“If you don’t know security, come to Enugu,” Bishop Onah Hails Mbah at 53

… As Enugu rally governors, leaders across party divide

…Edeoga, Enugu NASS Caucus hail Mbah

…I won’t betray your trust, Mbah tells Enugu citizens

The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Godfrey Onah, has commended the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah on what he described as highly improved security of lives and property in the state.

He equally lauded his infrastructural transformation effortz and overall speedy development of the state, describing him as a trailblazer in the business of governance.

Bishop Onah spoke at a surprise birthday dinner put together in Mbah’s honour by his aides and admirers across party lines and religious denominations to mark his 53rd birthday in Enugu on Monday evening.

At the event, which had in attendance the former governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as well as Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, Senator Okey Ezea and Member representing Igboeze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Hon. Dennis Agbo both of Labour Party as well as several other opposition leaders, leaders of various religious bodies, the Catholic clergy commended Mbah for recognizing the contributions of his successors and for his all-inclusive approach to governance.

“Building on successive achievements of the leaders of this state without exception, Gov. Mbah has consolidated.

“If you don’t know what to do about security, come to Enugu State. You are doing well and a lot on security.

“So, we are all here to pray for you to continue your good work,” he stated.

Also speaking, Catholic priest, teacher and scholar, Rev. Monsignor Obiora Ike, commended the governor for keeping the state secure and peaceful, while also vowing to continue to stand by the governor, telling him the truth at all times to ensure he did not derail.

“The previous governor, another former governor and the current governor are all sitting completely together here, one next another. There is something convincing about this. It is your demeanour and humility that make it possible. Others will say, ‘it is only me that will stand as a king,’ but that is not who you are and what you do,” Monsignor Ike, who is also a professor, stated.

Earlier in their goodwill message, the Enugu State Caucus, House of Representatives, comprising members of the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party, also eulogised the governor’s performance and leadership style.

“We proudly identify with your laudable efforts in the transformation of our state through your inclusive development governance model.

“We wish you many happy returns, divine wisdom and support as you superintend over the affairs of our dear state,” the Caucus said.

Likewise, the Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 governorship election, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, in his goodwill message on several news channels, commended Mbah and prayed for God’s continued wisdom and grace upon him and his leadership.

Meanwhile, Governor Mbah, while expressing profound gratitude to the people and leaders of the state, who looked beyond political and all manner of divides to accord him a pleasant surprise and continue to support his administration, vowed that he would never let them down.

“In October 2022, when we outlined our plans and vision, we promised Ndi Enugu that we are going to make Enugu State the premier destination for business, investment, for leisure and for living.

“We also said that beyond growing our economy to an exponential level, we were also going to eradicate poverty, which is largely responsible for our grassroots and all-inclusive approach to development where nobody is left out.

“We made a promise that day that we were going to serve with every fiber of our being; that we will not betray the trust. I am also standing before you this evening to reenact that promise that I will not let you down. And we are not going to betray your trust. We are going to serve you with every fiber of our being,” Mbah assured.

  • Female Corps Member Alleges Threat Over Criticism of Tinubu Gov’t

Female Corps Member Alleges Threat Over Criticism of Tinubu Gov’t

Corps MemberA Lagos-based National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Uguamaye, has alleged that she has been facing threats after posting a viral video criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration over inflation and economic hardship in Nigeria.

In the video, which was shared on her TikTok account (@talktoraye) on Saturday, Uguamaye expressed deep frustration about the country’s worsening economic conditions, stating that hard work seems futile amid financial struggles.

She went further to describe President Tinubu as a “terrible leader”, questioning the government’s efforts to alleviate citizens’ suffering. Additionally, she criticised Lagos State, referring to it as a “smelling state”, citing poor living conditions and environmental issues.

Following the widespread circulation of her video, Uguamaye claimed that she began to receive threats, allegedly from NYSC officials, who pressured her to take down the content.

In response to the backlash, she took to Instagram (@iamraye__) to express her frustration over what she described as attempts to silence her, insisting that she only spoke the truth about Nigeria’s realities.

“Dear Nigerians, I am already getting threatened by the NYSC board to stop speaking on this issue. Less than 24 hours, I’m already getting threatened by the government, starting with the NYSC board!” she wrote.

Corps MemberCorps MemberCorps MemberCorps MemberRaising concerns for her safety, she added, “Dear Nigerians, they have my address. In case you guys don’t see me online, please you know who to hold accountable. I didn’t do anything wrong. I just asked that they work on the inflation.”

“Why can’t I speak up? Being an NYSC corper doesn’t mean I signed away my right to complain. Why can’t the government listen to the criticisms of its citizens?”

Uguamaye also alleged that NYSC officials were actively searching for her, claiming that an officer was asking people to “point her out” as though she were a criminal.

“She’s asking people to identify me? I’m not a criminal. Reading the NYSC rules, I didn’t commit any crime. Ask the NYSC lady to stop asking people to point me out—at this point, she’s acting scary.”

Despite mounting pressure, she maintained that she would not delete her video, arguing that doing so could put her at greater risk.

“Deleting this content is of no use because they already know me. However, deleting it means whatever they do to me, nobody would know. If they decide to give me a hefty punishment, nobody would know because I used my own hands to cover it by deleting what I started.”

Uguamaye emphasised that she only exercised her constitutional right to free speech, insisting that NYSC membership does not strip corps members of their fundamental rights.

“All I did was lament, all I did was complain. I’m getting tons of messages like this from my fellow corpers. What is wrong with just one person complaining? Why are they looking for me like I’m a criminal?

“I made sure not to accuse the government of anything maliciously! I questioned them. I asked questions. As an NYSC corper, I didn’t sign off my freedom of speech.”

She also claimed that she had received direct messages revealing that her personal details had been shared with those trying to track her down.

“They keep calling me, and I’ve switched off my phones. Now, they are texting me my personal details on WhatsApp to inform me they know me well.

“Dear NYSC, if you say a corper has faulted, you wouldn’t treat them like this and scare them! You are scaring me for my dear life. Please, leave me alone.

“You told me to report to the office on Monday. Okay! What else? Why are you looking for me? I just exercised my right to free speech, which is the right of every citizen—unless they tell me that being an NYSC corper removes me from being a citizen.”

Uguamaye’s allegations have sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians questioning whether the NYSC is suppressing free speech among corps members.

While some argued that NYSC members should abide by certain restrictions as temporary government employees, others insisted that freedom of expression is a fundamental right that must be protected, regardless of NYSC status. Leadership

  • Natasha’s suspension: SERAP drags Akpabio to court

Natasha’s suspension: SERAP drags Akpabio to court

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a suit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the failure to reverse the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

SERAP alleged that the suspension was based solely on the peaceful exercise of Natasha’s right to freedom of expression.

Akpabio is sued for himself and on behalf of all members of the Senate.

The Senate recently suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, after she reportedly “spoke without permission” and “refused her new seat in the Senate chamber.”

Her salary and allowances have also been withheld for the duration of the suspension, and she has been barred from identifying herself as a senator.

In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/498/2025 filed last Friday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, SERAP sought: “an order of mandamus to direct and compel Mr Akpabio to rescind the unlawful suspension of Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, reinstate her, and fully restore all her legislative rights, entitlements, and privileges.”

It also sought: “an order of perpetual injunction restraining the Senate from further suspending or taking any disciplinary action against Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan solely for the peaceful exercise of her fundamental human rights.

“A declaration that the application of sections 6(1)(2) of the Senate Rules, the Senate Standing Orders 2023 (as amended), to suspend Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan violates her human rights and deprives her constituents of their right to political participation.”

In the suit, SERAP argued that: “Granting this application would serve the public interest and promote respect for the rights of everyone in the National Assembly.” Daily Trust

In his remarks, Obi underscored the significance of his donation, stressing that healthcare and education are critical to national development and the well-being of citizens. Commending the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara for embarking on the college of nursing project, he described it as a vital contribution to securing a better future for Nigeria. “My Lords, what you are doing is a great service to our country,” Obi said. “This donation is not a favour to you, but a recognition of your efforts in nation-building. I will always support this project because it is about securing a better future for our country.”

Obi further stated that the government must prioritise quality education, including the prompt payment of teachers’ salaries. He emphasised the need for free and accessible education at the primary and secondary levels, both in public and private schools. He assured that he would continue to support the colleges of nursing to ensure they become centres of excellence in training healthcare professionals who will contribute to national development.

Expressing his gratitude, Bishop Nwobi commended Obi for his relentless commitment to building a better Nigeria. “We are deeply grateful for this generous donation,” the bishop said. “You have been doing so much for our country, and we continue to pray for God’s will to be done in your life.” He also confirmed that the college would officially commence operations next year and invited Obi to attend the opening ceremony.

  • Mbah Signs Executive Order to Relocate Coal Camp Spare Parts Market

Mbah Signs Executive Order to Relocate Coal Camp Spare Parts Market

Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has signed an Executive Order relocating the current spare parts and allied trades markets as well as all other related industrial and commercial activities in the Coal Camp and other neighbourhoods within the Enugu Capital Territory to the site of the new International Spare Parts and Allied Trades Park.

The new site traverses Udi and Ezeagu Local Government Areas along the Enugu-Onitsha Road of the state.

The Executive Order is entitled the Designation and Establishment of the Enugu International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Traders Park, Nsude, Udi LGA and Ogwofia Owa in Ezeagu LGA and the Relocation of the Coal Camp Neighborhood and other Neighbourhoods in the Enugu Capital Territory to the New Enugu International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Park Site.

Speaking at the the brief signing ceremony witnessed by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, and leaders of Enugu spare parts dealers at the Government House on Friday, Mbah assured that the errors and challenges presented by the Coal Camp Spare Parts Market were being effectively addressed in the new one.

“This new market is actually a purpose-built vehicle because it is designed for market in the true sense of the word and with all the supporting facilities. We have taken into account all the safety codes that are required to have an international market.

“As you may already be aware, the construction is ongoing. We are aggressively opening up the roads and also the building itself. That construction has commenced.

“Our hope is that in the next few months, we are going to see the movement of you all from the current location to an international market where we have provided all the services. There is going to be a clinic and fire service there. There is going to be a truck park.

“All the errors, all the challenges and the problems we have in the existing market will all be addressed in the new market.

“We have also made sure that you do not live very far from your market. We have residences around the market. It is an ideal neighborhood concept where you can live comfortably within your neighborhood and still do your trading and businesses comfortably without traveling far to get things done,” the governor said.

In his remarks, the President of Enugu Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association, Chief Michael Nomeh, hailed the governor for keeping to his campaign promise after decades of disappointments endured by the traders

“We are so excited about the relocation of the Enugu motor spare parts dealers to the permanent site, which is of international standard.

“We thank the governor for the campaign promise that he has fulfilled. Since the inception of democracy in 1999 to date, there have been so many promises to our people that they will relocate us to the international market. But none of them has kept to their promises. That is why we appreciate the governor for keeping the campaign promises less than two years in office. He is a governor whom does exactly what he says he would do,” Chief Nomeh stated.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, described both the move and the location of the new site as strategic, noting that the traders would be able to own shops, unlike the present Coal Camp site where most of them rented shops.

He explained that Enugu State Government is committed to the establishment of a commercial hub that will be a self-contained community with the full compliments of the various ancillary and supporting land uses that will create a comprehensive multi-functional commercial and industrial ecosystem in the emerging 9th Miles business corridor of the State.

“This move is a strategic one aimed at boosting our state economy in our drive to a $30bn GDP economy.

“If you know the location of the new place, it is so strategic. You cannot go from the Middle Belt or South South or Cross River or even from Cameroon to Onitsha without passing through there.

“The government is not building to make profit, but for the traders to move to a well-organised and safe environment for trading and living.

“The place is designed to have the commercial sections with shops of different categories, warehouses, workshops, ample parking spaces, water, power, and other utilities facilities.

“There are also residential areas. There are also going to be smart schools, the primary healthcare centers, the fire service station, Police station, the recreational park, and a football pitch. It is a modern place that everybody will be proud to live in. It is built for modern spare part and allied trade professionals,” he added.

  • Appeal Court Halts Reinstatement of Sanusi II as Emir of Kano

Appeal Court Halts Reinstatement of Sanusi II as Emir of Kano

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has halted the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano, pending an appeal before the Supreme Court.

A three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Okon Abang, ruled on Friday that the implementation of the January 10 judgment—which had overturned Sanusi’s removal—should be suspended. The earlier ruling, delivered by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, had found that the nullification of Sanusi’s appointment by a Kano State High Court lacked jurisdiction.

However, in fresh applications CA/KN/27M/2025 and CA/KN/28M/2025, the appellate court deemed it necessary to preserve the subject matter of the case. Justice Abang emphasised that Sanusi, having served as emir for five years before his removal, deserved legal protection.

The dispute traces back to June 20, 2024, when a Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice Abubakar Liman, nullified the Kano State Government’s Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Law 2024, which had reinstated Sanusi II as the 16th Emir. The ruling was challenged by Aminu Baba-Dan’Agundi, leading to a complex legal battle involving multiple appeals.

The appellate court ruled that chieftaincy disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the Kano State High Court or the FCT High Court, not the Federal High Court. Consequently, it ordered that the case be transferred to the Kano State High Court, where a new judge—one not previously involved—would oversee the matter.

The court also imposed a fine of N500,000 against Baba-Dan’Agundi in favor of the Kano State House of Assembly. However, Justices Mohammed Mustapha and Abdul Dogo disagreed on the transfer order, ruling instead that Baba-Dan’Agundi’s suit should be struck out entirely.

The case remains in legal limbo as the Supreme Court is set to determine the final outcome of Sanusi’s reinstatement. Newscentral
