2023 Presidency: kingsley Moghalu joins ADC ahead of 2023 elections

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and ex-presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu, has joined the African Democratic Congress ahead of 2023 general elections.

Moghalu, who made this known on his Instagram handle on Friday, shared an e- flier as proof of his membership in the ADC, with the caption, “Its official!”

His words in the flier read, “”I believe we can re-engineer Nigeria’s economy through… the well-known dynamism and innovative spirit of Nigerian youth. I ask all my political supporters, to join the ADC.”

Moghalu was also present in a conference held by the ADC on Friday, which was streamed live on the party’s Facebook page.

In June 2021, Moghalu declared his intention to run for Nigerian presidency again in the 2023 general elections.

The former presidential candidate who ran under the Young Progressive Party in 2019, promised Nigeria an “inclusive national leadership on the one hand, and the fundamental constitutional restructuring of Nigeria on the other.”

Moghalu’s defection to ADC comes a day after South West Agenda 2023 was launched to rally support for the 2023 presidential bid of National Leader of All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who inaugurated the group, described Tinubu as a rallying figure and a beacon of hope for progressive leadership in Nigeria.

  • Former Presidential candidate kingsley Moghalu declares Interest to contest

As the clamour for Igbo Presidency come 2023 intensifies, former presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has declared in his interest to contest the poll.

The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), had at the weekend supported the clamour for southern Nigeria to produce the President in 2023.

National Leader of SMBLF, Edwin Clark, had urged the region not to accept any political position except the presidency come 2023.

Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, in a statement, declaring his intention to contest the presidential election in 2023, said his presidency will be hinged on four pillars tagged SWAG.

Said Moghalu, who polled 21,886 votes in the 2019 presidential election: “For the sake of the youths of our country, including my four children whose future is being drowned in reckless foreign borrowings, and for the sake of all Nigerians suffering and seeking a clear alternative to the status quo, I intend with all humility to present myself again as a candidate for the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2023 general elections.

“If elected, I will run a government with a dream team of highly competent Nigerians from all parts of our country. Along with strengthened, independent institutions, we will deliver results on a 4-point agenda in four years (4 by 4): Security for all Nigerians and Nigeria’s territory; war against poverty, skills, jobs for our youth, and an innovation economy; accelerated education and healthcare reform; good governance, inclusive, transparent, effective, and accountable.

“This is my SWAG Agenda for a 21st century Nigeria. I seek the support of all compatriots of everyone who is tired of our present national situation. We also need the energy and support of our youths, the middle class, entrepreneurs, and our compatriots in the diaspora.”

  • 2023 Presidency: Moghalu declares his intentions to make a second run for the presidency

A former presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu, says he’s making consultations on a second run for the presidency in 2023.

    Kingsley Moghalu

As a candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) contested in the 2019 presidential election but won less than 22,000 votes.

The 58-year-old promptly left the YPP and partisan politics to focus on electoral reform and voter education with a non-partisan platform called To Build A Nation (TBAN).

Moghalu said in a statement on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 that he’s already thinking about running again in 2023 to give Nigeria a competent leader.

“Will make my decision known when it’s final. And it won’t be 12 months to the election. Lessons learned.

“Nigeria needs a modern leader for the 21st century. Someone New. Different. Bold,” he said.

The political economist noted that an important criteria for choosing Nigeria’s next president should be competence.

However, he also hinted that the regional rotation of the presidency should finally be allowed to favour a candidate from his south east region to promote inclusivity.

“The key is to put competence first, and then look for it in a part of the country that has not been given the opportunity that has been given others,” he said.

The Anambra native said he’s got assurances from voters in 2019 that they would vote for him when it was the turn of his region to take the mantle of the nation’s leadership.

Nigeria has never had a president from the south east region, even though its Igbo population is one of the nation’s major three.
