His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. K.O.N. Orizu III, CON, JP, the traditional ruler of Nnewi, has been honoured with the 2025 Sun Award for Outstanding Royal Leadership.
The award was presented at a ceremony held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, in recognition of the monarch’s long-standing commitment to truth, peace, and exemplary traditional leadership.
Igwe Nnewi, regarded as the longest-serving monarch in West Africa, was praised for his enduring reign marked by wisdom, stability, and communal harmony.
The award was received on his behalf by the Nnewi Crown Prince, Dr. Obi Orizu (Obinechendo), accompanied by members of the royal family and prominent sons and daughters of the ancient town.
Residents of Nnewi and members of the wider Igbo community have expressed pride in the recognition, describing it as a testament to the monarch’s integrity, sagacity, and God-ordained leadership.
They noted that the honour reinforces Igwe Nnewi’s legacy as a royal father whose reign has consistently promoted peace and unity within and beyond Nnewi.
