The free medical outreach sponsored by Hon. Ifeanyi Nnamani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Nkanu West Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, has reached more than 5,000 residents across the four development centres of Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The outreach, which commenced on August 1, 2026, concluded with a grand finale at St. John’s Primary School, Agbani, on Monday, August 10, where residents of Agbani and Amuri wards received free medical consultations, medications, diagnostic screenings, eyeglasses and other healthcare services.
The exercise was held at Awkunanaw Development Centre on August 1, Akpugo Development Centre on August 3, Obe/Ozalla Development Centre at Community Primary School, Ugwu Obe, on August 5, and Agbani/Amuri Development Centre at St. John’s Primary School, Agbani, on August 10.
At the grand finale, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, commended Nnamani for sponsoring and organising the outreach, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to improving the welfare of the people.
Ogbodo said the initiative showed that leadership was not only about occupying public office but also about identifying with the people and taking practical steps to address their needs.
He also commended Governor Peter Mbah for providing an enabling environment for young people to contribute to the development of their communities.
Ogbodo described Nnamani as one of the young leaders inspired by Mbah’s people-oriented approach to governance and urged him to sustain his commitment to service and grassroots development.
Speaking at the finale, Ifeanyi Nnamani described the outreach as a compassionate way of giving back, saying he had sustained similar interventions for more than ten years.
“It is basically something that we have been doing every year before now. Our governor, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is also doing what we are replicating here on a bigger scale”, he said.
The medical outreach featured consultations and treatment by medical personnel, laboratory investigations, medication and the distribution of eyeglasses and wheelchairs to beneficiaries.
Eight wheelchairs were presented to persons with disabilities at the grand finale, while beneficiaries from the four development centres were also provided with medical support during the exercise.
Nnamani, a professional with B.Sc. and M.Sc. qualifications, is an associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and a member of the Certified Public Administrators. He is also an Australian Certified Surface Coal Mine Safety Expert and currently oversees Earthcore Mining and Energy Resources Limited.
He previously served as a Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor, an experience that supporters say has influenced his approach to public administration and community development.
His proposed legislative agenda for Nkanu West is centred on four key areas: healthcare, education, youth development and agriculture.
The outreach is part of Nnamani’s longstanding involvement in community healthcare initiatives. Organisers said he had sponsored free medical outreaches for about a decade, particularly in Agbani, before expanding the programme to cover the wider Nkanu West constituency this year.
The organisers said the expanded exercise was intended to reduce the healthcare burden on residents and complement interventions in the health sector by the Enugu State Government.
The conclusion of the outreach at Agbani brought together residents, community leaders, medical personnel and beneficiaries, highlighting the growing demand for accessible healthcare services at the grassroots.
