Obe Smart Green School in Nkanu West Local Government Area has emerged winner of the Spelling Bee and Debate competitions at the 2026 Computer Appreciation Test Competition held in Enugu.

The school recorded the highest score to defeat Queens Smart Green School, Enugu Campus 1, at the grand finale organised by Eco Ventures Nigeria Publishers Limited in collaboration with the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB).

The competition, held at the ENSUBEB headquarters in Enugu on Wednesday, August 5, brought together pupils and education stakeholders from across the state to promote academic excellence, computer literacy, digital skills and innovation.

Participants were drawn from public primary schools in 12 of Enugu State’s 17 local government areas, with winners in various categories receiving prizes, while all participants received exercise books in recognition of their participation.

Reacting to the feat, the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Ogbodo, described the achievement by the pupils of Obe Smart Green School as a validation of Governor Peter Mbah’s education reforms.

“This feat by the students of Obe Smart Green School is worthy of celebration because it has proven that Gov. Peter Mbah’s vision in the education sector is gradually being realized,” Ogbodo said.

He said the state government’s sustained prioritisation of education was an indication of its commitment to developing the human capital of Enugu State.

“Pupils and teachers have been onboarded and learning is taking place in a world class environment embracing the needs of the 21st century and deploying the tools that solve today’s tasks and consider emerging technologies,” he said.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Eco Ventures Nigeria Publishers Limited, Dr. Augustine Okoh, said the competition was part of the organisation’s efforts to promote computer literacy and support the Enugu State Government’s education transformation agenda.

Okoh commended Mbah’s investments in education, particularly the Smart Green Schools initiative, which he said was redefining teaching and learning through technology, innovation and digital skills acquisition.

He said the reforms aligned with the company’s vision of preparing pupils for a technology-driven future.
