ENUGU STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE OF WEDNESDAY, 5TH JULY 2023
BAN ON ILLEGAL SIT-AT-HOME ORDER: ENUGU CP SAYS POLICE NOT DETERRED BY PANIC-INDUCED FALSE ALARM, REASSURES PUBLIC SECURITY AND SAFETY, URGES CITIZENS TO BE MINDFUL OF FAKE NEWS
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, has emphatically reiterated that the Police shall never be deterred by the panic-causing and disinformative schemes of subversive criminal elements, hell-bent on inflicting physical, psychological and socio-economic pains on their brothers and sisters, on the pretext of enforcing the ill-conceived illegal sit-at-home order in the State. This stems from the reports of panic and pandemonium observed in the morning hours of today, 05/07/2023, in some parts of Enugu metropolis and beyond, due to false alarm and the circulation of fake news (texts, pictures, and videos) alleging shootings and attacks by miscreants enforcing the illegal order.
2. Consequently, the CP has reassured the good people of the State of the unwavering commitment of the Police and other Security Forces to, in line with the State Government’s prohibition of the order, ensure the daily security and safety of citizens against the unconscionable activities of the criminals. He, however, wonders why the unscrupulous elements would raise such senseless false alarm with the accompanying fake news, which was circulated to create panic and chaos for the same people they claim to be agitating for. He vows that the Police shall fish out and bring to book the creators and peddlers of the malicious and misleading information .
3. Meanwhile, the Commissioner has urged citizens of the State to be mindful of and disregard such malevolent schemes of the miscreants, which have over time become their stock-in-trade. He enjoins them to, as always, remain vigilant and law-abiding, as they go about their lawful businesses, while reporting the subversive criminal elements and their activities to the nearest Police Station. Or alternatively call the Command’s emergency hotlines on: 08032003702, 08075380883, 08086671202 or 08098880172, or send emails to [email protected].
