The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will preach at Lambeth Palace in London on Thursday as part of the activities for President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to the United Kingdom.
Lambeth Palace is the official residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury and a central site for the Church of England.
Details of the official itinerary published by AFP show that the First Lady will also meet with representatives of the Church of England during the visit.
Nigeria’s visit marks its first state visit to the United Kingdom in nearly four decades and is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
President Tinubu and Mrs Tinubu arrived in London on Tuesday through Stansted Airport ahead of a series of formal engagements.
The visit will feature talks with King Charles III and British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, alongside civic engagements with Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.
Mrs Tinubu, a devout Christian and ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has remained active in faith-based engagements and women’s empowerment programmes in Nigeria in recent years.
Stakeholders in Enugu State’s transport sector have unanimously endorsed the mandatory use of the newly constructed ultra-modern bus terminals, with luxury buses directed to commence operations at Holy Ghost Terminal 2 with immediate effect.
The resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a one-day stakeholders’ sensitisation meeting held on Monday, 16th March 2026, at Holy Ghost Terminal 1, Enugu.
The meeting brought together top government officials, security agencies, transport unions, and local government representatives to chart a new course for structured transport operations in the state.
Appreciation for Governor Mbah’s Vision
Stakeholders expressed profound appreciation to Governor Peter Mbah for the provision of the ultra-modern bus terminals, describing them as a model in the Southeast built with modern facilities to provide comfort, security, and structured processes for commuters and passengers alike.
The meeting acknowledged the Governor’s unwavering commitment to developing the transport sector in Enugu State.
Mandatory Use of Terminals
All stakeholders resolved to collaborate fully with the Enugu State Government to ensure the immediate and mandatory use of the bus terminals for all passenger loading and off-loading activities. Shop owners were requested to commence business in their respective shops, with additional shops still available for prospective occupants.
In a key resolution, it was agreed that all luxury buses shall commence operations at Holy Ghost Bus Terminal 2 with immediate effect. Similarly, tricycles (Keke) and town service mini-buses are to commence the off-loading of passengers at the same terminal.
Security Agencies Pledge Support
All law enforcement agencies present, including the Police (MTD Awkunanaw, CPS Ogui Road, Area Command), Nigerian Correctional Service, FRSC, and other paramilitary bodies, agreed to support Terminal Management in enforcing all approved policies and regulations.
Local Governments Commit to Enforcement
The Local Government Councils of Enugu North, Enugu East, Enugu South, and Nsukka pledged full cooperation with Terminal Management to ensure effective enforcement of all resolutions.
Toll Fees Reduced, Cashless Transactions Mandated
The meeting commended the reduction in terminal toll fees approved by the State Government as an incentive to promote compliance. It was also reaffirmed that no non-state actor shall collect any form of revenue within or around the terminals, and that all revenue collections shall be strictly cashless in line with the State Government’s directive.
Partnership Approach
All transport stakeholders were enjoined to regard themselves as partners and critical stakeholders in the ownership, protection, and success of the terminals.

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE ONE-DAY STAKEHOLDERS’ SENSITISATION MEETING ON THE USE OF ENUGU STATE BUS TERMINALS
Held on 16th March, 2026 at the Holy Ghost Bus Terminal 1, Enugu
A one-day stakeholders’ sensitisation meeting on the use of Enugu State Bus Terminals was held on Monday, 16th March 2026, at Holy Ghost Terminal 1, Enugu.
The meeting was attended by the Managing Director, Enugu East Zone Bus Terminals, Hon. John Egbo, Ph.D; the Managing Director, Enugu North Zone Bus Terminals, Hon. Prince Emeka Mamah; representatives of the Honourable Commissioner for Transport; the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Osinachi Nnajieze; Local Government Council Chairman of Enugu North represented by the SLG, Hon. Dr. Emeka Aroh; Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Council represented by his SPA on Security, Hon. Chinedu Agbo; Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Sir Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa (KSJ); DPOs of Awkunanaw Police Division, Central Police Division (CPS), Ogui Police Division, the Area Commander Nsukka, Nigerian Correctional Service, FRSC, Ministry of Transport Enforcement, Nigerian Civil Defense Corps, other paramilitary agencies, as well as transport unions and other critical stakeholders.
After extensive deliberations, the following resolutions were reached:
1. The Federal Government has declared Thursday, 19th March and Friday, 20th March 2026 as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-il-Fitr, which signifies the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan.
Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The minister, in a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasised during the holy month.
He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.
While wishing the Muslim faithful a joyful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, the minister encourages citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has been sworn in for a second term in office.
He took the oath during his inauguration which was held at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Akwa, the state capital on Tuesday.
Soludo was sworn in alongside his deputy, Dr Onyeka Ibezim.
The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan respectively.
Former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and others governors were also in attendance.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Soludo as the winner of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.
Soludo, who polled a total of 422,664 votes, defeated his closest rival, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nicholas Ukachukwu, who scored 99,445 votes, while the candidate of the Young Progressives Party, Sir Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes.
According to INEC, a total of 16 candidates from various political parties participated in the election.
The state had 2,788,864 registered voters, out of which 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, while 11,244 votes were rejected across the 21 local government areas.

Police anti-bomb operative at the scene of the blast at the Monday Market Maiduguri.
Many people are feared dead in multiple explosions that hit Maiduguri, Borno State Capital, Monday evening.
The explosions occurred simultaneously at the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the Monday Market Roundabout and the Post Office.
The incident happened 15 hours after terrorists had attacked military locations at Ajari, Baga and Damboa.
“We broke our fast, and were about to leave the market after closing our shops when the first bomb detonated. I heard a loud sound and just saw my neck bleeding.
“It was my brother that used his cloth to tied my neck and brought me to the hospital,” said one of the victims, Abacha Mustapha, from his hospital bed.
A witness, Umar Bolori, told our correspondent that the terrorists sneaked in the IEDs to the Monday market using tricycles.
“We saw how the IED was detonated from a tricycle, while the other one detonated close to the security vehicle where commuters were trying to board the N50 metro buses,” he said.
Security sources said the Boko Haram terrorists planted some of the Improvised Explosives Device (IEDs) in parts of the ancient town, while others were detonated by female suicide bombers.
The casualty figure could not be immediately ascertained, but a staffer of the Nigerian Red Cross, Babagana Isa, told our corespondent that five people had so far been reported dead.
“I can confirm that five people were pronounced dead at the specialist hospital, and we were told that some bodies were discovered at the Monday market,” he said.
Amateur videos posted on various social media platforms showed different scenes of the attacks.
Health and humanitarian workers were also scene struggling to take away corpses and the injured to hospitals.
Insurgents have surrounded Maiduguri – Residents
Many residents described the waves of attacks taking place on the outskirts of Maiduguri that include Dalwa (20km from the state capital), Ajilari (2km), Dalori (15km), Jakana (40km), Konduga (37km)and Kawuri (50km) as an indication that the insurgents had surrounded the town.
Aliyu Saidu said: “My wife was crying and praying that God should not allow her to witness a repeat of her past experience with the insurgents.”
Another resident of Gomari, Bashir Yusuf, said: “The whole air was being taken over by gunshots and explosions. But Alhamdullillah, the situation is calm and prayers have begun.”
The spokesperson of Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident saying the security operatives are on top of the situation.
“Following reports of an attack by suspected BH/ISWAP terrorists around Ajilari Cross – Kofa area of Maiduguri. Joint Security operatives have been mobilised to the scene and efforts are ongoing to assess the situation and restore normalcy.
“Members of the public are advised to remain calm, avoid the affected area and cooperate with security agencies as further updates will be communicated in due course.

In the past one month, Boko Haram insurgents have continued to demonstrate the ability to attack military bases and strategic civilian locations in Borno State.
These attacks, according to local and security analysts, have solidified the insurgents’ control over some territories that the military had taken over from them in the past.
Many sources revealed that the pattern of attacks was an indication of a long term plan by the terrorists to infiltrate the capital city of Borno, Maiduguri.
One of the sources said: “It’s expected that residents of Maiduguri should take the terrorist threat seriously and cooperate with security forces. Also, high-profile operations must be conducted by the military to prevent terrorists infiltration.”
Within a month, the insurgents have attacked military bases in Konduga, Jakana, Marte, Kawuri, Mainok, Dalori, Merari, Dalwa, Ngoshe and other surroundings close to Maiduguri.
Also, in a video circulating online, a group of five insurgents, under the leadership of Imam Ubu Umaima, had claimed responsibility for the attack on the military base in Ngoshe and promised to extend the same to Maiduguri and up to Abuja.
There are speculations that the waves of attacks by the terrorists are a response to high-profile operations being carried out by Nigerian troops in several terrorist enclaves.
A top civilian JTF commander said the insurgents had listed 25 communities they planned to attack.
“Although, with the help of the military, we were able to repel some of the attacks, they overpowered us in some places, killed our men and carted away unquantifiable ammunition,” he said.
He said the large cache of ammunition that the insurgents stole from the troops armory had emboldened them to prepare for more attacks.
“Surprisingly, they rolled out the locations to attack recently and they are executing them simultaneously. Among them is the airport.
“On that list, they also threatened to attack Banki, Kumshe, Daruljimal, Katafila, Dikwa, Gajibo, Sagame, Cameroon, Gidan Bulok, Kukawa, Kuros, Diffa (Niger Republic), Malam fatori and Gubio. They are doing it boldly,” he said.
Zulum condemns blast, calls for calm, vigilance
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has condemned the explosions.
Zulum, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, described the attack as despicable, cruel, and cowardly.
In a statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, called for increased vigilance and heightened security measures, particularly in places of worship, as the festive period beckons.
“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” he said.
He added, “The recent surge in attacks is not unconnected with intense military operations in the Sambisa forest and other hideouts of the insurgents”.
The governor assured people of the state that the military and other security agencies are on top of the situation.
He called on residents to remain calm, go about their usual activities, and report any suspicious movement or activity to security agencies.
Last month, the insurgents attacked the military base but it was repelled by the gallant troops under the command of the late Lt-Col Umar Faruq, and many terrorists were killed.
His brave response was commended by the community, which earned the Commanding Officer an accolade that was celebrated on social media.
In a video which circulated online, the lawmaker representing Kukawa LGA in the Borno State House of Assembly, Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, was seen celebrating the victory with troops.
Also, on 1st March, 2026, another commanding officer, Major Umar Ibrahim Mairiga, was killed when Boko Haram terrorists attacked his base in Mayenti, Bama local government area of the state.
“The unit commander, Major UI Mairiga, gave the terrorists a good fight but he was overpowered after some of his soldiers fled into the bush.
“He died a brave soldier, he killed many of them before being overpowered. When I arrived as reinforcements, we recovered RPG, Anti-aircraft, PKT and saw many corpses of the Boko Haram terrorists.
“I believe, if not that some of his men fled, he would have repelled the terrorists attack successfully,” one of the security sources said.
He said the Major was deployed to the forward operations base not more than four months ago after he got a special promotion.
This attack comes weeks after several soldiers were killed in an attack on another military base in Jakana, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, where the terrorists burnt armoured tanks and military vehicles and carted away unquantifiable ammunition.
On March 6th, the Commanding Officer of 222 Battalion Konduga, Lt Col SI Iliyasu was killed along with some soldiers during an attack by Boko Haram terrorists in Konduga.
Other personnel attached to the 21 Special Armour Brigade were killed during the ambush, including a Lieutenant.
On 28 January, Boko Haram attacked a military formation in Damasak and killed seven soldiers including the commanding officer, a major, during an ambush near Damasak, Borno State.
The terrorists ambushed them while on patrol, with reports indicating the officer was captured before being executed alongside other personnel.
On 20th October, 2025, the Nigerian Army confirmed the death of Lt. -Col Aliyu Saidu Paiko, the commanding officer of 202 battalion and other soldiers during encounters with Boko Haram terrorists in Bama LGA of Borno State.
Army spokeswoman, Lt.-Col Appolonia Anele, also said the operatives attached to 21 Special Armoured Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, resisted the terrorists on October 17, at Kashimri general area of Bama local government council of Borno State.
Last Wednesday, fourteen soldiers were killed during a coordinated attack on a military base in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA, a senior military officer was killed and almost 300 people abducted.
Sources confirmed that the terrorists are still living in Ngoshe town, while hundreds of the residents fled, and are now taking refuge in Pulka, an adjoining town to the attacked town.
Yesterday, the Boko Haram insurgents attacked the Dalwa, a Community about 20km to Maiduguri, in the Konduga Local Government Area.
Our correspondent gathered that the assailants succeeded in dislodging the residents and razed down the community, which was resettled recently by the Borno State Government.
This came shortly after the simultaneous attacks on four military bases in Konduga, Mainok, Jakana, and Marte town between 10 pm on Thursday night and 3 am on Friday.
Boko Haram never left Maiduguri – Dr Getso
A security expert, Dr. Yahuza Getso, said the recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, do not necessarily signal a resurgence of Boko Haram, insisting that the insurgents “never really left.”
Getso, who is the Managing Director of Eagles Integrated Security and Logistics Company Limited, said the attacks highlighted deeper systemic problems in Nigeria’s security architecture, including corruption, lack of accountability and weak justice systems.
Speaking on the latest bombings in Maiduguri, he said the focus should not be on whether Boko Haram has returned, but on why the insurgency has persisted despite huge resources spent on security.
“The question is not about resurgence. The question is: where did they go? They didn’t go anywhere. They are still there,” he said.
He noted that the country must critically examine issues such as recruitment into the security services, transparency in the use of security funds, and the sincerity of strategies deployed to tackle insurgency.
According to him, attacks may persist if the root causes of insecurity, including corruption, injustice and socio-economic inequality, are not addressed.
“There will be more bombings and more attacks if justice does not prevail and if we continue to politicise security challenges,” he said.
Getso also questioned how trillions of naira reportedly spent on security over the years had translated into tangible results, stressing that Nigerians expect clear outcomes.
He added that insurgents constitute a very small fraction of the population and should not be able to overwhelm the country if security institutions function effectively.
The expert further warned that rising unemployment and social inequality could make more youths vulnerable to recruitment by insurgent groups if urgent reforms are not implemented. Daily Trust

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for a State Visit to the United Kingdom as guests of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has revealed.
King Charles will host President Tinubu and his wife at Windsor Castle from Wednesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 19.
The state visit is the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years. President Tinubu is also the first Nigerian leader to be hosted by the British monarch at Windsor Castle.
Nigeria and the United Kingdom share a deep history of ties and a special bond. The purpose of this visit is to strengthen bilateral relations and explore avenues for collaboration on issues such as immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
While at Windsor Castle, Their Majesties will invite the President and the First Lady to view a special exhibition of items from the Royal Collection related to Nigeria. Later, the King and the President will hold private discussions and meet with organisations engaged in interfaith dialogue, both nationally and internationally.
The Royal Family will host a State Banquet in honour of the Nigerian guests in the evening.

President Tinubu will witness the signing of the landmark £746 million financing deal between the UK Export Finance (UKEF) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Federal Ministry of Finance to support the refurbishment of two of Nigeria’s major national maritime infrastructure – the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex.

Togo has expressed interest in increasing electricity imports from Nigeria through the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to meet rising domestic demand.
The Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday following talks with Togo’s national electricity utility.
The visiting delegation from Compagnie Energie Electrique du Togo was led by its Director-General, Débo‑K’mba Barandao, to strengthen existing power supply cooperation.
Barandao said C.E.E.T currently purchases about 75 megawatt-hours of electricity from NDPHC under a bilateral power supply arrangement.
“The imported electricity has played a significant role in sustaining stable power supply and economic activities across Togo,” he said.
According to him, Nigerian electricity imports help maintain reliable and affordable power for households, businesses and public institutions across the country.
He commended NDPHC’s consistency, noting that the partnership has improved reliability within Togo’s national grid and strengthened regional energy cooperation.
Barandao said electricity demand in Togo had surged due to new consumers, especially in industrial and commercial sectors, alongside government efforts to expand national access.
“In view of this development, C.E.E.T is strongly interested in increasing the volume of electricity it off-takes from NDPHC,” he said.
He added that additional supply would support power expansion plans and ensure stable electricity for newly connected consumers nationwide.
Responding, Adighije reaffirmed NDPHC’s readiness to deepen cooperation and sustain electricity exports to neighbouring countries within the West African region.
She said the company operates multiple plants under the National Integrated Power Project, with capacity to support increased regional electricity supply.
According to her, the partnership aligns with wider regional efforts under Economic Community of West African States to strengthen electricity trade among member states.
Adighije stressed that expanding electricity exports would require bankable and sustainable commercial arrangements between both parties.
She noted that credible financial guarantees and structured payment mechanisms would help reduce risks associated with cross-border electricity trade.
“A reliable payment framework will safeguard NDPHC’s interests and enable continued support for regional energy stability through power exports,” she said.
Both parties described the meeting as productive and reaffirmed commitment to strengthening electricity sector cooperation.

The family of Late Chief Obed Nnaji of Amugo community in Akpugo, Nkanu West local government area of Enugu state, has fixed Friday, March 20, 2026, for the final rites of passage of their matriarch, Mrs. Monica Nnenna Nnaji.
Late Mrs Nnaji, also known as ‘Nne Okwukwe’ was the mother of the immediate past Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji; the Director-General, All Progressive Governors’ Forum, Obiora Nnaji; a renowned Telecom Engineer, David Nnaji; and current member representing Nkanu East and West Federal Constituency, Pharm. Nnolim Nnaji.
In a funeral announcement signed by Chief Uche Nnaji, who’s the first son of the deceased, her obsequies will commence with a wake/service of songs on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, by 5pm at the Akpugo Development Center, Akpugo, Nkanu West.
This will be followed by her funeral service on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 10am, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Akpugo, Nkanu West; and the burial reception at the Akpugo High School Football Field, Nkanu West.

A High Court sitting in Gombe on Friday sentenced five men to various prison terms for exhuming a corpse and removing its eyes for alleged ritual purposes.
The court, presided over by Justice Abdulsalam Mohammed of Gombe State High Court No. 8, delivered the judgment after the defendants pleaded guilty to some of the charges brought against them.
The defendants are Mohammed Isah, also known as Chindo; Kawuni Sarki; Manu Saleh; Umar Jibrin, also known as Daddy; and Adamu Nasiru, all from Gadam village in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State.
A sixth defendant, Abdullahi Umar Dauda, was also arraigned in connection with the case.
The prosecution, led by state counsel, Ahmed Yakubu Gombe, told the court that the defendants were facing a 10-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, attempt to commit an offence, causing indignity to a corpse, unlawful entry into a graveyard, theft, destruction of public property, membership of an unlawful society, use of unlawful charms, and unlawful possession of a human head.
According to the prosecutor, the offences were committed on September 11, 2025, at the Gadam Muslim graveyard in Kwami Local Government Area.
Yakubu told the court that the defendants conspired with two other suspects, Aliyu Baka and Reuben, who are currently at large, to exhume the grave of a deceased person identified as Malam Manu Wanzam.
“They jointly exhumed the grave of the late Malam Manu Wanzam, unwrapped the burial shroud and brought out the fresh corpse. The defendants then removed the two eyes from the corpse,” the prosecutor told the court.
He added that one of the suspects, who is still at large, fled the scene with the plucked eyes, allegedly for ritual purposes.
“The accused persons unlawfully entered the Muslim graveyard at night, exhumed the corpse and removed the eyes of the deceased for ritual purposes, thereby causing indignity to the corpse and the grave,” Yakubu said.
The prosecutor further stated that the defendants also attempted to exhume another grave in the same cemetery on the same day.
He noted that the offences are punishable under Sections 96, 95, 218, 213, 286, 335, 306, 97A, 97B, 216 and 219 of the Penal Code Law.
During the proceedings, the defendants pleaded guilty to some of the charges after the court interpreter explained the charges to them.
Following their plea, the prosecution urged the court to summarily try them on the counts to which they admitted guilt, citing Sections 335(2) and 355(2) of the Gombe State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
Delivering judgment, Justice Abdulsalam Mohammed convicted and sentenced the defendants accordingly.
The court sentenced Mohammed Isah (Chindo), Kawuni Sarki, Manu Saleh, Umar Jibrin (Daddy), and Adamu Nasiru to six months’ imprisonment under Section 218 of the Penal Code.
They were also sentenced to one year’s imprisonment each on additional counts.
On the charge of theft, the court convicted Mohammed Isah, Kawuni Sarki, and Adamu Nasiru and sentenced them to two years’ imprisonment each.
Justice Mohammed ordered that the sentences should run consecutively.
Accordingly, Mohammed Isah was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment; Manu Saleh to two years and six months’ imprisonment; Umar Jibrin to two years and six months’ imprisonment; while Adamu Nasiru was sentenced to four years and six months’ imprisonment.
In his ruling, the judge said, “Having pleaded guilty to some of the charges, the defendants are hereby convicted and sentenced as stated by the court.”
The court further ordered that the trial would continue on the remaining counts against the defendants.
Justice Mohammed subsequently adjourned the case to April 16, 2026, for continuation of the hearing. Punch
