Enugu: APC Ward Suspends Councillor Over Anti-Party Activities

The Obuoffia Ward chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State has suspended Donald Onovo, a councillor in the area, over alleged anti-party activities.

According to a press release issued, the decision followed a meeting of the ward executive committee, which passed a vote of no confidence on Onovo.

According to the party, the action was taken after the councillor was seen in a video participating in a meeting organised by another political party on March 31, 2026.

The ward chairman, Mr. Chukwudi Ikechukwu Ugwu, said the suspension is intended to reinforce party discipline, particularly ahead of the 2027 general election.

He called on party members to remain loyal to the party’s constitution and guiding principles. The party added that the development would serve as a deterrent to others.

It also noted that Onovo had previously been suspended and barred from legislative activities in the Nkanu West Local Government Council for gross misconduct, abuse of office, acts undermining legislative rules and order, and abuse of legislative privileges.

According to Nkanu West media, the Legislative Council, sitting on Thursday, 16th April 2026, unanimously suspended the Councilor to serve as a deterrent to other members and to uphold the legislative integrity of the Legislative Council.
