    JAMB Adjusts 2027 UTME Arrival, Exam Time Over Safety Concerns

    The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has revised the arrival and examination times for candidates taking part in the first session of the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

    Under the new arrangement, candidates are expected to arrive at their designated Computer-Based Test centres by 7:30 a.m., instead of the earlier 6:30 a.m. schedule.

    The examination will now begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 10:30 a.m.

    JAMB announced the adjustment in its weekly bulletin released in Abuja, explaining that the decision was prompted by safety and logistical concerns associated with candidates travelling to examination centres in the early hours of the morning.

    The board said the concern was particularly significant for candidates who live far from their assigned centres and may be required to leave their homes before dawn to meet the previous arrival time.

    According to JAMB, the decision followed deliberations at its 2026 Management and IT Retreat held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, from September 6 to 11.

    The retreat considered concerns raised by members of the public about the challenges candidates could face while travelling in the early hours, particularly those coming from distant locations.

    JAMB said the later arrival time was expected to improve the safety and convenience of candidates and potentially reduce absenteeism linked to difficulties with early-morning travel.

    The board, however, said other examination sessions would continue to operate under the established scheduling arrangements.

    The retreat brought together JAMB management, state coordinators, heads of outstation offices and other relevant stakeholders to consider measures for improving the efficiency, safety and credibility of the UTME.

    The participants also reviewed ways to enhance the overall examination experience as the board prepares for the growing scale and logistical demands of the exercise.

    Although the 2027 UTME is still months away, JAMB said preparations had commenced, with the board working to implement lessons from previous examinations and decisions reached during the retreat.

    It said the objective was to provide a more efficient, seamless and candidate-friendly examination.

    JAMB urged candidates and members of the public to take note of the adjustment and await further official communication on the full 2027 UTME timetable and other examination arrangements.

    Sale of JAMB UTME forms begin today

    Barring any change in plan, the sale of forms for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence today.

    The UTME is an assessment examination conducted annually by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for candidates who desire to secure admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

    The sale of forms, according to JAMB, would run till Tuesday, 14th February, 2023. Similarly, the Direct Entry (DE) registration, it added, would commence from Monday, 20th February and run till Thursday, 20th April, 2023

    Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in a statement late last year, disclosed that Saturday, 29th April, 2023, had been fixed for the conduct of the 2023 UTME, and the examination was expected to run till Monday, 12th May, 2023.

    JAMB said it had also fixed Thursday, 16th March, 2023, for the conduct of its optional mock-UTME. It noted that interested candidates would be required to pay the sum of N1000 service charge for Computer Based Test (CBT) centres for the conduct of mock examination at the point of registration so as to prevent a situation where candidates would indicate interest to sit for the mock-UTME leading the various centres to commit human and material resources only to stay away on the day of the examination. JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, in the statement, confirmed that the decision was taken at the end of JAMB’s management meeting.

    Jamb e-PINs to be sold on electronic payment platform

    Remita, an electronic payment platform, has started the sale of Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) ePINs to candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

    This follows a recent announcement by the examination body, the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB), of the sale of ePINs for UTME and Direct Entry registrations till May 15, 2021.

    Prospective candidates are to commence the process by registering their National Identification Number (NIN) by typing the word ‘NIN’, then space, adding their 11-digit NIN and sending as an SMS to 55019. They would receive a 10-character confirmation code on the telephone number that would be used to purchase their ePIN.

    They are to then proceed to the Remita website and click ‘Buy JAMB form’, select ‘UTME’ or ‘Direct Entry’ and input their confirmation code, registered phone number, and other necessary details.

    Candidates can make payments using their debit/credit card, internet banking, mobile wallet, USSD and others options.

    Once payment is completed, PIN is delivered to the candidate’s phone number and also displayed on their Remita receipt.

    Product Manager, Applications and Vertical Markets at SystemSpecs, Kayode Osinulu, said the providers of Remita, said prospective candidates of the 2021 UTME are guaranteed fast, reliable and seamless registration when they buy their ePIN on the Remita platform.

    Head of Public Affairs and Protocols, JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the UTME mock examination will be held on Friday, April 30 for those who indicate interest and are registered before April 24, while the UTME will hold from June 5 to June 19, 2021.
