A foremost socio-cultural group, Ikenga Nkanu Worldwide has set up and inaugurated a high-powered burial committee in preparation for the commencement of the final burial rites of Late Chief R.N Okenwa, OON, mni.
Speaking at the inaugural joint meeting of Late Chief Okenwa’s, national & state burial committees and the socio-cultural group held, Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the palace of HRH Igwe Julius Nnaji (Odezuluigbo III of Nike), the Chancellor, Ikenga Nkanu Worldwide, Sir S.N.C Nwagu noted that Late Chief R.N Okenwa deserved a befitting burial.
“We are people of high reputation and regards – and our brother, Late Engr. R.N Okenwa, Nnanyelugo 1, OON, mni, deserves to be given a befitting burial”, he said, charging members to put in their best to ensure a smooth running of the committees.
Following a resolution signed by Sir S.N.C Nwagu; Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji; Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa; the Burial Committee Chairman and Secretary, Hon. Prince Paul Nnaji and Comr. Chukwudi Nwatu, respectively, the Obsequies were detailed as follows:
- Thursday, 14th November, 2024 – Wake-keep in his country home, Eziobodo Village, Oruku Nkanu East LGA, Enugu State by 4pm.
- Friday (Orie), 15th November 2024 – Burial proper and interment in his country home, Eziobodo Village, Oruku, Nkanu East LGA, Enugu State by 9am.
- Saturday, 16th November, 2024 – Funeral Continues.
- Sunday, 17th November, 2024 – Thanksgiving Service.
Furthermore, six sub-committees were set up as follows:
- Protocol – Dr. G.O.C Ajah – Chairman
- Publicity – Chief Fidelis Anih – Chairman
- Finance – Hon. Chief Wilson Okenwa – Chairman
- Works – Hon. Prince Engr. Lawrence Ezeh (PhD)
- Culture & Tradition – Chief Tony Iyiagwo – Chairman
- Entertainment – Hon. Onyeka Onwe – Chairman
Thanking the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah “for his continuous support in this move so far”, the burial committee chairman, Hon. Prince Paul Nnaji, appreciated those in attendance, noting that “as we join forces together, we shall achieve our goal”.
