bribery Allegations Over Returned Housing Allowance

The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to misrepresenting reports in a section of the media alluding strange and unfounded motives to the Housing Allowance duly approved and paid to NWC members and staff of the Party

The NWC has noted that this misleading report stemmed from an unfounded publication by a particular media outlet which suggested that the Housing Allowance, an entitlement duly approved and paid to national officials and staff of the Party amounted to bribery.

For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP states in an unequivocal term that no funds were paid into the account of any member of the NWC as bribe for any purpose whatsoever for that matter.

To set the record straight, the Housing Allowance being referred to went through the Due Process of the Party in line with the Conditions of Service and Entitlement of the Staff and Principal Officers of the Party.

If any individual, for any reason decides to return money duly approved and paid, such does not in any way suggest that the money was paid as bribe or indicate that it was illegitimate or unlawfully paid.

A bribe is defined as “money or any other valuable consideration given or promised with a view to corrupting the behavior of a person especially in that person’s performance as a public official…”. This is not the case in the payment of Housing Allowance duly approved for officials and staff of the Party

The PDP therefore urges all members, teeming supporters and the general public to disregard the report and misleading insinuation which are clearly designed to malign the PDP, cause disaffection and distract our Party from our mission to Rescue, Rebuild and Redirect our nation from the misrule of the All Progressives Congress(APC).

  • INEC publishes final list of candidates for Presidential, Senatorial and House of Reps elections [See Full List]

INEC publishes final list of candidates for Presidential, Senatorial and House of Reps elections [See Full List]

PRESS RELEASE: Publication of Final List of Candidates for National Elections

At its regular weekly meeting held today Tuesday 20th September 2022, the Commission approved the final list of candidates for national elections (Presidential, Senatorial and Federal Constituencies) pursuant to section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 8 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election.

The publication of the full names and addresses of all nominated candidates follows the political parties’ conduct of primaries and completion of the nomination exercise. Nigerians may recall that at end of the process, the personal particulars of all nominated candidates were displayed in their constituencies nationwide as provided by section 29(3) of the Electoral Act.

Subsequently, validly nominated candidates had the opportunity to voluntarily withdraw their candidature by notice in writing and personally deliver such notice to the political party that nominated them for the election. Thereafter, political parties substituted such candidates under section 31 of the Electoral Act for which the last day was 15th July 2022 for national elections and 12th August 2022 for State elections as clearly provided in item 6 of the Commission’s Timetable and Schedule of Activities. Thereafter, no withdrawal or substitution of candidates is allowed except in the event of death as provided in section 34(1) of the Electoral Act or pursuant to an order of a Court of competent jurisdiction.

The list published today contains the names of candidates validly nominated for national elections at the close of party primaries and the period earmarked for withdrawal and substitution of candidates. The final list of candidates for State elections (Governorship and State Constituencies) will be published on 4th October 2022 as already indicated on the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election.

We note the fact that not all the political parties conducted primaries in all the constituencies, submitted the particulars of candidates that emerged from valid primaries or substituted their candidates after fresh primaries within 14 days as provided in section 33 of the Electoral Act. This has led to numerous litigations, some of which are ongoing. Where the Commission was served with Court orders by aggrieved aspirants or candidates before the publication of this list, these have been indicated under the remark column.

In summary, all the 18 political parties have fielded candidates and their running mates for the Presidential election. For legislative elections, 1,101 candidates are vying for 109 Senatorial seats and 3,122 candidates for Federal Constituencies i.e. House of Representatives seats, making a total of 4,223 candidates contesting for 469 legislative positions. In terms of gender distribution, 3,875 candidates are male, made up of 35 for Presidential and Vice Presidential, 1,008 for Senate and 2,832 for House of Representatives. Similarly, 381 females comprising 1 for Presidential, 92 for Senate, and 288 for House of Representatives are contesting. There are also 11 Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the race.

The list for specific constituencies is published in each State where they are located while the comprehensive nationwide list has been uploaded to the Commission’s website.

We appeal to all political parties to channel any observations on the list of candidates to the Commission and such must be signed by the National Chairman and Secretary of the political party and supported with an affidavit as provided in section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2022.

  • PRESS RELEASE: Further Update on the Cleaning up of the Voters’ Register

PRESS RELEASE: Further Update on the Cleaning up of the Voters’ Register

The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a report of a press conference addressed by the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on the Register of Voters for the 2023 general election. The Commission recognizes and respects the right of citizens, either as individuals and groups, to demand explanation from public agencies, including INEC, and to hold them accountable.

However, it is always important that caution is exercised so that such interventions do not unwittingly sow doubts in the public mind, thereby diminishing public confidence and trust in the electoral process.

Nigerians would recall that on 31st July 2022, the Commission suspended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to commence supplemental activities that will culminate in the integration of new registrants into the final Register of Voters for the 2023 General Election.

It is important to reiterate that no new registrant has yet been added to the Register of Voters for the 2023 General Election or will be included until these supplemental activities have been completed in line with the law.

For the avoidance of doubt, we restate the main components of these activities. First, the Commission is conducting a comprehensive Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) cleanup of the registration data by scrutinising every record. Based on the Electoral Act 2022, any record that does not meet all the criteria for inclusion as stipulated in Section 10, including the appearance in person by the registrant at the registration venue with proof of identity, age and nationality and our business rules requirements of adequate number of fingerprints and clear pictures will be invalidated.

Further, in line with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, after the ABIS and clean up, the Commission shall appoint a period of seven days during which the register will be published for scrutiny by the public for objections and complaints.

Finally, it is only after the cleanup and claims and objections have been completed that the final register will be published.

The Commission will continue to provide the public with updates on the progress of these processes, as we did through our Press Release of 12 September 2022. The ABIS for the period of registration between 15th January and 31st July is being concluded presently, and the outcome in terms of multiple and ineligible records will be made public. For instance, in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, where the Commission allegedly registered ineligible persons, 3.316 ineligible registrants have so far been invalidated and the process is still ongoing.

We appeal to the public to await the Commission’s display of the register for claims and objections to raise any concerns that they may have about the registration. We reiterate that our ABIS is robust and will detect practically all the ineligible records for removal.

Nigerians should be reassured of the Commission’s commitment to the credibility of the electoral process in Nigeria. We appeal for your support while we painstakingly deal with the cleanup of the register and other processes that will guarantee that the general election in 2023 is free, fair, credible and inclusive.

  • PRESS RELEASE: Concerned People Of Enugu commends Gov. Ugwuanyi for his dexterity in making Enugu peaceful

At all times in every society, the option for peace has never been debated. As the development and growth of such society is largely dependent on its peaceful atmosphere.

Enugu wouldn’t have been what it is today if it is not peaceful.

All thanks to the peace-loving governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

For sometime now, Nigeria has been engulfed with numerous conflicts and crisis relating to banditry, kidnapping, cultism, etc. and others that are politically motivated. These situations in one way or the other have claimed many lives and properties. Investment opportunities are affected too. Heartbreaking as it is, lots of kidnapped victims are still under captive.

In Enugu State, since the coming of Ugwuanyi as the governor, Enugu is now more peaceful than it used to be.

No wonder Enugu was ranked the Most Peaceful State in Nigeria. A great feat that was achieved with much work and not mere words. An outstanding result of His Excellency’s investment and commitment to the security sector.

Interestingly, Governor Ugwuanyi made sure that the party primaries of all political parties in the state were peaceful without any record of casualty or bloodshed.

We commend Gov. Ugwuanyi for being steadfast in making Enugu a peaceful state to the admiration of all.

On the same vein, we ask Governor Ugwuanyi to continue to do his best in sustaining the peace and harmony in the State both during and after 2023 election.

    God bless Governor Ugwuanyi

    God bless Enugu State .

  • Quality Education for All – Frank Nweke Jr on World Literacy Day

Quality Education for All – Frank Nweke Jr on World Literacy Day

    Ndi Enugu,

With the burgeoning increase in the number of out of school children in Enugu, this World Literacy Day rings an alarm for me.

Beyond the individual loss of good education, the impact of a low literacy level and poor access to education to the State is even more alarming.

We are inadvertently perpetrating a cycle of disadvantage, inequality and poverty through generations. Social cohesion and economic productivity are greatly affected. The inability to understand and apply information cascades down to challenges with health management, maintaining law and order and protecting human rights.

Illiteracy in all its forms poses a complex problem that requires concerted efforts to solve, beyond the rhetoric of distributing school supplies to a select few, posing with them for photo ops and paying hefty sums for wide media dissemination in an election year. Education is too essential to human life to be a mere political gimmick.

We must act with strategic vision and urgency knowing that the implication of doing anything less than aggressively driving literacy skills in our children will negatively impact our future in the long run.

As one with the goal to lead our State back to sanity and greatness, reducing the number of out of school children and improving the quality of our education is a priority for  me.

With the dire challenges we face with insecurity, depleted public resources, endemic poverty and the effects of Covid19, my plan is to work with educators, parents and other key stakeholders to go out of the norm in formulating policies and implement strategies needed to reduce the proportion of children out of school by at least 20 percent annually.

The first step will be to appoint competent and ethical leadership for the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and begin to access UBEC counterpart funding. The right people in these core areas will ensure that we implement the right policies and have regulatory oversight over the educational system in the State and spend available funds strategically and transparently, making the reports publicly accessible via real-time dashboards.

We will institute compulsory basic education for all children and implement a curriculum that drives Values, History, Igbo language, STEAM and Digital Literacy.

The training, empowerment and recognition of teachers will be prioritized to foster commitment and dedication to the critical responsibility of shaping the minds that will lead our future.

We will also recognize and partner with non-governmental and private organisations with interests and investments in the education sector, ensuring a robust approach to meeting our goals.

I am also intrigued by the theme of this year’s World Literacy Day which is Transforming Learning Spaces. While this is essential for the contained spaces of our schools and other public learning facilities, I am also interested in the macro environmental conditions that demand we address the challenges of security and unsafe slums in the State.

As we deploy solutions to the education sector, we will not be ignorant of the other factors that intertwine with our drive for literacy. Ensuring security and transforming slums to livable communities will also be addressed concurrently. I look forward to unveiling my manifesto which shows a detailed plan for providing quality education for all, and ensuring no child gets left behind.

Our children deserve to have the opportunities to enjoy a healthy childhood and great education. It is their fundamental right.

I have no doubt that we can anticipate a future where improving literacy is not a bargain and we will create an environment that is safe for all to learn both formally and informally.

Enugu at 31: A Statement by Frank Nweke Jr on the 31st anniversary of the creation of Enugu State

    Ndi Enugu, ndi banyi,

Today, we mark the 31st anniversary of the creation of Enugu State. The current situation we find ourselves in may not feel celebratory and in fact, it is a shame to our history and to who we are as a people.

Enugu is fast losing its pre-eminence as the capital of the Eastern region due to poor leadership and misgovernance. We don’t have potable water. Our streets are almost overrun by waste. Our children are home because our primary school teachers are on strike. Pensions and gratuities are not guaranteed after decades of service.

Our people live in fear because we have a government that cannot protect us and even benefit from the insecurity.

31% of our population are unemployed and 58% of our brothers and sisters live below the poverty level.

Enugu is crippling under debt with a 72% increase in loans taken in local or foreign currency in the past few years. All because of a government that only cares about their pocket.

Still, we remain grateful to God for life and more importantly, for hope. In the face of these dire circumstances, I dare say that we do have things to celebrate and be proud of. We have the advantage of the scenic landscapes and rolling hills that God has blessed us with. We are blessed with arable lands for both food and cash crops. We have the advantage of a teeming young population brimming with talent and the potential to make Enugu a thriving and productive economy. We have a growing technology community and an abundance of creative energy.

These great potentials have been stunted by suboptimal political leadership, corruption and ineptitude. It is daunting but I choose to fix my gaze on the future and prepare to create the Enugu that will work for every resident.

Ndi banyi, we must ask ourselves, what do we want Enugu to look like when we celebrate our 32nd or 33rd anniversary?

I believe that we have a great opportunity to build a stable and prosperous state where every citizen is economically empowered, has access to potable water, excellent healthcare and quality education; a place where every life is secure and treated with respect and dignity.

As we prepare for a change in government in 2023, my dream is to lead a government that shuns mediocrity and sycophancy and instead, lead with vision and integrity, providing leadership that is selfless and people-centered. This is why I am running for governor.

I will encourage and work with bright and enterprising leaders in Enugu who will help to transform our local government areas and communities.

I will lead a government that prioritizes the lives of our people, supports our security agencies and drives economic transformation and human development.

I will lead a government that understands that water is life. There is no reason why there shouldn’t be pipe borne water in Enugu. The sources have not changed from where they used to be in the 1920s. This is a top priority for my team and I.

I will lead a government that ensures that all children receive Compulsory Basic Education; and young people have access to quality Technical Vocational Education and Training.

I will lead a government that creates tech hubs and infrastructure, facilitating high-tech business growth especially among the young people. I will lead a government that restores Enugu as the creative hub of the country.

Mine will be a government without tainted records that has the pedigree to attract investors and funding to the State, especially in the face of a crippling debt profile.

These are investors and experts who will work with us to ensure that potable water is made available to all citizens, to ensure that we clean up our city and turn our waste to opportunities for wealth; investors who will make jobs available through investment in critical sectors such as agriculture, technology, waste management, healthcare and new energy systems to power our industry.

Ndi banyi, Enugu looks nothing like what we have the potential to be. But, you have the power to change that by putting the right government in power come this next election.

I have made a decision to stand with the people and take back Enugu. Will you join me?

PRESS RELEASE: Clarification on Electronic Transmission of Election Result

“The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) attention has been drawn to a misunderstanding arising from a recent short interview granted to a national newspaper on the procedure for result management during elections. Some have interpreted the explanation on result management procedure to mean that the Commission has jettisoned the electronic transmission of result and reverted to the manual process. This is not correct.

“For clarity, the procedure for result transmission remains the same as in recent Governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States. There will be no change in all future elections, including the 2023 General Election.

“We wish to reassure Nigerians that the electronic transmission of result has come to stay. It adds to the credibility and transparency of the process when citizens follow polling unit level results on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal on real-time on Election Day. There will be no change or deviation in subsequent elections.

“The entire gamut of result management is provided for in Sections 60, 62 and 64 of the Electoral Act 2022. In line with the provision of the law, the Commission, in April this year, released a detailed clarification of the procedure for transmission, collation and declaration of result which was shared with all stakeholders and uploaded to our website.

“We appeal to all Nigerians to avail themselves of the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Commission’s detailed explanation of the procedure and not reach a conclusion on the basis of media headlines.”
