The Mmiri Oma Campaign Council for the election of Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe as Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area has begun an intensified grassroots mobilisation drive across the 14 wards of Nkanu East ahead of the September 26, 2026 Local Government Council election and the 2027 general elections.
The campaign council held a strategic meeting with the 14 APC ward chairmen on Tuesday, August 25, as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and ensure that its programmes and campaign messages reach communities across the local government.
Addressing the ward chairmen, the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Hon. Prince Nwatu, described them as the “drivers” of the APC at the grassroots and urged them to take ownership of the party’s mobilisation efforts in their respective wards.
Nwatu also highlighted the rural road projects of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration, saying improved connectivity was bringing government closer to rural communities and making it easier for farmers to move their produce from farms to markets.
He specifically cited the improved road connection between Ihuokpara and Ugbawka, saying the rehabilitation and opening of rural roads were changing travel patterns and strengthening links among communities across Nkanu East.
According to him, the projects demonstrate the administration’s effort to take governance and development to the grassroots.
Speaking on behalf of the ward chairmen, their leader, Comr. Okeke A. Victor, expressed appreciation to the APC chairmanship candidate, the campaign council and Nwatu.
He welcomed Nwatu’s appointment as Director-General of the campaign council, expressing confidence in his leadership and ability to deliver victory for the party.
Okeke urged the ward chairmen to work towards a 100 per cent APC victory, calling on them to take the party’s programmes, achievements and campaign message directly to villages and communities within their wards.
The APC chairmanship candidate, Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, commended the ward chairmen for their commitment, describing them as “the lions of their respective wards.”
Ogbuekwe charged them to activate and mobilise youths across the 14 wards, noting that young people were critical to grassroots mobilisation, community engagement and electoral success.
He also assured the ward chairmen that he understood the major needs of communities across Nkanu East, including roads, electricity, security and other essential infrastructure.
He pledged to prioritise those concerns under his leadership, if elected.
The meeting further strengthened the campaign council’s grassroots mobilisation strategy as the September 26 council election approaches, with the party leadership urging members across the 14 wards to remain united and focused.
The council also reaffirmed its determination to build a strong grassroots structure capable of driving its campaign ahead of both the 2026 local government election and the 2027 general elections.
