The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, John Chukwuma Ogbodo, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag-bearer for the forthcoming local government council election in the area after securing victory in the party’s direct primary election.
The primary election, held on May 26, 2026, involved card-carrying APC members across the 14 wards of the local government area, with Ogbodo polling a total of 14,593 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.
The result was announced at the Nkanu West Local Government Headquarters in the presence of party stakeholders, faithful, and supporters who gathered to witness the conclusion of the exercise.
Supporters of the council chairman described his emergence as a reflection of the confidence reposed in his leadership by party members and residents of the area, citing his developmental initiatives, grassroots engagement, and style of administration as factors responsible for the outcome.
They noted that Ogbodo had continued to position himself as a people-oriented leader committed to the welfare and progress of Ndi Nkanu West through what they described as purposeful and inclusive governance.
The stakeholders also commended the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his leadership and commitment to the development of the state, saying his administration had continued to inspire confidence among party faithful and residents.
According to them, the outcome of the primary election signals continuity, unity, and sustained grassroots development in Nkanu West ahead of the council poll.
By this development, Ogbodo is set for re-election for a second term in office if he wins the local government election.
