Enugu Air: Mbah Deserves His Flowers

    By Clinton Umeh

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.” — Jonathan Swift

“The purpose of looking at the future is to disturb the present.” — Gaston Berger

Every generation is remembered for the leaders who merely managed the present and those who dared to redefine the future. History rarely celebrates administrators who simply maintained the status quo; it reserves its highest honours for visionaries who imagined possibilities others considered unrealistic and then summoned the courage to turn those possibilities into reality.

That is why the words of Irish writer Jonathan Swift and French philosopher Gaston Berger aptly frame the unfolding story of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the emergence of Enugu Air.

Swift reminds us that “Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others,” while Berger insists that “The purpose of looking at the future is to disturb the present.” Together, they capture the philosophy that has increasingly come to define governance in Enugu State—a philosophy that refuses to be imprisoned by yesterday’s limitations.

When Peter Mbah campaigned on the mantra “Tomorrow Is Here,” many dismissed it as another catchy political slogan. In a country where campaign promises often evaporate after elections, cynicism was understandable. But nearly three years into his administration, that phrase has gradually transformed from campaign rhetoric into a measurable governance philosophy.

Among the clearest manifestations of that philosophy is Enugu Air.

It is more than an airline. It is a statement of intent.

It is a declaration that Enugu no longer intends to occupy the margins of Nigeria’s economic map but seeks to become one of its defining centres of commerce, investment, tourism and innovation.

Only a few years ago, suggesting that an Enugu-based professional could attend a breakfast meeting in Abuja, conclude business in Lagos, and still return home to have dinner with family in Enugu would have sounded unrealistic.

Not because aviation technology did not exist.

Not because the distance was insurmountable.

But because the infrastructure, logistics and political will required to make such convenience possible simply did not exist.

People had resigned themselves to inconvenience.

Business executives routinely spent nights in Lagos or Abuja because flight schedules offered little certainty. Entrepreneurs postponed opportunities because travelling from Enugu often meant uncertainty. Government officials, investors, consultants, academics and professionals built extra days into simple business trips—not out of necessity, but because the system demanded it.

Many accepted that reality as normal.

    Visionaries rarely do.

    Peter Mbah evidently did not.

Where others saw limitations, he saw opportunities.

Where many saw geographical disadvantage, he saw strategic advantage.

Where critics saw an ambitious dream, he saw tomorrow.

    Today, that tomorrow has landed.

With dedicated Enugu Air flights connecting Enugu with Abuja and Lagos, the impossible has quietly become routine.

The businessman can now conclude negotiations in Victoria Island and return to Enugu before nightfall.

The investor can attend meetings in the Federal Capital Territory without worrying whether an available return flight exists.

The civil servant no longer needs to budget for expensive hotel accommodation because official engagements extended beyond available commercial schedules.

Parents spend evenings with their children instead of hotel rooms hundreds of kilometres away.

Professionals regain valuable hours previously lost to travel uncertainty.

This is not merely about aviation.

It is about giving people back their time.

Time is perhaps the most valuable economic asset any government can help its citizens preserve.

When transportation becomes predictable, productivity increases.

    When productivity increases, investment follows.

When investment follows, prosperity becomes attainable.

This is precisely why the significance of Enugu Air extends far beyond the aviation sector.

Its greatest contribution may not even be the aircraft themselves.

    Its greatest contribution is confidence.

Confidence that Enugu is open for business.

Confidence that investors can plan efficiently.

Confidence that conferences can be scheduled without anxiety.

Confidence that businesses no longer have to relocate to remain competitive.

That confidence is already reshaping the state’s economic outlook.

Across Nigeria, Enugu is increasingly positioning itself as a preferred destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE).

    This is no coincidence.

Modern conference economies thrive on accessibility.

International investors do not simply examine tax policies.

    They examine logistics.

    They evaluate connectivity.

    They assess convenience.

Before deciding where to host billion-naira conferences, organisations ask simple questions:

    Can participants arrive easily?

Can they return the same day if necessary?

    Will transportation discourage attendance?

Increasingly, Enugu answers those questions convincingly.

The magnificent Enugu International Conference Centre—another flagship project of the Mbah administration—has become a physical symbol of that ambition.

    Its imposing architecture signals seriousness.

Enugu Air provides the accessibility required to maximise that investment.

One without the other would never fully realise its potential.

Together, they represent integrated planning rather than isolated projects.

    That distinction matters.

Governments often build infrastructure without considering how one investment complements another.

Mbah appears to understand that economic ecosystems work best when projects reinforce each other.

    Air transportation supports conferences.

    Conferences stimulate hospitality.

    Hospitality expands tourism.

    Tourism drives local commerce.

    Commerce creates employment.

    Employment strengthens household incomes.

That is how sustainable economic transformation occurs—not through isolated announcements but through connected thinking.

Critics often reduce governance to ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

True development, however, lies in the relationships between projects.

Enugu Air is therefore not merely an aviation story.

    It is an economic story.

    It is an investment story.

    It is a tourism story.

    It is a jobs story.

    It is a productivity story.

Most importantly, it is a story about confidence.

One of the least appreciated achievements of the airline is the restoration of what may be called regional identity.

For decades, many states relied almost entirely on external transport systems that neither reflected nor prioritised their economic aspirations.

Today, Enugu possesses an aviation identity of its own.

For many Ndi Enugu, this is deeply symbolic.

It communicates that the state is no longer waiting for development to happen elsewhere before benefiting from it.

It is creating its own pathways.

It is defining its own future.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this achievement is that accessibility has not been reserved for the wealthy.

Despite offering premium convenience, Enugu Air has remained competitively priced, making it one of the most affordable domestic carriers in Nigeria.

    That affordability is significant.

Infrastructure fulfils its purpose only when ordinary citizens can access it.

An airline designed exclusively for elites would merely reinforce inequality.

An airline that allows students, entrepreneurs, civil servants, traders and professionals to travel efficiently becomes an instrument of economic inclusion.

That appears to be the philosophy driving Enugu Air.

Of course, no ambitious project is beyond criticism.

    Every airline faces operational challenges.

    Schedules evolve.

    Routes expand.

    Customer expectations rise.

Those realities should encourage continuous improvement rather than diminish what has already been accomplished.

After all, perfection has never been the prerequisite for progress.

History teaches us that transformative leadership often encounters scepticism before it receives applause.

The leaders who build enduring legacies are seldom those who waited for universal approval before acting.

They acted because they understood that vision always appears unreasonable until it succeeds.

That brings us back to Jonathan Swift and Gaston Berger.

Swift spoke about seeing what others could not.

Berger believed the future should disturb the comfort of the present.

Peter Mbah’s Enugu Air embodies both philosophies.

    It challenged accepted limitations.

    It disrupted conventional thinking.

    It replaced excuses with execution.

    It transformed aspiration into infrastructure.

In public life, praise is often reserved for yesterday’s achievements after history has rendered its verdict.

Yet there are moments when recognition should not wait for the passage of decades.

There are moments when society must acknowledge genuine progress while it is still unfolding—not as political patronage, but as encouragement for visionary governance.

Enugu Air is one such moment.

It represents more than aircraft flying between cities.

    It represents ambition taking flight.

    It represents confidence restored.

It represents a state daring to compete nationally and regionally.

Most importantly, it represents what becomes possible when leadership chooses to imagine tomorrow instead of managing yesterday.

And for that, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah deserves his flowers.

Peter and Doubts – By Onochie Jon-Igwesi

    By Onochie Jon-Igwesi

The date was Thursday, 17 June 2021. The venue was the Michael Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, and the event was the well-attended ‘Oganiru Enugu East Senatorial Zone Rally’. It was a gathering of the entire political and traditional paraphernalia of the zone. All heavyweights and political juggernauts of the six local governments that make up the large spread of Enugu East Senatorial Zone were at the venue.

First-tier governorship aspirants arrived at the venue in flamboyant fanfare, amid flying flags with their names and faces, upheld banners, loud bands and tons of supporters that shook the grounds of the square. The acrobatic display by colourful masquerades unlocked another layer of flavour. From the popular WAEC bus stop, to the gates of the Enugu State House of Assembly, all a part of the Three-Arms Zone, it was electrifying. The voting population roared in excitement as they sniffed the thick air of the political season at the time. That rally served as the perfect cue signaling the political over-readiness of the zone to produce the next governor of the state in line with the spirit of zoning that dominated the state’s political space.

As boisterous as the atmosphere was, something remarkable to the discerning — barely a handful at the time — happened. One first-tier aspirant walked in so quietly. He was escorted into the venue by just his personal assistant, and was shown his reserved seat among other aspirants, while his driver and a few security details waited outside. Grapevine sources revealed that he had just flown into Enugu for the event and drove straight to Okpara Square from the airport. There were no crowds of supporters. There was no band. No group wore clothes or caps branded with his name or picture. There were no flags with his face flying.

Gradually, onlookers began to murmur. For those whose lips didn’t move, their faces spoke. “How on earth was he going to emerge as the state ruling party’s flagbearer with no show of strength?”, they wondered. Peter and Doubts!

That man Peter Mbah, who was doubted, who bestrode the political space, totally recalibrating the scale of governance in Nigeria and among subnationals, would later go on to not only win the primaries but also become the state’s fourth governor of the Fourth Republic, and the poster boy of refined governance.

Of books, tons have been written. Yet, one of the greatest classics of all time is Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power. Law 36 of the book reads: Disdain Things You Cannot Have – Ignoring Them is the Best Revenge.

As boring as it is, expectedly, there’s a similitude of the doubts of 2023 playing out ahead of 2027. Some persons illusorily believe that Peter Mbah’s second term is a reality that will not be. So hurt that 2023 did not play out like they had hoped, they resorted to disdaining the same seat they so coveted because they couldn’t have it at the time like they wished. Ironically, they hope, even when there’s palpable fear of failure among them, that the seat will be theirs in 2027. And so, to pull the wool over our eyes, they put on pseudo-confidence, draped in half truths, screaming scarcity where there’s sufficiency, darkness where there’s light, and drought where there’s rainfall, forgetting that a man becomes a critic when he cannot be an artist. But they speak not for all of us. For even as their lies appear to be flowering, the seeds of their disillusionment are being sown. As Martin Luther King Jr. puts it: “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice” – and justice is Peter’s second term.

One under-discussed aspect of human psychology is that if you do good, people will demand better with a sense of entitlement, and if you do extremely bad, people will beg for good with fear. Peter understands this, yet like a priest at the altar of disruptive innovation, he has dedicated himself to doing the greatest good for the greatest number.

Peter’s mind works in a way that is esoteric. His programmes defy logical reasoning so much that it makes sense to doubt them. Yet, for every ounce of doubt you share today, he makes mincemeat of it tomorrow. They doubted the possibility of Enugu Air but today, that airline has 6 aircraft, will get to 20 aircraft and just got its Air Operator Certificate within a significant 6 months, faster than the industry timeline of 15 to 24 months. Hotel Presidential seemed like what was best for it was to be sold off, yet that monument, once dead but now resurrected, stands as a reminder of the labours of our heroes past. We did not imagine that Monday would ever return as the first day of the week, yet you can now be the judge of that. And the unending list continues, from the nationally admired International Conference Centre; dualization of the Ugwogo-Opi and Enugu-Abakaliki roads; a vehicle assembly plant; the joint venture with Landmark Africa Group that has rebranded Nike Lake Resort; the nearly completed 5-star hotel; to the gobsmacking N1.62trn 2026 Budget. Peter’s administration plans to build five more world class transport terminals in Emene, Udi, Awgu, Four-Corners (Ozalla) and Oboloafor, in addition to those already built and in use in Abakpa, Gariki, Nsukka and Holyghost. It equally set aside 15 per cent of the 2026 budget for providing 15,000 mass housing units. If all of Peter’s projects were to be mentioned, you, my reader, would probably scroll or flip pages endlessly to get to the end of this piece.

Now, think about these projects, a tidbit of the developments that Enugu has witnessed in three years, and ask yourself whether we should reward hard work or hoaxes in 2027.

In due course, the questions of 2027 will not be why or whether he will be re-elected, but about why the opposition attempted to mislead the people of Enugu into thinking that there’s an alternative somewhere. It will be about we the people reminding Peter that having served the first four years strikingly well, he MUST fulfill the remainder of his charter in the second term that we have given him.

Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani was a two-term governor. Barr. Sullivan Chime was another two-term governor. Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was also a two-term governor, and just somehow, you assume that Ndi Enugu will fail to return a moderniser-in-chief and development oracle, His Excellency Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for a second term? Peter is the moment and he rides into May 29, 2027 on the chariot of brilliant victory. There’s no doubt about this.

To Gov. Peter Mbah, do not grow weary. You’re convincingly on the right track. If the people – your people – have raised concerns on certain issues, where adjustments can be made, please do, like you did by slashing land-related taxes by about 60%. We are aware that some of those you trusted the most are gearing up to run against you, simply for self. We are aware of how you have continued to make efforts to reach out to, and assuage political gladiators who may have felt bruised in whatever way. It demonstrates that your fountain of meekness and accommodation overflows. In the fullness of time, you will reap your rewards.

  • Enugu APC Registration Exercise: Acceptance or Political Optics?

Enugu APC Registration Exercise: Acceptance or Political Optics?

    By Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor, Ph.D.

When Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2025, it was received with open arms and admiration by many across the country who were already in APC. The national leadership, through their body language, showed full joy as they had made a significant move into the South-East den of the PDP by capturing one of the best leaders in the region. Many saw this as a political coup, a rare opportunity to win over a critical part of the South-East, long considered a stronghold of the PDP.

It was not long before the party started its membership registration and revalidation exercise, which many thought would be a smooth process. The national leadership of APC planned for the exercise to start on December 1 and end by January 30, but Enugu began its own exercise on January 9.

During the flag-off ceremony of the exercise, which was held at Owo, the political ward of the governor, he stated that the party was targeting about 2 million members within the next three weeks. This target represented over 90 percent of the entire registered voters’ population in Enugu State, according to INEC’s 2023 data of 2,112,793. The number seemed ambitious but possible if the exercise was conducted with proper planning and engagement with local communities.

Immediately after the start of the exercise, which required the National Identity Number as well as the Voter Identification Number of each member, registrants began experiencing difficulties. What was expected to be smooth and simple started giving grassroots party leaders concern. Udi Local Government was initially at the top in registration numbers, but over time, other local governments began catching up. Leaders across Enugu worked hard to engage people, mobilizing resources to assist with the registration exercise. They used funds for radio announcements, public campaigns, and outreach programs to ensure people understood the process.

Some council chairmen were accused of forcing civil servants to join APC, while others were reported to be using fake empowerment programs to manipulate locals into registering. These accusations created tension in some areas, with members of the public questioning the integrity of the exercise. Despite these challenges, the effort to mobilize support continued.

What became clear was that Enugu did not initially like or accept APC. Even on radio programs, people accused Governor Mbah of backsliding from being the best-performing governor to one of the worst since joining APC. Those who voiced such opinions often admitted it was just rhetoric, yet the perception influenced many. To some, anything about APC seemed negative, while PDP remained the only party people could trust.

Questions arose across the state about the low turnout. The exercise did not involve complex requirements, yet many people did not participate. Governor Mbah’s local government, despite being his home area, was among the lowest in registration until just a few days before the initial deadline. The National Working Committee of APC later extended the registration exercise until February 8 to give more people time to join.

The reasons for low registration in Enugu were not far-fetched. Much of it was connected to those promoting APC. When APC started in 2013, it was demonized and labeled by PDP leaders as a party linked to Boko Haram. Former PDP leaders now advocating for APC had previously presented it as a northern Islamization agenda aimed at dominating the South and subjugating the Igbo people. In Enugu, they mocked Rochas Okorocha by calling him ‘Okoro Awusa’, a name meant to ridicule him. PDP leaders spent more resources demonizing APC than campaigning for their candidates and party.

This campaign of misinformation influenced many in Enugu to ignore the good works of President Buhari in the state. Even when Buhari commissioned the world-class Postgraduate Centre of Excellence at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, in 2019, many dismissed it as part of an Islamic agenda. Such perceptions created distrust in APC and slowed the pace of membership registration.

It became almost laughable that some political leaders who spent lots of resources to demarket APC are now accusing innocent council chairmen, who were either in school, learning a trade, or abroad then, of being lazy or not serious about the exercise. Others claimed the low performance of local leaders caused people not to join. These accusations ignored the real problem: the psychological and political barriers created by years of misinformation. This situation calls for a massive reorientation of the people to understand that APC’s policies and activities were not harmful but rather beneficial to the state, unlike as it was propagated.

Former PDP leaders now supporting APC have a critical role to play. They need to unite and use the extended period to educate the locals. Grassroots support is essential, as without it, political victories will not be easy to achieve as anticipated. It is very important for all to know that more effort is needed in rebuilding trust and convincing people that the party could work for them; until all these are done, even reaching half the target of 2 million members would be a herculean task, because manipulation or coercion alone cannot solve the problem.

What is happening in Enugu APC, Enugu State, teaches a clear lesson about politics in Nigeria, because people’s opinions are shaped not just by the actions of leaders but also by the narratives they are exposed to over time. In Enugu, years of PDP propaganda against APC created a climate of suspicion, and to overcome that, it requires strategic communication, patience, and consistent engagement.

Gov. Mbah Honoured as Pacesetter’s ‘Governor of the Year’

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has been has been bestowed with the Governor of the Year award at the 5th Frontier Discourse Annual Public Lecture Series and Awards, organised by Pacesetter Frontier Magazine.

The 2025 edition of the Frontier Discourse Annual Public Lecture and Awards, which cognises individuals and institutions making outstanding contributions to governance and national development, was held in Abuja under the distinguished chairmanship of the lawmaker representing Abia South Senatorial District, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, and co-chairmanship of the President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.

According to the organisers, Governor Mbah was selected for his remarkable achievements in just two years in office, particularly his efforts in repositioning Enugu’s economy and transforming the state into a vibrant and premier investment destination.

The Founder of the magazine, Onochie Igwesi, praised him for redefining the socio-economic landscape of the Coal City through visionary policies, infrastructure renewal, and a commitment to sustainable growth, describing him as one of the most impactful governors in Nigeria today.

Upon assuming office, Mbah set an ambitious target to grow Enugu’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.

According to the organisers, that vision is already yielding results. They cited a recent BudgIT report ranking Enugu as Nigeria’s most fiscally viable subnational government, with the strongest capacity to operate independently of federal allocations.

Mbah also earned commendation for his decisive action in ending the Monday sit-at-home order imposed by non-state actors, a move credited with restoring normalcy and economic activity across the state.

“Governor Mbah has revived and rehabilitated moribund state-owned assets.

“It is to his credit that Enugu became the first state in Nigeria to fully assume control of its electricity market, following the presidential assent to the Electricity Act of 2023,” Igwesi stated.

Recollecting on Mbah’s administration’s mantra, ‘Tomorrow is Here,’ he described the governor as “a leader whose governance philosophy is rooted in transparency, traceability, and accountability.”

“In just two years, Enugu has caught a full glimpse of tomorrow — today,” he added.

The Magazine described him as a “Maverick doubly certified to be ahead of his time.”

In his remark, Governor Mbah, while thanking the management and staff of Pacesetter Frontier Magazine for the honour, described the magazine as an unflinching promoter of democracy and good governance.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Liaison Office in Abuja, Barr. Chuks Ugwu, said the award would only make him and his team to work harder to sustain the goodwill and confidence realized in him by the people of the state and Nigerians in general.

  • Mbah’s Defection to APC Strategic for Enugu, South East – USA Igwesi

Mbah’s Defection to APC Strategic for Enugu, South East – USA Igwesi

Former House of Representatives member, USA Igwesi, has described Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a bold and strategic move for the people of Enugu State and the South East region.

Speaking with journalists in Enugu, Igwesi said Mbah’s decision to move with the entire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure was “timely and visionary,” reconnecting the Coal City State to the nation’s political mainstream after years in opposition.

“Governor Mbah is smart and strategic. He knows what and when to act. Everyone who followed events in the PDP knows he had had enough of the shenanigans in that party. The PDP is irredeemable, and its crises are self-inflicted. Enugu people are happy with his decision,” he stated.

Igwesi, a former Majority Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, said the governor’s alignment with the Federal Government would accelerate development across the state. “With Enugu and Abuja now under the same party, Mbah’s mission to reposition the state is fully assured,” he said.

He noted that the massive turnout during Mbah’s defection reflected genuine grassroots support. “The holistic political shift from PDP to APC will reinforce the governor’s visionary infrastructural revolution,” he added.

According to him, Governor Mbah will be remembered for reconnecting Enugu to the national political grid after years of isolation.

Igwesi lamented that despite the South East’s decades-long loyalty to the PDP, the zone gained little in return. He argued that Mbah’s switch to the APC serves the region’s strategic interests.

“The move is significant because it aligns Enugu and, by extension, the South East with the political mainstream. It makes no sense for Enugu, the capital of the region, to remain in opposition,” he said.

Igwesi further praised Mbah’s leadership record, noting that his defection would give fresh impetus to the state’s infrastructural transformation.

“Governor Mbah’s defection will strengthen Enugu’s ties with the Federal Government and help the entire South East benefit from President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

  • Chijioke Edeoga Again?

    Chijioke Edeoga Again?

By Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor , Ph.D

On Saturday, August 30, 2025, political leaders from Enugu East Senatorial District gathered at the Enugu International Conference Centre to discuss the progress of the state. Many notable figures from the zone who are progressives attended, and serious deliberations were made on unity and development, especially in the zone.

During the session, Barr. Chijioke Edeoga was invited to move a motion affirming that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has performed well and therefore deserves the full support of the zone beyond 2027, so that power could eventually rotate to Enugu West Senatorial District which he did unapologetically. After Edeoga moved the motion, Hon. Anioma Frank, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, who served as moderator, called on Dr. Ben Nwoye, leader of the progressives, to second it.

In the course of seconding, Dr. Nwoye digressed a bit to speak about Minister Uche Nnaji. He also used the opportunity to call on Governor Mbah to join APC and realign Enugu with national politics, because his roadmap to development aligns with that of the renewed hope agenda of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

It was at this point that some paid persons deliberately twisted Edeoga’s mere presence on the podium to suggest that he was part of Nwoye’s remarks. Such a false narrative is not only dishonest but also a show of cowardice and immaturity. Everyone present knew that Edeoga’s mission was solely to move a motion in support of Governor Mbah, not to contribute to what Nwoye said. He has devoted his time and energy to support the Governor, after being convinced that such is the best way to approach development through politics and it seems his support to the Governor is even more pure than that of many who are even in PDP.

For the record, there is a political battle currently in Enugu APC, that is between APC Progressives led by Dr. Ben Nwoye, which I am part of, and those who have weakened the party, led by Minister Uche Nnaji. Linking Barr. Edeoga to APC quarrels where he has no involvement is nothing but an attempt to create needless unrest in Enugu and those behind it should abstain from that.

What they intend to achieve is still oblivious to me, howbeit, it is also important for all to know that Barr. Edeoga has been a friend of the Minister since 1998, and nothing visible has happened to change that relationship.

Therefore, the social media attacks that followed against the Isi Uzo born legal luminary are clearly coordinated onslaughts by sponsored data boys and political actors unsettled by the implications of his return to the PDP and his decision to stoically work with Governor Mbah. To me, these attacks might have also come from different directions, but all of them are threatened by Edeoga’s renewed alignment and still allegedly and conveniently sponsored through the machinery of those in the APC, Labour Party and no party.

Using his appearance on the podium as an excuse to launch attacks with deepfake apps is childish. Rather than embrace progress, these groups have chosen to spread deepfake videos and manipulated narratives to tarnish his image. Their fear is simple. They know that unity between Edeoga and Governor Mbah strengthens not just the Governor but also the political stability of the state.

Politics of development should not be about falsehoods or propaganda. It should be about service, loyalty, and truth. Governor Mbah has already shown leadership that inspires confidence, and Edeoga believes that supporting the Governor is the right step for the people of Enugu.

Those who attack him today will later understand that his actions may have been guided by a higher principle, which is the pursuit of unity and progress. No deepfake or propaganda can erase the fact that his role at the meeting was only to move a motion of support for Governor Mbah in the collective interest of the zone.

When I had a chat with Edeoga to understand his position on the politics of Enugu State, he made it very clear that Governor Mbah’s performance is already building and nourishing a special brand new unity across the state and thus has his full support. Such is the position of a man who is experienced in the game and though I may not like the Governor, that is his stance which he does not look perturbed.

Instead of resisting this progress, those who are sad should either respect his decision or mind their business. To me, Edeoga’s decision may favour or harm him, depending on the sincerity between Governor Mbah and him even though I still do not trust the latter. In all honesty, the future of Enugu State lies with leaders who can work across divides and put the people first.

Until then, no amount of lies, manipulations, or manufactured controversies will succeed in hiding the truth, which is simple. To tell the truth, APC needs Governor Mbah, and he should listen to the calls made by the progressive agenda leader led by Dr. Ben Nwoye.

Those attacking Barr. Edeoga should remember that he simply exercised his right to take a political decision that he believes will serve his people. It is better for others to also make their choices openly instead of spreading confusion.

No one should create tension in the state because of differences in political direction. Peace is more useful than strife, and progress can only come when leaders allow one another the freedom to choose their path.

“Dey your dey, and allow ndị ọzọ to also dey their dey, to avoid imebi Enugu; makana onye mebie Enugu, ọ kwụọ anyị ụgwọ.”

2027: Enugu APC Stakeholders Woo Governor Mbah to Join Party

    Doris Ewoh, Enugu

At a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in Enugu, APC leaders, including Dr. Ben Nwoye and Barr. Eugene Odo, have signaled their readiness to welcome Governor Peter Mbah into the party, as internal rifts over leadership and integrity continue to stir debate.

This declaration was made during the Enugu APC Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at De Sheriff Hotel, Enugu, which was monitored by several members of the press, including PACESETTER correspondent. The meeting focused on the theme: “Repositioning APC Enugu State to Win Elections in 2027 and Beyond.”

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Nwoye emphasized that the only way to sustain the current legacy and development in Enugu State is for Governor Mbah to continue beyond 2027. He appealed to Mbah to join the APC, noting that every new member strengthens the party.

Following this, a motion was moved by Dr. El Ajah to formally accept Governor Mbah into the party if he chooses to join. The motion was seconded by Comrade Ngene Obama, and unanimously supported by all members present.

Barr. Eugene Odo, former Enugu House of Assembly Speaker, also expressed his support, stating that he would be pleased if Mbah joined the APC. He went further to reference a recent Enugu State High Court ruling declaring that Ugo Agballa is no longer the state chairman of the party and should cease parading himself as such.

Odo also addressed ongoing controversies involving the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Hon. Uche Nnaji, who, he said, has been accused of presenting a fake certificate. He called on the party leadership to set up a committee to visit the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to verify the Minister’s academic credentials.

“We want to advise the leadership of the party to possibly set up a committee to go to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to confirm, so we can know what the Minister represents,” Odo said.

Also speaking, Barr. Bartholomew Ugwuoke, former ACN chairman, noted that the “genuine APC” is back in Enugu and called on former members to return, saying, “We are moving fast.”

In his remarks, Hon. Sunday Onah, Deputy Chairman of the party, cautioned Chief Uche Nnaji on the continued support of Barr. Ugo Agballah, alleging that Agballah was expelled as state party chairman.

He noted that the State Working Committee would be left with no option but to take disciplinary action if the support continued.

Barr. Godwin Onwusi, Chairman of the 2023 House of Assembly APC Aspirants Congress, criticized the party’s recurring practice of suspending members.

“I have never seen a party where the stock-in-trade is to sack people. People come in, and when asked to view things from different angles, they get suspended. We cannot leave our party to birds of passage. These people will come and go. Hopefully, we are here to take back our party,” he said.

Mrs. Kate Nwafor, former Enugu State APC Publicity Secretary, expressed optimism, stating that with the renewed direction, the APC in Enugu is returning to its original path and purpose.

“With this new trend, I’m confident we are going back to our original stance to become what we used to be,” she said.

Reacting to the allegation of forgery of results by the Minister, an Enugu APC youth leader, Chidiebere Ezeh, who spoke to our correspondent over the phone, stated that the allegations were “just propaganda”.

“This is a non-issue, as it’s just propaganda by the opposition to tarnish the image and name of Chief Uche Nnaji.

“The DSS and other relevant bodies screened him before his assumption of office, so if there are any issues of certificate forgery, the DSS and NYSC should be in a position to address that.”

Gov Mbah Inaugurates 5 Ultramodern Bus Terminals, Rolls Out 100 Mass Transit CNG Buses Across Enugu

…Launches New Transport Mgt. System, over 80 bus shelters

…This is unprecedented – Planet Project MD

In an uncommon move that changes the transportation landscape in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah, on Thursday, inaugurated five ultramodern transport terminals in various parts of the state in line with his integrated blueprint for a modern and multimodal transport ecosystem.

Mbah also launched the Enugu State Modern Transport System that would enable residents commute with ease, as well as a digital platform and over 80 modern bus shelters constructed across the state.

The terminals visited and personally commissioned were the Holy Ghost Terminal 1 (Enugu Central Station 1), designated for inter-state transport; Holy Ghost Terminal 2 (Enugu Central Station 2) for inter-city transport; Nsukka Terminal (Nsukka Central Station); Abakpa Nike Terminal (Abakpa Central Station), and Gariki Terminal (Gariki Central Station).

Mbah said the projects, which drew huge crowds and elicited palpable joy among the residents, were a key part of the administration’s integrated five-terminal Transport Infrastructure Projects, Phase 1, in line with his vision to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.

Features of the terminal include food courts, banking halls, motels, shops, CNG refilling stations, and cinemas, while the Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by 400m long sky bridge, said to be the longest in Nigeria. The buses feature free wifi and security equipment.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at the Holy Ghost Terminal 2, the governor recalled that until the commencement of the project in late 2023, the Holy Ghost area was “practically a synonym for chaotic traffic and general disorderliness.”

Continuing, he said, “Aside from the fact it constituted a major municipal blight, we knew we could not attain our audacious economic goals if we lacked an efficient public transport system that offered both comfort and dignity.

“We knew that our goal to make Enugu the most livable city in Nigeria would be a futile bid if we were unable to tackle problems such as persistent traffic gridlock.

“So, from the very first day of this administration, we made a promise: to build a world-class transport system that moves people, connects businesses and communities, and, crucially, that rightfully positions Enugu State as a model of modern governance, sustainable growth, and human dignity.

“Today’s commissioning of the newly completed world-class terminals and the CNG Bus Mass Transit Scheme is indeed beyond a ribbon-cutting exercise. It ushers in a whole new experience; fundamentally connecting our vision to action, and our action to the daily lives of the over seven million residents of Enugu State.”

He explained that alongside the CNG Rapid Bus Service (Mass Transit Scheme), the terminals were “central pillars of our transport agenda – a multimodal highway to the future – integrating road, rail, air, and waterways into one seamless, safe, and efficient ecosystem.”

He also described the terminals as catalysts for economic development and “engines of economic revival.”

“They represent our capacity to deliver projects that empower Ndi Enugu and set our state on a robust trajectory of growth.

“Already, this project is creating jobs, stimulating SMEs, and positioning Enugu to compete with Africa’s best. Through it, we’re creating over 20,000 jobs across BRT, 2,000 hybrid city taxis, airport operations, ride-hailing, and support services.”

He said that the Enugu Transport Management System would eliminate corruption that had been the bane of government enterprises to ensure sustainability, counting on an e-ticketing system that eliminates leakages, guarantees transparency, and ensures every payment is accounted for.

“Commuters simply need to purchase a ticket and top up as they find suitable. Remarkably, a single valid ticket grants the holder access to other buses. Importantly, our comprehensive insurance coverage protects both the assets and the people who use them,” he stated.

Mbah thanked President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to the state’s development.

“Through words and deeds, the President has demonstrated a sincere love and support towards Enugu – and indeed the South East’s progress. An example is the concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, which would clearly reposition Enugu as an aviation and economic hub.

“So, we commend the President because no administration has given as much support to the sub-nationals as this President has done,” he concluded.

In his goodwill message, the Programme Director/CEO of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, who was represented by Engr. Tari Mayor-Bright, commended Governor Mbah for the ultramodern terminals and massive deployment of CNG buses.

“This is not just infrastructure, but a bold step in setting up a modern transportation system geared towards a cleaner, safer, and more affordable transport for the people of Enugu State,” he stated.

Also, the Managing Director of the contractors, Planet Project Construction Company, Biodun Otunola, said that building five terminals simultaneously was unprecedented.

“No administration has ever done this before in the history of Nigeria. We are in this industry and we have the records,” he stated.

He described the terminals as products of good research and the political will of the governor to get things done.

Speaking at the various locations, the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor; Council Chairman of Enugu North LGA, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh; Chairman of Nsukka LGA, Engr. Jude Asogwa; Chairman, Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Samuel Asadu; Chairman, Ogige Market Traders Association, Hon. Onyema Idoko; President, Nsukka General Assembly, Clinton Ogbonna; Chairman, Enugu East LGA, Beloved Dan-Anike; Traditional Ruler of Nike, Igwe Julius Nnaji; Chairman, Enugu South LGA, Hon. Caleb Ani; and the Chairman, Enugu South Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Mike Nna Ukwu, expressed the people’s joy over the projects and buses, describing them as economic catalysts.
