WAEC, in a statement on Monday, confirmed the release of the 2025 WASSCE results, stating that only 38.32% of the candidates secured five credits including English language and Mathematics.

However, following the announcement, a fake circular purportedly from WAEC through its Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities, Dr. Florence Omobonike Ajayi, has gone viral and been shared across groups on WhatsApp.

The fake circular contained 120 schools picked across the country, majority of which are in Lagos State, stating that the “principals of the affected schools must appear before the Investigative Panel on or before Friday, August 16, 2025, with relevant documents and the scripts of the affected candidates where applicable”

When contacted by Tribune Online, the examination body said the list never emanated from WAEC.

In an exclusive chat with our correspondent, WAEC stated that it would never ask any school to bring the scripts of their candidates because no school has access to documents.

“The message never emanated from us. Moreover, WAEC will never ask any school to bring the scripts of their candidates to the office. Where would they get them from? We don’t know schools by their names. We only know centres and their Centre Numbers.” Tribune

Police also arrested two accomplices in Jikwoyi Phase II, Abuja.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the case began when Mr. Innocent, a resident of Jikwoyi Phase II, reported to the Jikwoyi Police Division that his 16-year-old daughter, Leadway Innocent, had gone missing.

Innocent explained that Leadway left home on Friday, July 18, 2025, to sit for an examination at Government Secondary School, Karu.

He later received a call from an unknown person demanding N5m for her release.

Adeh said; “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jikwoyi Division immediately launched a discreet investigation.

“Through coordinated intelligence gathering and digital tracking, the phone number used to contact the complainant was traced to a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II.

“Operatives proceeded to the location, where they found Miss Lead Way Innocent in the company of one Mrs. Tina Mayowa, the wife of Mr. Mayowa Adedeji.

“Both individuals were seen eating and conversing freely, indicating no signs of distress”.

Investigators arrested Leadway’s elder sister, Joy Innocent, and her boyfriend, Mayowa Adedeji.

Adeh noted that findings revealed Joy conspired with her boyfriend, who is legally married to Mrs. Tina Mayowa, to stage the abduction of her younger sister iin a calculated attempt to defraud their father of N5m.

Police discovered that Leadway willingly participated in the scheme.

Adeh said: “She willingly stayed with the suspects throughout her alleged abduction, while Joy remained at home and feigned ignorance, watching her parents’ anguish and emotional distress as they struggled to raise money for the supposed ransom”.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, condemned the act, describing it as a; “betrayal and manipulation, particularly one perpetrated within the family.”

Adewale urged parents to; “pay close attention to their children’s emotional well-being and behavioral patterns, and to encourage regular, honest communication at home.”

The CP confirmed that all four suspects remain in police custody, have voluntarily confessed to the crime, and will face charges in court after the investigation concludes.

Bolaji Tunji, special adviser on strategic communication and media relations to Mr Adelabu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Mr Tunji said that the minister gave the assurance during the commissioning of the Kwaru 1X15 MVA 33/11KV injection substation in the Ikotun-Egbe suburb of Lagos on Saturday.

“Nigerians have once again been assured of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s determination to ensure that citizens enjoy full and uninterrupted electricity supply before he leaves office,” the statement said.

Mr Adelabu said the president has continued to implement measures aimed at improving power generation, transmission, and distribution across the country.

“The present administration in Nigeria, led by His Excellency, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the Renewed Hope Agenda, recognises that energy is not merely a commodity; it is the backbone of economic growth and job creation.

“To ensure the growth and sustainability of the sector, the federal government of Nigeria continues to implement a multi-pronged approach, which has yielded some remarkable achievements,” Mr Adelabu was quoted as saying.

Beyond improving electricity supply to communities such as Abaranje, Isijola, Igando Road, Omoboriowo, Okerube, and surrounding areas, Mr Adelabu emphasised that the project would have far-reaching benefits for Lagos State’s economy.

“This initiative will reduce operational challenges caused by power shortages, provide direct support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), stimulate economic growth, and create new job opportunities,” he added.

He highlighted the key achievements under Mr Tinubu to include “the decentralisation and liberalisation of the power sector through the Electricity Act 2023, which has activated twelve state electricity markets and led to the development of a National Integrated Electricity Policy after 24 years.

“The attraction of over $2 billion in fresh investments to expand electricity access,” as well as “the transition towards full commercialisation, which increased the sector’s revenue by 70 per cent in 2024,” he said.

Other milestones, according to Mr Adelabu, include an increase in Nigeria’s installed generation capacity from 13GW to 14GW, with an all-time peak of 5,801.44 MW and a maximum daily energy record of 128,370.75 MWh on March 4, 2025. Premium Times

According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the ceremony took place on Sunday at the historic Yanbawa Shelter Belt in Makoda local government area of the State.

At the event, the governor stressed the urgent need to protect the environment and emphasised the critical role of tree planting in building a greener, safer, and more climate-resilient state.

“This campaign is not just about planting trees; it is about planting hope for the future,” he said. “By working together, we can combat desertification, restore our natural ecosystems, and protect future generations.”

He called on all citizens, traditional leaders, civil society organisations, youth groups, schools, market associations, and religious bodies to not only participate in the planting but also actively protect and nurture the trees.

Bature quoted Governor Yusuf to the have announced that all 44 local government areas in the state would receive their allocation of trees for further distribution to schools, communities, and other relevant institutions.

He further directed all local government chairmen to oversee the proper distribution and planting of the seedlings and to establish monitoring committees to ensure the trees are watered and cared for.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Dahiru Hashim revealed that the 5.5 million trees distributed this year were all locally grown at state-run nurseries which had been dormant prior to the current administration.

He said through the World Bank-supported ACReSAL project, two major nurseries, located in Mainika (Gwarzo) and Kafinciri (Garko), were revived and now central to the tree planting initiative.

Dr. Hashim further noted that this figure represents a significant increase from the 3 million seedlings distributed last year, attributing the improvement to the governor’s continued support. Leadership

Wike made this remark on Monday during a media parley in Abuja, where he addressed journalists on the ongoing development efforts and public concerns about the absence of formal commissioning for some completed projects.

“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems,” he said.

He noted, however, that the Tinubu-led government is tackling issues that directly impact the quality of life of FCT residents.

“But government is solving problems that at least will help to improve the lives of people,” he added.

On why not all projects are being officially commissioned, the minister explained that visibility is reserved for large-scale infrastructure works.

“It’s not possible for us to commission every project,” he said. “We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects, ones where billions of naira have been spent, and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?”

Wike urged the media to support the administration’s efforts by physically visiting sites of completed and ongoing works with relevant Mandate Secretaries, particularly in sectors such as education and social development.

“We’re not saying we’ve done everything. But we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance,” he stated.

In a statement issued via X on Monday, August 4, 2025, the examination body confirmed that candidates who sat for the exam can now access their results online.

“The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 4, 2025,” WAEC stated.

Umahi said that the publication titled “The Politics of Asphalt: Why is the South East Missing from the Map?” was mischievous and deceptive.

He demanded that Anagboso retract the statement immediately.

According to the minister, President Bola Tinubu has been fair to all regions of the country, including the South East.

He noted that Tinubu had revived 90 per cent of abandoned road projects, some dating back to 2013, and still executing new ones without discrimination.

He also said that four Legacy Projects were approved to cover all six geo-political zones.

According to him, one of them, which runs from Cross River through Ebonyi, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa to Abuja, includes a significant portion in the South East; about 231.64 kilometres and is already awarded at a cost of N445.8 billion.

The minister further said that the last Federal Executive Council meeting approved the review of the corridor length to 231.64 km at the same contract sum.

He added that Anagboso deliberately misrepresented this as an Oyo-Benue road to mislead the public.

He listed major projects ongoing in the South East to include the Second Niger Bridge Access Roads; Section 2A in Delta (N146 billion) and Section 2B in Anambra (N176 billion).

Other major ongoing projects the minister said were the Enugu-Onitsha Road (208 km), with MTN Tax Credit funding of N202 billion and CBC handling the remaining sections for N150 billion.

”There is also the Enugu–Port Harcourt Road in four sections; Enugu-Abakaliki, Afikpo-Abia-Imo, Onitsha-Owerri-Aba, Aba-Ikot Ekpene, and Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene,” he said..

Umahi urged the people of the South East to support Tinubu, noting that his administration had shown fairness and love to the region.

He also commended the South East governors for supporting the Federal Government and urged citizens to stand by them as they work for their second term in office.

According to him, One day, the South East will produce the President of Nigeria, but not in 2027.

He reaffirmed his commitment to correcting any false claims meant to deceive the people. (NAN)

The three‑day forecast, released Sunday in Abuja, signals heightened risks as the nation enters a critical phase of the rainy season.

The agency predicted morning thunderstorms on Monday in the northern states of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina, with conditions expected to intensify later in the day.

“There is a high possibility of flood occurring over parts of Adamawa, Taraba and Bauchi states during the forecast period,” NiMet said in its statement.

In central Nigeria, light rains are anticipated in the morning across Benue, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory. By afternoon and evening, showers are expected to spread into Plateau, Kwara, and other neighboring states.

Cloudy skies are forecast for much of the south, with light rains likely in Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa in the early hours. Later, more widespread rains are expected, with NiMet warning of potential flooding in Oyo, Ogun, Edo, and Delta.

On Tuesday, the agency projects continued morning thunderstorms across the northern belt, particularly in Taraba, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, and Zamfara. “Thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over the entire region later in the day,” the agency noted.

Central states, including Abuja, are expected to experience intermittent rains, while southern states from Lagos to Calabar may see persistent showers. NiMet specifically cautioned residents in Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom to prepare for possible flooding.

By Wednesday, thunderstorms are forecast to sweep through Taraba and Kaduna in the morning, with isolated storms and moderate rainfall later across Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, and Kano. The central region will again see light showers in the morning, with more widespread rains by afternoon. In the south, intermittent rainfall is predicted in states including Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Cross River. Bayelsa faces the highest flood risk mid‑week.

Warnings for residents 

The agency urged residents to take precautions. “Avoid driving under heavy rain, and states with the possibility of flash floods should activate their emergency response systems immediately,” the forecast said.

NiMet also advised households to secure loose objects, wear warm clothing during cooler nights, and disconnect electrical appliances during storms.

Airline operators were told to seek airport‑specific weather briefings for flight planning. NiMet encouraged Nigerians to follow updates on its official website to remain prepared.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mukaila Sanusi.

The statement read, “These estates, deemed illegal due to their failure to obtain layout approvals from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, were listed in a document published by the Ministry on Monday.”

According to the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Oluwole Sotire, the illegal estates compromised the sustainable development ethos and the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda of the Lagos State Government by operating without approved layouts.

He said, “The identified illegal estates include Adron Homes, Elerangbe; Aina Gold Estate, Okun-Folu; Diamond Estate, Eputu; Prime Water View Garden, Ikate Elegushi; and Royal View Estate, Ikota, among others.

“The Permanent Secretary has given the owners of these estates 21 days to submit the necessary documents to his office in the Ministry of Planning and Urban Development, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, to process their layout approvals.

“That exercise is a routine function of the Ministry, in line with its mandate to regulate the development of public and private estates in Lagos State by processing and granting layout approvals to foster a functional, organised, orderly, and resilient smart city, as encapsulated in the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda of the Lagos State Government.”

He also emphasised the importance of all developers and real estate practitioners registering with the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority, which is responsible for regulating, coordinating, and monitoring real estate practitioners in the sector. Punch
