JUST-IN: Enugu Govt Introduces Food Credit Scheme for Workers

The Enugu State Government, through the Enugu State Marketing Company Limited, has introduced a Workers Food Scheme for civil servants in the state.

According to an advertorial by the company owned by the state government, the scheme which is intended to help the civil servants breathe a sigh of relief, allows them to purchase food items now and pay later through monthly salary deductions.

The Enugu State Marketing Company Limited is led by Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, who also doubles as the Adviser to the Governor of the state on Agriculture.

The initiative aims to put an end to the struggle of empty kitchens before payday, offering workers a dignified way to access food without resorting to borrowing.

According to the announcement, the scheme offers civil servants:

The process is simple and straightforward:

1. Verify your staff ID

2. Submit consent form

3. Get confirmed

4. Shop without payment

5. Salary deduction at month end

“It’s that simple. Why borrow money when you can shop with dignity?” the notice reads.

“No cash? No problem. We’ve got you covered,” the government assured.

The scheme represents a significant intervention to improve the welfare of Enugu State’s civil servants and reduce the financial pressure that often accompanies the end of the month.
