Upon confirmation, the new FCSC leadership is expected to commence work with effect from November 30, 2023, following the expiration of the tenure of the current Federal Civil Service Commission Chairman and membership on November 29, 2023.

The President anticipates that the new FCSC leadership will competently facilitate the transformation, reorientation, and digitization of the Federal Bureaucracy to enable, and not stifle, growth and enhanced private sector participation in the development of the Nigerian economy, in full adherence to the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A MEETING OF THE SOUTHERN AND MIDDLE BELT LEADERS’ FORUM (SMBLF) HELD IN ABUJA, ON THURSDAY, 26TH OCTOBER, 2023

Leaders and Elders of the South East, South West, South-South, and Middle Belt Regions represented by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Afenifere, Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), and the Middle Belt Forum, respectively, held a crucial meeting in Abuja on Thursday, 26th October 2023.

2. The meeting was chaired by the Leader, Chief Dr. E. K. Clark, OFR, CON, and had in attendance several national leaders including Chief Ayo Adebanjo – Leader, Afenifere, Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, MFR, OFR, CFR, President-General, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr. Pogu Bitrus – President, Middle Belt Forum, Chief Sen. 3. The meeting discussed exhaustively current developments in the country, and arrived at the following conclusions:

i. That the Federal Government should, as a matter of urgency, and priority, work towards the Restructuring of the country and enthrone True Federalism as was originally entrenched in the 1960 and 1963 constitutions;

ii. That, without restructuring, the future of Nigeria and democracy remain bleak and must, therefore, be carried out immediately;

iii. Expresses great concern and total rejection of the trend where certain sections of the country, are continually marginalized in the number of states, local governments, and even appointments into the Federal Executive Council.

iv. Particularly requests that the South-East be appropriately represented on the Federal Executive Council, similar to other Geo-Political Zones.

v. Insists that Nigeria must always remain a country where all citizens and sections enjoy a full sense of belonging and equality;

4. The 2023 Presidential Election:

i. The Meeting extensively discussed the outcome of the 2023 General Elections;

ii. Commends the political class, especially the leading Presidential candidates in the 2023 Presidential Election for their recourse to constitutional means in redressing their grievances;

iii. Notes the Supreme Court judgment on the 2023 Presidential Election delivered today, Thursday, 26th October 2023, which effectively brings to an end the legal processes on the conduct and outcome of the Presidential Election, held on 25th February 2023. We will in the coming days, make a substantial pronouncement on the judgment;

5. National Concerns:

i. SMBLF urges that efforts be redoubled to assuage the daily depreciating living standard of Nigerians;

ii. Calls on the Federal Government to urgently salvage the Naira, which continues to depreciate daily;

iii. Advices that the Federal Government should take urgent steps to release Nnamdi Kanu since a court of competent jurisdiction has ordered so. We believe that doing so will promote peace and security in the South East;

iv. That the Federal Capital Territory remains the national patrimony of all Nigerians; thus, condemns the present efforts by some to arrogate exclusiveness. This must be rejected and the promoters of such views should be called to order;

v. Insists that President Tinubu takes an urgent look at the 2014 National Conference Report, concluded by 494 of the Country’s leaders, as well as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Report on True Federalism

vi. The Meeting resolved to set up a Strategic Committee on Restructuring and expressed readiness to interface with the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and all other stakeholders, on the enunciated issues.

6. The Meeting congratulated Chief E. K. Clark on his 96th Birthday, which was on 25th May 2023, and on the successful launch of his autobiography “Brutally Frank”, held on 17th August 2023.

7. The meeting was held in an atmosphere of cordiality and general unanimity.

…Says Apex Court Has Failed Nigerians

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is appalled by the judgment of the Supreme Court in the petition filed by the PDP and Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar against the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winners of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP and indeed majority of Nigerians are alarmed, disappointed and gravely concerned with the reasoning of the Supreme Court which the PDP believes is against the express provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2022, the Guideline and Regulation issued by INEC under which the election was conducted.

The PDP asserts that it is indeed a sad commentary for our democracy that the Supreme Court failed to uphold the provisions of the law. Instead, it trashed the expectation of majority of Nigerians who looked up to it as a Temple of Impartiality to deliver substantial justice in the matter having regards to the laws and facts of the case.

Nigerians earnestly expected the Supreme Court to uphold and defend the clear provisions of the 1999 Constitution in terms of qualification and minimum requirement for a winner to be declared in a Presidential election in Nigeria especially with regards to the required statutory 25% of votes in the FCT as well as issues of violation of electoral Rules and Guidelines, brazen manipulations and alterations of election results by the APC.

Nigerians are still at a loss as to how the Supreme Court condoned the serious issues of forgery, falsehood and perjury on the altar of technicalities.

The general gloom, melancholy and sense of despondency across the country upon the delivery of the judgment is an ominous sign of eerie situation which portend grave consequences because of the disappointment embedded in the judgment.

This judgment by the Supreme Court has evidently shaken the confidence of Nigerians in the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court as the last hope of the common man.

The PDP remains undeterred and charges Nigerians not to be discouraged or allow the judgment to detract from their collective quest for the entrenchment of a credible electoral system that can guarantee a government that truly derive its legitimacy from the people.

The Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, comprising former Speakers, Principal Officers, etc in a plenary resolved to congratulate His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah for his victory at the polls on March 18, 2023; his victory at the Enugu State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal on September 21, 2023; amongst others.

Members reviewed the governance model of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State.

In our assessment, we found him a visionary. He is a thoughtful, reflective and an imaginative leader. The members agreed that the the policies and programmes that are espoused by the Enugu State government are disruptive, innovative and endearing.

It is disheartening that our neighbours, Ebonyi and Anambra States have left Enugu State behind on road infrastructure.

A major consolation is that the Governor has recently launched a robust Enugu State road construction and rehabilitation revolution; the first of its kind in Enugu State. It is hoped that before the end of the year, 2023, the people of Enugu State will heave a sigh of relief.

Furthermore, Mbah’s vision intends to leverage on the huge horizontal interjurisdictional externalities as a result of the contiguity of Awka Capital Territory, Anambra State with Ugwuoba, a boundary community in Enugu State. Unfortunately, the previous administrations in Enugu State could not tap into this amazing opportunity; a low hanging fruit for that matter.

Members enthused that Governor Peter Mbah deserves the support of the good people of Enugu for optimal achievement.

A meeting of a select leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Northern Zone was held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at the residence of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Engr.  Dr.  Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu; CFR (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo).

The President General gave a progress report on the following activities;

1. (a). Global Restructuring of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide: The Igbo Leader explained that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has been restructured into three zones for Nigeria and six zones for the Diaspora chapters. With the new structure, the 19 states and Abuja will have their headquarters in Abuja; the South West, with the headquarters in Lagos; and the East with the headquarters at Enugu. Chief Iwuanyanwu added that the Ohanaeze Diaspora structure has the continent of Europe with the headquarters in London; others include the continent of North America and Canada with headquarters in Washington, DC; the continent of South America and the Caribbean with headquarters in Brazil; the continent of Asia with headquarters in China; continent of Africa with Headquarters in South Africa; continent of Australia and New Zealand and all the surrounding Islands with headquarters in Australia.

(b) Building of International Market in Igboland: With the completion of the project, all the Igbo traders will be expected to own a market store in Igboland. This will create job opportunities, enhance goods and services and ultimately increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the country.

(c) As a corollary to the above, the Igbo Leader will hold a Summit of Igbo Traders Associations in Nigeria and some parts of Africa. The meeting is scheduled to hold in Jan. 2024.

Other decisions reached in the meeting include;

(2) A new date for the Ohanaeze Northern Convention which will hold on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 of November 2023.

(3) The President General called for the harmonization of the officers of the various factions of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the Abuja in order to produce united peaceful executive.

(4) The meeting expressed very deep concern over the insecurity in the South East and felt sad over the continued incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The President General was therefore mandated to immediately seek appointment for leaders to meet with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR in respect of the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, amongst other security issues in the South East.

(5) The members noted with satisfaction that the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodimma has offered Amnesty to all the unknown gunmen who are hiding in the bush. To this end, Governor Uzodimma has promised to offer full employment to as many youths that denounce nefarious activities in Imo State. It is hoped that since Governor Uzodimma is the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, all the other South East Governors will key into the Amnesty programme.

(6) The Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges the young men to take advantage of the amnesty programme for peace to reign in Igboland.

(7) The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu announced the establishment of a Special Committee, known as the “Committee for Reconciliation and Peace Building in Nigeria”, with Dr. Dominic Okechukwu as the Chairman while Dr. Joseph Ibekwe is the Secretary. The other members of the Committee will be announced later.

(8) Also the President General Inaugurated the Elders Council for Abuja and the Northern States of Nigeria. The Council is Chaired by His Excellency Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Chief SN Okeke as the Deputy while Prof. Charles Nwekeaku is the Secretary.

(9) Members lauded the robust initiatives so far taken by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, CFR since his assumption of Office as the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide; especially in the areas of peace building, transportation, railway, seaport, international airport and other areas of Igbo strategic interests. Members expressed immense delight that with the Iwuanyanwu vision, intellect and invaluable diverse contacts, a lot of lost grounds will be recovered.

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, MFR; OFR; CFR; FNICE; FNSE; KSC(Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo) has postponed the Convention for the 19 Northern States and Abuja Federal Capital Territory which was scheduled to hold at the Nicon Luxury, Abuja on Friday, October 13, 2023.

The cause of the postponement arose from some unforeseen circumstances that were beyond control.  Chief Iwuanyanwu however regrets the inconveniences the postponement may have caused to several patriotic Igbo sons and daughters who came from far and near to participate in the scheduled convention.  The Igbo Leader prayed that God will grant journey mercies to members that responded to the invitation, assuring that a new date for the convention will be announced later.

Chief Iwuanyanwu has on assumption of Office as the President General, restructured the Ohanaeze Ndigbo into three zones for Nigeria and four zones for the Diaspora chapters. The Igbo Leader explains that each of the zones will have at least one convention each year while the Igbo Day celebration, which involves all the zones and various chapters will hold on the September 29 of every year.
It is remarkable that the phenomenal 2023 Igbo Day celebration which was hosted by the good people of Enugu State at the Michael Okpara Square, Independence Lay Out, Enugu on September 29, 2023, after several years, is an eloquent testimony that with Ahaejiagamba, a new Ohanaeze Ndigbo is born.

…IGP Charges Applicants on Vigilance Against Fraudsters

The Nigeria Police Force is pleased to announce the commencement of the recruitment process for qualified individuals into the rank of Police Constables in the General Duty and Specialist Cadres. The Police Recruitment Board is set to open the application portal on October 15th, 2023, marking the beginning of an essential phase in enhancing the Force’s capabilities and effectiveness. Having followed the prolonged identity crisis that recently played out in the American Court System and the controversy surrounding the authenticity of the Chicago State University credentials of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I must confess that I am distressed as a Nigerian.

In addition to the barrage of media frenzy that the matter has triggered at home and abroad, I have had the unwholesome burden of responding to embarrassing questions about Nigeria’s overall credibility as a nation to privileged audiences and individuals both at home and abroad in different parts of the world where I have traveled lately.

To outsiders, the entire Chicago State University matter as well as Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s many other lingering identity question marks has further worsened Nigeria’s less-than-glorious image internationally. Uninformed outsiders now see every other Nigerian as a potential fraudster, certain forger, or identity thief. The controversy is unnecessary just as the implicit global embarrassment could have been avoided.

In my opinion, Chief Bola Tinubu should have saved the nation and himself from this protracted embarrassment and undue anxiety. Even this late in the day, however, Chief Bola Tinubu still owes the nation and the world a simple debt of obligation that only he can discharge. I call on him to immediately and personally mount the rostrum of his present high office to perform a simple task once and for all time. He should re-introduce himself to the nation he governs and to the world for the avoidance of further doubt. He should let the world know his name, nationality his place of birth, his parentage, the primary and secondary schools he attended with dates as well as the actual universities he attended and certificates obtained. He should indicate clearly where and when he did his National Youth Service. In addition, if at any time he has had a change of name, he should clearly state so and the circumstances. That, in itself, is no crime. This simple task should take no more than a few minutes. It requires no a+davits, prolonged court processes, spokespersons, agents, or surrogates. This task is one that only Chief Bola Tinubu himself through a direct personal statement can perform. He must perform this task urgently in order to lay to rest, once and for the last time, the many lingering doubts and valid speculations about his true identity.

A leader cannot outsource a clear unambiguous personal statement about his identity to political surrogates, social spokespersons, lawyers, or any other persons no matter how highly placed. A matter of the personal identity of a leader is too sensitive and central to the functions of the office he currently occupies to be tried with, outsourced, or disguised under the cloak of officialdom. It is also about integrity, morality, values, and the rule of law that denies the character of the Nation and its people. In his present capacity as a leader of a nation of over 200 million Nigerians, his true identity is a matter of grave national and international interest.

The people deserve to know for a certainty the true identity of their leader and this overrides whatever rights he may have to personal privacy. In addition, the international community deserves to know the true identity of the person with whom they will engage in Nigeria. Having stood for an election to the elevated public office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Bola Tinubu has implicitly undertaken to cede the rights of a private citizen in favour of a life of open disclosure of his true identity, and other circumstances that may be of public interest. His personal integrity demands no less. The legitimacy of the office he currently occupies demands that much and even more. Respect for the integrity and esteem of the Nigerian nation within the community of nations makes it even more incumbent and compulsory.

It is time to do the right thing.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

TIMIPRE SYLVA REMAINS APC BAYELSA STATE GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE

Against the backdrop of an Abuja Federal High Court decision that disqualified the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva, we wish to state categorically that Chief Sylva is and remains the Bayelsa State Governorship Candidate of our great Party in the November 11, 2023 Governorship election.

Our Party and its Candidate have duly instructed the legal team to appeal the said decision of the Federal High Court, diligently and expeditiously.

We urge our teeming members, supporters, and residents of Bayelsa State to remain calm and await the outcome of the appeal, and we remain confident that we shall prevail.

With nothing to offer the Bayelsa electorate, following its lacklustre performance as the ruling party, the jittery PDP in the Bayelsa state has since resorted to mercenary lawsuits, underhand dealings and antics to distract and create confusion among the good people of the state.

We wish to reconfirm that the Party’s Governorship Campaign Flag Off will be held on Saturday, 14th October, 2023 in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. All stakeholders, Party members, supporters, and the general public are cordially invited to join the winning campaign.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide sends a goodwill message to all teachers both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.

This message is very compelling especially when we reflect on the roles that teachers played in the history of the Igbo in Nigeria.

It is a common knowledge that the British penetrated most of the Igbo communities between 1900 t0 1920; but with the help of the committed teachers, the Igbo ascendancy in almost all the sectors of human endeavor was phenomenal.

I recall with nostalgia the consummate devotion of the pre-independence teachers towards community development programmes which earned them the sobriquet of Odozi-Obodo (Redeemers).

The teachers were the moral authority and indeed the pathfinders of the various rural communities. The teachers of the yore exuded discipline, knowledge, etiquette, uprightness and hard work.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo observes, rightly that the teachers are at the foundation of every profession. In other words, there is hardly any profession that does not benefit from the sweat of teachers. But, most unfortunately, the welfare of Nigerian teachers are often taken for granted.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo laments the poor conditions of teachers in Nigeria. There is no gainsaying that the building of a modern society begins with the empowerment of teachers, quality teaching and conducive learning environment.

Based on the foregoing, Ohanaeze aligns itself with the 2022 Act of the National Assembly that prescribes 65 years as the retirement age for teachers in Nigeria. We urge the states in the federation that have not keyed into this condition of service for teachers in Nigeria to consider it a priority.
