EDO DECIDES: APC’s Okpebolo Leads in Results of 16 LGAs, Collation Centre Goes on Recess to Resume by 5pm

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, is leading in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.

According to the results from 16 LGAs announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday, Okpebholo secured 244,549 votes, while Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, garnered 195,954 votes.

Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, LP, got a total of 13,348 votes.

Meanwhile, INEC has announced a 3-hour recess to await results from the final two local governments.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, called for the recess around 2:19pm.

According to Prof Kuta, this is to allow for the arrival of results in two more local government areas.

He said the centre will reconvene at 5pm to call results from the remaining 2 states and possibly announce the winner of the Saturday election.

So far, results from 16 LGAs have been presented at the commission’s headquarters in Benin City.

Out of the 16 local government areas declared, APC is leading in 10 while PDP is leading in 6 local government areas.
