[VIDEO] Joy, Jubilation as Horizontal City Property CEO, Iloegbouba, gifts each employee plot of land in Enugu

It was all joy and jubilation as the employees of a reputable and trusted real estate company, Horizontal City Property Developers Limited, received a surprise gift of a plot of land, each, from Engr. Paul Basil Iloegbouba, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, making them landlords in the plush Enugu city.

In a video and message which he shared on his personal Facebook page, Iloegbouba made the announcement, Tuesday, October 4, 2022 during a staff meeting at the Enugu, Independence Layout office of the company.

The message read: “I called my staff for a meeting and after the meeting everyone of them was given one plot of land.

“If they serve you, service them and encourage them to come up.

“Yesterday they weren’t landlords but today they are all landlords. Congratulations to you guys. Horizontal City Property Developers Ltd, God is helping us”.

In the video, the employees were seen expressing mixed emotions of shock, joy and appreciation for the generous gift as they referred to him as “Godsent”. They expressed profound gratitude for his benevolence and reiterated their confidence in him and working with him.

Part of the transcribed video read “…Because of that, we’re giving one plot of land to everyone of you at Kubana estate. Starting from today you’re a landlord”.

In his post, Iloegbouba acknowledged their priceless service, efforts and hard work. He noted the importance of rewarding great service and encouraging more excellence.

Horizontal City Property Developers Limited is a reliable Southeast real estate company with offices in Enugu, Delta, Anambra and the United Kingdom.

Elon Musk to proceed with $44 billion buyout of Twitter

Elon Musk has decided to proceed with a $44 billion buyout of Twitter.

This is in accordance with a letter his lawyer sent to Twitter’s legal team on Tuesday.

According to the letter, Musk has agreed to proceed in closing the transaction in accordance with the April 25 merger agreement he originally signed, in which he agreed to pay $54.20 per share.

Twitter said, in a statement, that it received the letter and intends to close the transaction at the original share price offered by Musk’s team.

“The company plans to accept the offer but is waiting for confirmation that the judge can oversee the process,” said a person familiar with the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive matters, according to The Washington Post.

“Because there is great distrust on both sides, Twitter leaders are still questioning whether the letter represents a legal maneuver,” the person said.

The agreement would preempt a trial that had been scheduled for October after Musk’s efforts to walk away from his original acquisition agreement.

Mbaka hands over, denies prophesying against Peter Obi

The Founder and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu (AMEN) Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, has denied prophesying against Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

The priest who said this in a video he shared on Facebook on Wednesday noted that he never spoke ill of Peter Obi on Sunday.

Some online media platforms had reported that Mbaka reiterated his prophesy that Obi will be disgraced at the polls next year.

But reacting to the rumour, Mbaka, ‘After handing over to Fr Anthony Amadi on Sunday, I started hearing that Fr Mbaka spoke against Peter Obi.

“I Rev Fr Mbaka on that Sunday never mentioned Peter not to talk of Obi. Please whoever is being used by the devil to blackmail me in the name of doing any job for anybody, is satanic and should apologise, withdraw such nefarious, and satanic utterances and be careful when you want to harm the image of a man of God.

“Whoever did that, I have forgiven you, but I want to hear that you have apologised and withdrew what you said against me on that day. Just to put the Adoration ministry in trouble.

Mbaka also kicked against any plans to protest against his recent ordeal by his followers.

“Please as I have said, I heard some people are planning to protest. I have not asked anybody to protest for me. And I don’t want to hear that there is any protest done to express anger towards my journey to the monastery.

“Help me fellow adorers to stop any kind of protest that anybody will carry on my behalf to please me. Instead of the protest, or demonstration geared towards helping me, it may jeopardise my priestly call.

“Therefore, encourage peace, encourage love, within this time and do more of prayers and God of heaven will do the rest for us in Jesus name.

NASS grants first reading to Kalu’s bill seeking to modernise agricultural sector

The Senate, yesterday, granted first reading to a bill seeking to transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector into a modern business for agricultural land’s security amongst others.

In order to achieve its goal, the proposed law sponsored by the Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu seeks to establish the National Agriculture Technology Board which will be saddled with the responsibility of implementing the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy.

Further details of the bill fronted by the Abia-North senator reveals that the Agricultural Board’s task would include: to ensure the implementation of the National Agricultural Technology and innovation policies, research into and develop methods of modern farming beneficial to Nigeria’s landscape, source fund for agricultural projects; include all relevant stakeholders in the advancement and implementation of the policies; and perform any other responsibility conferred on the Board by the Federal Government.

Leader of the Senate, Senator Ibrahim Gobir presented the short title of the bill to the members of Senate plenary, shortly afterwards the Senate in a voice vote presided by the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan passed the first reading of the bill.

World Teachers Day: Obi lauds teachers as heart of Nigeria’s education development

Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has said teachers form a critical and indispensable part of educational development in the nation, saying that they deserve commendation and encouragement for their role in driving national development and progress.

Obi, who made this known in his Message to mark World Teachers Day 2022, applauded all teachers in Nigeria for their sacrifice to ensure that Nigerian students, at all levels of learning, receive good educational and moral formation. He said that by their critical role in moving the educational sector forward, they are helping to drive national growth and development, which education is a critical component of.

Obi encouraged the teachers to strive daily to remain good role models to students, both in learning and in character. He also urged them to continuously improve their knowledge and skills, so as to keep pace with the dynamic and constantly evolving global education system, and be at par with their peers around the world.

He lamented that education has continued to suffer untold neglect from the government, thus leading to obvious neglect of teachers’ welfare. He said the lingering strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) exemplified the neglect education has continued to suffer due to bad governance in the country.

“It remains unimaginable that after eight months of industrial action by the ASUU, the Federal Government is yet to find a lasting solution to the issue which has lingered over the years. How can we achieve a truly progressive nation with education and teachers’ welfare continually relegated to the background,” Obi.

He called on the Federal Government to consider the future of young students, who are the major victims of the ASUU strike, and as a matter of urgency, ensure that the demands of ASUU are resolved so that the students can return to school.

Obi recalled his years as the Governor of Anambra State, how the state soared in educational development, maintaining the first position in WAEC and NECO during his administration. He revealed that the teachers in the state played a significant role in that glorious achievement.

“Just as we managed, motivated and encouraged the teachers to give their best during my years as governor of the state, we will ensure that teachers in Nigeria are well trained and motivated to remain productive in their duties, under my watch, when elected the President of the country,” Obi said.

Following the recently concluded nominations for awards in some categories by The Pacesetter Frontier Magazine for the second edition of her Annual Public Lecture Series and Awards dubbed Frontier Discourse, and the entire voting process which saw a record total of 24,931 votes spread across 20 countries of the world, the Magazine has announced the emergence of notable Nigerians as recipients of the awards.

Ndi Enugu,

On this Teachers day, I recognise and praise your noble efforts as you give your lives to

shape our children for the future.

I celebrate your passion for your work in spite of the tough conditions under which you work.

For those in the primary schools, your strike actions have been clear evidence of how bad

things have gotten under the PDP led administration.

I am also aware of the unnecessary dichotomy created between our teachers in the primary

and secondary schools; an attempt, in my opinion, aimed at destroying the foundation of our

education system.

We must change the story.

I will take this opportunity to highlight the vision I have for our educators in Enugu State.

My dream is to raise the status of teachers and attract high achievers and new graduates to

the profession.

I envision a future where educators and the government will sit at a table to draw policies

that address real pain points and are effectively implemented to solve the problems.

I envision a future where teachers are properly and duly rewarded for their hard work; where

active and retired teachers alike are promptly paid.

I envision a future where our teachers have access to regular training and are exposed to

new teaching methods as they are introduced. There will be improved access to technology and innovative solutions for the challenges faced in the classrooms

Our Schools will become some of the most conducive places to learn, giving teachers the

advantage that they need to train our children.

These and more form a robust development plan for our education system in Enugu State.

With the political will and my government’s dedication to do what is best for our people, our

vision of empowered, well equipped and happy teachers will become a reality.

Enugu State govt declared Nutrition Friendly, as UNICEF holds 5-Day ‘Community of Practice’ Workshop

The Enugu State Government through the Ministry of Budget and Planning in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) had on Sunday, 2nd of October commenced a 5 day Community of Practice Workshop on Building Capacity to Mainstream Nutrition into the Investment Agenda at Nike Lake Resort Hotel, Enugu.

In his welcome address during the opening ceremony, the Enugu State Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Planning whose Ministry coordinates Nutrition activities in the State, David Okelue Ugwunta Ph.D., stated that nutrition is the right of every child and so has become a priority in the development process. He noted that His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a nutrition friendly governor hence has assiduously engaged in many interventions (APPEALS, ENUGU-VCDP, ATASP-1, Youth Agricultural Training Programmes amongst others) to boost food systems and Nutrition in the State as well as the acceptance to the approval of the State Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action on Nutrition by the State Executive Council, and the inclusion of nutrition and its related activities as line items in the budget.

Dr. Ugwunta remarked that the programme is expected to broaden the horizon of the participants on the area of planning, coordination, implementation and budgeting processes by virtue of the ideas/ knowledge shared by the seasoned partners that have the technical know-how. He also added that the programme will enhance capacity building on the implementation of nutrition activities through a multi-sectoral approach to tackle malnutrition in our society.

The UNICEF Coordinator, Mrs. Ngozi Onuora in her welcome address noted that nutrition is the pivot for health thus the essence of the Community of Practice Workshop is to create a platform where States in Enugu and Rivers Field Offices in identified nutrition flagship States in Nigeria will deepen their understanding in effective advocacy and partnership processes.

Mrs. Onuora in her presentation noted that Nigeria as a nation is currently off track towards the actualization of Sustainable Development Goal 2 (End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture) as she ranks number 1 in Africa and number 2 in the world in the level of malnourished children.

She further stressed that the right to nutrition can be achieved when everyone in a society has physical and economic access at all times to adequate food. She however added that the first 1000 days of a child and adolescent is a critical window essential for promotion of optimal growth, health and development.

Strikingly, the National Coordinator, Academic and Research Network, Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, Prof. Kola Matthew Anigo in a presentation tagged, “The Conceptual Framework on Maternal and Child Nutrition” noted that the issue of malnutrition continues to be one of the world’s most critical health and human development challenges. He further revealed that the cause of malnutrition is multi-layered and that most prevalent health cases like stunting, risks of stroke, low birth weight, to mention but a few, often wrongly attributed to intergenerational traits, are undoubtedly proven to be the effects of malnutrition. Prof. Anigo reiterated that when early nutrition is given priority in the society that human capital development is built, school completion is increased, poverty is reduced and the economy is boosted.

In line with the other facilitators, the Steering Committee Chairman CS-SUNN and Chairperson Advocacy Save The Children International, Mr. Ifedilichukwu Ekene Innocent added that human capital development remains the fulcrum for greater economic development especially for middle and low-income nations like Nigeria.

He however noted that for Nigeria as a country with high burden of malnutrition to achieve the SDG 2 zero hunger goal; among others a multisectoral approach to nutrition programme, budget advocacy/budget process and funding of nutrition interventions/investments in social sectors like nutrition should be adopted.

Capping it up, the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. George Ugwu, recalled that the Multi-sectoral approach is already working in Enugu state. He however added that there is need to integrate some of our very own healthy traditional practices like Omugwo in order to improve nutrition.

The workshop had in attendance the Ag. Chairman of the State Committee on Nutrition, Mr. Edwin Anukwe, Mrs. Chinwe Onumonu, the Academia led by Prof. Lizzy Ngwu, State Nutrition Officers and Permanent Secretaries from 12 States of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, Delta, Kogi, Rivers, Enugu, Imo and Benue States, Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) and Members of the Press.

Buhari to present N19.76tn 2023 budget to NASS on Friday

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Friday this week present the N19.76trillion 2023 Appropriation bill in a joint session, before the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Presentation will take place 10:00am at the temporary chamber of House of Representatives . This will be Buhari’s last budget before he leaves office in May, 2023

The Letter on the Budget presentation by President Buhari was personally written by him and read in Plenary Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan.

Peter Obi raises alarm over arrest of ‘Obidients’ by security agents

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi has claimed that security agents are ‘silently arresting’ his Obidients supporters.

Obi made this allegation in a series of tweets via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.

His words, “Recent reports of OBIdients being silently arrested by some security agents is extremely disturbing and condemnable. We must ensure that everyone is given a level playing field in the forthcoming elections, and that no eligible Nigerian, irrespective of ethnicity, religion or political affiliation is disenfranchised, more so through violence and intimidation.

“Elections are not deemed free and fair when a certain group employs the tool of intimidation to ensure that the opposition is silenced, both at the campaigns and at the polls.

“Peaceful assembly and unfettered electioneering campaigns are constitutionally guaranteed. Both and other ordered liberties cannot be breached wilfully by security agents,” he said.

Obi, however, called on the Federal and State agencies to remind their operatives on the need to respect civil liberties.

Recall that supporters of Obi had also raised the alarm over alleged intimidation by the officials of security agencies at the Lagos4ObiDatti during the weekend (Saturday).

A member of Peter Obi Central Coordinators, F S Yusuf, whow made the claim in a tweet via his Twitter handle, stated that Peter Obi’s supporters are being harassed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport 1.

His tweet reads, “Reports reaching me Joseph Onuorah @BigJoeOfLagos an #Obidient and a part of the Lagos ObiDatti Rally is being held by the DSS/Immigration at the MMA1 upon his arrival from France. He was flagged on the “Stop List”. We call on the authorities to respect his rights……”

A coalition of support groups, Lagos4ObiDatti, backing Peter Obi in 2023, had earlier announced plans to hold its Lagos 4-million-man march for ObiDatti.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos, the Lagos4ObiDatti Central Organizing Committee said the march will take place across three major locations on October 1, 2022.

The group, however, denounced any attempt to link the Lagos Obidient Rally to the 2020 #EndSars Movement.

Speaking on the Lagos4ObiDatti rally, chairman of the Publicity and Media Committee, Christopher Ademuyiwa, had stated that the march would hold simultaneously in three different locations in the Lagos metropolis, namely Admiralty gate Lekki Phase 1; Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, GRA, Ikeja; and at FHA field on 23 road Festac.

Ademuyiwa said: “This march is more like a carnival, and the Obidients in Lagos are gearing up in large numbers to show their support for the Peter Obi and Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed presidential ticket.

“Also, plans have been made to have buses transport Obidients to and from their locations, and the bus pickup points will be released on social media.

“Our march is legal and constitutional, it is within the electoral time frame and calendar released by INEC and all security agencies have been duly and formally informed using the appropriate means.

“The police, NSCDC, road safety and DSS will be on ground to provide security as we march,” Ademuyiwa had said.

Meanwhile, Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilization group had, ahead of the rally, stated that, as advised by our legal team, all the support groups for Peter Obi will comply with the Court Order and directives contained therein as it relates to Lekki Toll Gate.

“We will not deviate from the planned routes as judiciously Ordered. We urge every OBIDIENTS to comply,” the group stated in a post via its Twitter handle on Saturday.

Trump sues CNN, seeks $475m for defamation

CNN, however, has not reacted to the ex-President’s suit as of the time of filing this report as Trump claimed in the 29-page lawsuit that CNN had a long track record of criticising him.

“As a part of its concerted effort to tilt the political balance to the left, CNN has tried to taint the Plaintiff with a series of ever-more scandalous, false, and defamatory labels of ‘racist,’ ‘Russian lackey,’ ‘insurrectionist,’ and ultimately ‘Hitler,’” the lawsuit claims.

The lawsuit lists several instances in which CNN appeared to compare Trump to Hitler, including a January 2022 special report by host Fareed Zakaria that included footage of the German dictator.

In a statement, the former president said he would be filing lawsuits against other major media companies “in the coming weeks and months,” and that he could even take action against a congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by his supporters.
