The Lagos State Government has announced that 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses will be rolled out before the end of the year.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi. made this known at the commencement of the 2024 ministerial briefing.
Osiyemi said the state government has partnered with private operators on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to bring in CNG buses. He said a private transport operator is set to launch 231 electronic vehicles in June.
While rolling out the achievement under the ministry of transportation in the last one year, he said the automatic number plate recognition technology captured 856,680 traffic violators from January 2023 to March 2024. And the traffic management solution devices handled by vehicle inspection service officers captured 10,421 violators between January 2023 and March 2024.
Osiyemi further explained that with the introduction of the traffic management solution devices being handled by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials also captured 26,816 violators between January to March this year, adding that the state government will also be launching the LASTMA complaint call centre before the end of this month, to create easy access to the agency.
The commissioner for transportation added that over 5,000 motorcycles have been impounded by the State Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit in the last two months.
