1. In keeping with the established rules on compensation and the ideals of transparency of the Renewed Hope administration of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency Sen Engr Nweze David Umahi CON has constituted a commitee to review the report on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment in respect of compensation for section 1, Lagos- Calabar Coastal Highway project. The committee made up of 19 members is required to interface with stakeholders and property owners that will be affected by the project with a view to recommending those who are entitled to receive compensation from Federal Government as required by law. The Honourable Minister directed that the commitee should work strictly with the terms of reference, which is to verify and authenticate the list of those to be compensated and submit a report within 10 days effective 18th April 2024. He said, “We are setting up a review committee to look at the work done by the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA,) and the works to be reviewed by this committee is very simple, and it’s just to interact with the property owners that are going to be affected, and then in their presence, in the presence of the committee and the ESIA Consultant and the contractor, look at the compensation as enumerated to be paid, and where possible, you visit the site. We are using the federal rates to do our enumeration. I know very well that there is nobody that is ever enumerated that is ever satisfied with how much is to be paid, but we are bound by the law, and so we are using federal rates.”

2. The Honourable Minister promised to ensure a seemless and timely payment of compensation on the Lagos- Calabar Coastal Highway project but warned that only those legally entitled to compensation would be shortlisted. He said, “The moment the property owner signs, and then we have a form that we give to them to fill, and indicate the bank account; the moment that is done, within 72 hours, we authorize payment. The contractor is going to be paying directly to all those who are affected, and this we are committed to doing. This verification will start Wednesday in Lagos, and of course, we have to make it very clear that 250 meters legally belong to the Federal Government. So if you have a title within these 250 meters and it’s not a title from Federal Government, then it is encumbrance, and only Mr. President can give a waiver if he feels so for the person to be paid.”

3. The meeting which was held via zoom in the Honourable Minister’s conference hall Mabushi-Abuja with the affected property owners and other stakeholders, was in furtherance of the resolutions earlier reached in the stakeholders engagement meeting held by the Honourable Minister of Works in Lagos on 11th April 2024 whereof opinions were ventilated from different groups of stakeholders and decisions were reached on the need for a review of the report on the enumeration by the Consultant on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of the affected areas. The committee members were constituted to reflect the different groups of stakeholders, including Lagos State Government, affected Local Government Areas Traditional Rulers, estate developers and residents, as well as professional bodies.

Communique Issued at the end of the 98th Meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Today, Thursday, April 18,2024.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great Party, at its 98th meeting today, Thursday, April 18, 2024, thoroughly assessed the State of affairs of the Nation and the Party and resolved asfollows:

1. NEC commends all the Organs of the Party for their collective resilience, steadfastness and commitment towards the unity, stability and sustenance of our great Party despite dautingchallenges.

2. NEC also commends members of the PDP, with particular reference to the youths and women for their courage in resisting the antics of the divisive and anti-people All Progressives Congress (APC), especially, its desperation to emasculate the opposition and foist a one-Party State on ournation.

3. NEC expresses concern over the ill-implemented policies of the insensitive APC administration, leading to Worsening insecurity, harrowing economic hardship, soaring unemployment rate, high cost of food and other necessities of life with pervading misery and despondency across the country.

4. NEC expresses serious apprehensions over the spate of acts of terrorism and violence including the escalated cases of mindless killings, mass abduction of innocent Nigerians and marauding of communities in various parts of the country,

5. NEC condemns the insensitivity, nonchalance, incompetence and arrogance in failure of the APC administration which continues to conduct itself in a manner that shows that it has no lota of interest or commitment towards the wellbeing of Nigerians.

6. NEC also condemns the creeping totalitarianism and tendencies towards a One-Party State which is inimical to the peace, stability and corporate existence of our nation as well as the development of Democracy and good governance in thecountry.

7. NEC, after due consideration demands that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should urgently convene a special National Security Council meeting to proffer a holistic solution and measures to curb the disturbing insecurity with its attendant negative consequences on our national life.

8. NEC also demands that President Tinubu should immediately rejig his Economic Team to bring in persons of proven integrity and competence without bias and vested interest to assist in repositioning theeconomy.

9. NEC further demands that the Federal Government should review all policies and programmes which are stifling the economy with suffocating effect on the lives of citizens; including the increase in price of fuel without cushioning measures, hike in electricity tariff, increased taxation and implementation of adverse fiscal policies

10. NEC charges all Organs, leaders, critical stakeholders and indeed all members of the PDP to close ranks, put aside every personal or group interests and work together in the overall effort to reposition and return the PDP to power at the center in the interest of the Nigerian people.

11. Consequently, NEC received and approved the Timetable for Party Congresses across thecountry.

12. NEC also approved the Reconstitution of the Party Disciplinary and Reconciliation Committees to further ensure the stability of the Party.

13. Similarly, NEC approved the extension of the life of the Party Constitution Amendment Committee to allow it to receive new amendment proposals for inclusion in its deliberation and final report for consideration by NEC.

14. NEC commended the efforts of the National Working Committee in its effort towards rebranding the Party including the new look PDP Logo which is widely accepted by Party members and Nigerians ingeneral.

15. NEC charges all Party members to continue to work together for the success of the PDP for the benefit of Nigerians and sustenance of Democracy in ourcountry.

The Concerned People of Enugu State, a non-partisan and grassroots oriented civil society organisation in Enugu State, through their Chairman/Convener, Mr. Peter Ezih, has declared that Dr. Peter Mbah’s government will succeed through constant positive engagement with the grassroots and regular citizens of Enugu state.

This was their resolution during their Executive meeting on Monday 15th April 2024, at Grand Signature Hotel, Enugu.

The organisation commended His Excellency Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor, Enugu State, on the wonderful job he has done so far in Enugu State and also urged him not to relent as he works to fulfill all that he promised good-governance-hungry people of Enugu in his manifesto during the 2023 governorship elections campaigns.

The organisation have also noticed with deep concern, the spate of unprofitable, malicious and destructive criticism which some self serving politicians and their foot soldiers have constantly unleashed at the government, not minding how spurious, injurious and demoralising those may be to the development and social well-being of the state.

At the same time, the Chairman urged the Governor’s praise singers to whittle down their political trumpets and not hype the governor to a frenzy of no return, making the governor develope a false sense of achievement that will deprive Ndi-Enugu of the God ordained dividends of democracy due them through this administration.

He went on to inform that the best way to get the government to be alive to its responsibility is only through constructive engagement, and not through self serving wicked propaganda or undeserved praise singing.

Furthermore, according to him, the association having dispassionately and critically examined activities of His Excellency’s commissioners, head of ministries and agencies over the past nine to ten months, hereby wish to bring to the notice of His Excellency, the noticed negligence, laxity and in some cases, outright incompetence exhibited by some of the said commissioners and heads of ministries and agencies in the exercise of their assigned duties.

We urge His Excellency to urgently caution and call them to order, as this, otherwise, may prove to be detrimental to his vision of moving Enugu from a $4.4B economy to a $30B economy.

The association wishes the governor and all the state’s functionaries well in their bid to elevate Enugu to an enviable height in committee of states in Nigeria.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide at its plenary presided over by the President General, Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, MFR; OFR; CFR; FNICE; FNSE; FNIST; KSG (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo) has on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 resolved to honour the former Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, CON (Okwadike Igbo Ukwu) with a post-humus award of the Hero of Igboland.

Presenting the proposal to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyanwu recalled the various roles played by Okwadike in promoting the cause of not only the Igbo but Nigeria at large. The Igbo Leader cited the commitment of Okwadike in his assignment as the Ohanaeze representative in the court matters related to the incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.  In addition, Ezeife was the Chairman, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Elders Council for Abuja and the Northern Nigeria as well as a Member of the Presidential Advisory Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.The Igbo Leader concluded that Okwadike stood with the Igbo when it mattered most and that he never equivocated on issues affecting the Igbo. He therefore directed all the organs and structures of Ohanaeze nNdigbo to participate fully at the various stages of the burial and funeral ceremony for our great son, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife.

Other resolutions reached by the NEC at the plenary include the establishment of some vital committees. They include:
(a). Committee on Sports; this aims at reviving sports competition amongst the Ohanaeze Ndigbo states.

(b). Committee on Relief Agency; this aims at harnessing the enormous Igbo resources for the benefit of the vulnerable and the less privileged in Igboland.

(c). Committee on Agriculture; Ohanaeze frowns at the inability of Nigerians to take advantage of the vast fertile and arable land at our disposal.

(d). Committee on Health Care; Ohanaeze is worried at the rate of emigration of the first rate Igbo physicians to foreign countries. They also expressed concern that the alternative or orthodox medicine is not fully explored in Nigeria. The Committee on Health Care will ultimately curtail the foreign medical tourism that has become the norm in Nigeria.

(e). Committee on Interface with the Igbo Market Unions; the Igbo traders should be mainstreamed into the Ohanaeze activities. Ohanaeze will interface with the Igbo traders all over the country with a view to identifying their needs as well as carrying them along in the Ohanaeze programmes.

The plenary also accorded a minute silence to our illustrious son, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the former governor of Old Abia State whose death occurred most recently.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has commended the leaders of South East for their concerted efforts in harnessing their collective experience, knowledge and relationships to advance developmental ideals, peace building and robust democratic governance in South East. The President made this commendation during the burial ceremony of Late Deaconess (Mrs) Theresa Osinachi Omoke JP, the mother of his Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, South East, Barr. (Mrs) Chioma Nweze, CEHF.

2. The President, represented by the Honourable Minister of Works, His Excellency Sen Engr Nweze David Umahi. FNSE FNATE, GGCEHF, CON, particularly thanked the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, GGCEHF for raising the bar in the peace and security of the state and for deepening the cause of development of the State and all who live in it. He said, “You have taken every challenge of Ebonyi State as the challenge of the people, and you have raised the bar in advancing the People’s Charter of Needs of Ebonyi State. The President is very excited about your performances.” In his condolence message to the family of the deceased, the President described the late mother of his SSA on Community Engagement as a woman with exemplary virtues who made immeasurable contributions to the advancement of the cause of humanity, and enjoined her and the entire Omoke family to take solace in the accomplishments of her age. “I would like to condole with you and the entire Omoke family on the death of your beloved mother, an icon and the matriarch of your family who sadly passed away on 18th of December, 2023 at the age of 75”.

3. The Honourable Minister of Works used the opportunity to clear the air on misrepresentations on media platforms over the government that handled the much commended rehabilitation of Third Mainland Bridge Lagos, which is now opened for road users. “The Third Mainland Bridge was not done by Lagos State Government. No, it was done by the Federal Government as directed by President Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. Everything about the funding was entirely done by Mr. President through his Minister of Works.” He also used the opportunity to thank the leaders and people of South East for their support to the Renewed Hope administration of Mr. President. He said, “I want to send a message of thanks from Mr. President to the people of South East, for their support; I want to thank the Governors and appreciate them for their support, which is beyond party lines.” He revealed, “In a very short moment, leaders of South East will come together to openly, publicly, and heartily appreciate Mr. President, and let Nigerians and the world know that we stand with the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President.

4. In his address during the event, the Governor of Ebonyi State thanked Mr. President for his fatherly disposition to all the States of the federation and his inclusive governance, which has renewed the hope of Nigerians in actualizing positive trajectories in the political and socio- economic history of the nation. He offered his deep condolences to the deceased family and his compassions to the cause of the family and community who would deeply miss her love and charity. While praying for the repose of her soul, he expressed commitment towards immortalizing the good name she bequeathed. He said, “As government, we must do a very significant thing today. The State Government will build a befitting pavilion in this field, and that pavilion will be named after the late mother of Barr. (Mrs) Chioma Nweze. Text of a Press Conference Addressed by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on Friday, 5th April, 2024 at the Abuja Building, Government House, Enugu

Gentlemen of the Press,

In the wee hours of today, at about 2.00 am, hoodlums in astonishing large numbers invaded the site of the ongoing installation of new ductile water pipes near the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu, where they unleashed havoc and destruction on machines and other equipment. The vandals were however successfully repelled by security operatives deployed to the site before reinforcement came from the Ogui Police Station.

This unfortunate development is coming barely two weeks after the Enugu State Government issued a notice of final warning against the vandallizaton of water facilities in the state.

Sadly, such acts of sponsored and intentional wanton destruction of government water facilities and other critical infrastructure by some unpatriotic elements in the state appear to have intensified.

The incessant attacks on public infrastructure such as water galleries, electrical fittings on solar lights attached to water facilities, damage of both high pressure and distribution pipes by hoodlums, have delayed the reticulation of water to the good people and residents of the state and in some cases denied innocent citizens access to potable water with a huge cost on the government for replacement. Recently, there have also been cases of the destruction of roadside kerbs on newly reconstructed roads by reckless truck drivers,

The government hereby states that such acts of vandalism will henceforthv be treated not only as economic sabotage but also as acts of terrorism for which the offenders will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

For the avoidance of doubt, the actions of these saboteurs constitute various serious offences under the Criminal Code Cap 30 Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria 2004. These offences include stealing, malicious damage, amongst others which are punishable by various terms of imprisonment and fine. The State Government will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the Law on the perpetrators of these acts.

Government hereby restates its firm resolve to protect all public facilities by reinforcing security surveillance around these facilities, and arresting and prosecuting anybody or group of individuals caught in these acts of sabotage.

Government appeals to members of the public to take ownership of the facilities by protecting them, and reporting the nefarious activities of the vandals and economic saboteurs, using any of our communication channels to send your reports for immediate response.

In the light of all these cases of vandalism, the Enugu State Government is constituting a Taskforce on surveillance and protection of public assets in Enugu State.

The Committee will be led by officers and men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and supported by other security agencies. They are to commence their assignment immediately

Supporting products made in Nigeria goes beyond just aiming for economic independence; it’s about expressing our national identity and showcasing the exceptional quality of goods made within our country. This effort covers various sectors, highlighting the need for Nigerian companies to reach global standards and innovate.

As global markets become more connected, the success of Nigerian products depends on a careful strategy that emphasizes quality, branding, and effective market entry. Nigerian products, known for their originality and cultural depth, have a special place in both the local and global marketplace.

The Enugu International Trade Fair is a crucial stage for displaying these products, enabling businesses to connect with potential partners around the world, and thus promoting trade and diversifying the economy.

With its wealth of agricultural and mineral resources, Enugu State is in a prime position to lead the push for products made in Nigeria. This effort is supported by Presidential Executive Order Number 5 and the goals of my Ministry to use innovation, science, and technology as the main drivers of economic change. We are dedicated to improving the quality and appeal of locally made products, demonstrated by our backing of engineering developments and research efforts.

Organizations such as the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), and the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) play a vital role in boosting our local production.

Our recent Technology and Innovation EXPO showed significant strides in these areas, showcasing Nigeria’s advancements and potential for more innovation and teamwork.

To conclude, I praise the Enugu Chamber of Commerce for choosing such a relevant theme for this year’s fair. I encourage everyone here to take full advantage of this event to show off the best of Made-in-Nigeria products, form new partnerships, and help our nation’s economic progress.

I join the global community of Christians, especially Christians in Nigeria, in celebrating Easter – the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This great occasion brings to an end the Christian Lenten season of fasting, prayers, and almsgiving and ushers us into the season of glory and victory over death.

For us in Nigeria, this very significant celebration holds vital promises of victory over our present myriads of challenges and travails, if we do not despair.

Our dear nation has continued to stagger under the heavy weight of high insecurity, soaring hunger and poverty, ballooning debts, galloping inflation, and mindless corruption that have pervaded every part of our national life.

Just as Our Lord Jesus, who made very painful sacrifices for the salvation of the world, which today we celebrate His glorious resurrection, we all must continue to labour, in unity, for the good of our nation, knowing that our labours will not be in vain.

Verification Exercise for Local Government and Primary School Pensioners

In light of the ongoing verification exercise for pensioners of local government and primary school teachers in the state, we are pleased to announce that the verification team will be embarking on visits to each senatorial zone.

These visits aim to conduct biometric capturing and rectify any issues encountered by individual pensioners throughout the process.

Enugu North Senatorial Zone:

• Venue: Nsukka Local Government Headquarters

• Dates: April 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th, 2024.

Enugu West Senatorial Zone:

• Venue: Udi Local Government Headquarters

• Dates: April 10th, 11th, 12th, 15th, and 16th, 2024.

Enugu East Senatorial Zone:

• Venue: Enugu South Local Government Headquarters

• Dates: April 17th, 18th, 19th, 22nd, and 23rd, 2024.
