The Labour Party Governorship Candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu, has assured Ndi Anambra that under his leadership, the era of multiple taxation, insensitivity, and poor governance will come to an end.
Dr. Moghalu made this declaration during his community-to-community campaign visit to Nnobi and Umuoji, where he received a rousing welcome from residents who expressed confidence in his vision for a better and fairer Anambra.
Addressing the people at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nnobi, Dr. Moghalu said his administration would restore the dignity of the ordinary citizen by prioritizing social welfare, infrastructure, and education. “Good governance must have a human face,” he said.
“We will reintroduce scholarships for our intelligent children up to university level. Our elderly citizens from 65 years and above will enjoy free medical care, while those from 70 years will receive monthly stipends. Within three months of my administration, insecurity will be brought under control.”
Dr. Moghalu acknowledged the cries of Okada and Keke riders, who expressed frustration over the heavy taxes imposed on them daily. He promised to drastically reduce these levies, end multiple taxation, and restore fairness to the state’s tax system. He also condemned the poor state of roads across the state, describing it as a reflection of failed leadership.
“Most of the roads being constructed don’t last one season,” he noted.
“Funds meant for local governments are hijacked, leaving them with only ten percent. That will stop under my watch.”
Before his campaign engagements, Dr. Moghalu paid homage to His Royal Majesty, Igwe (Engr.) Muodum Nick Obi, the traditional ruler of Nnobi, and later visited the palace of Chief Chris Nnedu (Odezuligbo), the Igwe of Umuoji, alongside the Igwe-in-Council. He reaffirmed his deep respect for traditional institutions, describing them as pillars of stability and custodians of communal values. Accompanied by his running mate, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, Dr. Moghalu urged Ndi Anambra to reject vote selling and unite behind a vision of integrity, equity, and people-driven governance that will truly restore dignity to all.
