  • Spain bound Suspect swallows 113 wraps of Cocaine weighing 1.75kg worth N423 million

     

    According to the Commander, MMIA Command of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Garba, “the suspect excreted 39 wraps weighing 600 grammes at 9.58am on April 5; 13 wraps weighing 200 grammes at 6.30pm same day; 16 wraps weighing 250 grammes at 10.30pm same day; and 32 wraps weighing 500 grammes at 7.30am on April 6.”

     

    In the same vein, operatives at the airport have intercepted a 2.8kg of skunk meant for Dubai in UAE through Emirate Airline. The illicit drug was concealed in crayfish; bitter leaves and melons packaged in a sack but was recovered at the SAHCO export shed of the MMIA.

     

    Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), in his reaction commended officers and men of the MMIA Command of the Agency for not allowing criminal elements take advantage of the Easter holiday to further their illicit trade, and dent Nigeria’s image abroad.

     

     

     

    “We all must stay committed to the ongoing offensive action at the airports, seaports, land borders, on the streets of Nigerian cities and across the various drug joints and even in the forests where some are hiding to cultivate and process cannabis sativa. We must disrupt their illicit trade and dismantle their cartels,” he charged.

  • NDLEA bursts brewery Truck with drugs

    Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Imo State Command have intercepted a 40-foot truck carrying Nigerian Breweries beer bottles, with 239 kilograms of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa concealed inside.

    This is even as the men of the Ondo State Command of the agency have arrested a 20-year-old man, Bidemi Timileyin with 6.12 grams of cocaine at a joint in Ajiboro community Ondo town, Ondo West Local Government area of the state, while other suspects escaped. Both seizures were made on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

    According to the Commander, Imo State Command of NDLEA, Nse Jack, preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit substances were loaded into the truck in Benin, Edo State on its way from Idiroko, Ogun State heading to Aba in Abia state. Three suspects arrested in connection with the seizure include: the driver, Okeke Linus (34); the conductor, Bokwagh Tivfa (29) and the courier, Chidi Ofondu (60).

    “On the 24th February, 2021, at about 1930hours, based on information, Imo state command intercepted a 40ft Fonton truck with registration number Lagos KJA 991 XZ, belonging to AG Leventis, Aba, a transporter for Nigerian Breweries, Aba, suspected of conveying some quantities of cannabis sativa at the control bus stop, Owerri, Imo state. The truck, which had empty bottles in crates belonging to Nigerian Breweries, was taken to the command headquarters, Owerri for a thorough search. In the process, 13 big bags of dried weed suspected to be cannabis sativa and weighing 239kgs concealed in between the crates of empty bottles were recovered.

    “The truck was coming from Idiroko where they had gone to deliver products and thereafter carried empty bottles back to Aba. They stopped at Okada, Edo State on the 23rd February, 2021 where they slept over, and it was in Okada they met the courier, Chidi Ofondu, where a total of 26 bags of the suspected substance were loaded. The trio left Okada in the morning of 24th February to Aba enroute Owerri. Thirteen bags of the exhibit were dropped along the road in Imo State before they got to the control Bus Stop, Owerri same day where they were intercepted”, the commander explained.

  • NDLEA confiscates 15,253.82kg of cocaine, cannabis, tramadol in Edo State

    Commander, Mr. Buba Wakawa, said 180 were males while 82 were females.

     

    He said 10 vehicles used in smuggling illicit drugs were equally impounded within the period under review, adding that 15 cannabis plantations measuring 11.82 hectares were identified and destroyed.

     

    Wakama noted that 86 drug-dependent persons were successfully counselled and reunited with their families, adding that eight drug traffickers were convicted while 220 cases were pending at the Federal High Court as at December 31, 2020.

     

    He said, “The Command recorded the achievement despite the COVID-19 lockdown and the EndSARS protest that led to the destruction of the State Command headquarters. Currently, we have 262 suspects in our net.

     

    “The various modes of drug concealment adopted by drug barons include use of silos, underground tunnels, cannabis warehouses as well as false compartments in trucks, buses and cars.”

  • NDLEA recovers two suit cases (21.9kg) of cocaine at Abuja Airport

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has recovered two suitcases of cocaine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

     

    The narcotic, weighing 21.9 kilogrammes, was the largest single seizure made by the Airport Command of the NDLEA.

    This was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Principal Staff Officer, Public Affairs, NDLEA, Jonah Achema.

     

    Achema, a Deputy Commander of Narcotics, said the two unaccompanied and unclaimed suitcases were discovered after the arrival of Ethiopian Airline ET 910 in Abuja from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

     

    Name tags attached to the bags indicated that they belonged to one Akomaye Ife and Nze Lusaka U.

     

    The statement said during the inward clearance of the flight, the vigilant officers of the command became suspicious upon noticing that the two briefcases were abandoned on the conveyor belt without any of the passengers claiming them.

     

    It stated, “The NDLEA commander directed the officers to keep an eye on the suitcases and informed the airline and its handlers of NDLEA’s interest in the luggage.

     

    “After a few days of no one claiming the luggage, the commander formally contacted the station manager of Ethiopian Airline and NAHCO Aviance, being the handler for the airline, indicating the suspicion of the agency of the suitcases and placed a standing order that NDLEA should be invited before the luggage would be released to the owner or in the event that the luggage would be returned to the point of embarkation.

     

    “After many weeks of no claim by the owners, the commander informed the airline on the need for search to be conducted on the unclaimed suitcases.

     

    “The airline officials, including the baggage handler along with the Department of State Services, Aviation Security and Nigeria Customs Service, were invited to the NDLEA office where the search was conducted.”

    According to the agency, the first suitcase was searched and found with three blankets out of which two contained parcels of transparent nylon which housed whitish substances suspected to be hard drugs.

    Field tests proved positive for cocaine and weighed 10.750kg.

    The box had a baggage tag with the name Akamonye Ife.

    The second suitcase reportedly contained 22 packs of shirts with one parcel of drugs concealed in each of the shirts and covered with a blue carbon paper containing a transparent nylon.

    “The substance was also field tested and returned positive for cocaine and weighed 11.150kg. The second suitcase had a baggage tag with the name Nze Lusaka U. The drug seized made a total of 21.9kg.

    “According to the NDLEA Airport Commander, Kabir Tsakuwa, investigation is ongoing and the command is currently liaising with the Ethiopian Airline to get more information in order to unravel the identity of the couriers,” the statement explained.
