The Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA) has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has failed to comply with a Federal High Court judgment directing it to issue the party with its Certificate of Registration.
According to a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Citizen Umar Abdulrazaq Abdullahi, the Federal High Court, in a judgment delivered on June 23, 2026, ordered INEC to issue the CDA with its Certificate of Registration within seven days of being served with the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment.
The statement said the Certified True Copy of the judgment was served on the electoral commission on July 1, 2026, adding that the court’s deadline expired on July 8, 2026.
However, the party stated that as of July 17, 2026, INEC had neither issued the Certificate of Registration nor communicated any lawful basis for its continued non-compliance with the judgment.
The CDA maintained that respect for judicial decisions is fundamental to constitutional democracy, arguing that court orders are binding on all individuals and public institutions, including agencies established under the Constitution.
The party called on INEC to comply with the judgment without further delay by issuing its Certificate of Registration as directed by the court.
It also appealed to civil society organisations, the media, members of the legal profession, pro-democracy advocates, and other Nigerians to support the defence of the rule of law and the sanctity of judicial decisions.
The statement added that the Citizens Democratic Alliance remains committed to pursuing democratic governance and offering Nigerians a credible political alternative through lawful and constitutional means.
