About six people were confirmed dead, while 15 others sustained injuries in an auto crash involving a commercial bus and an articulated vehicle at Sekona on the Ogbomoso-Odo-Oba Road, Ogo Oluwa Local Council of Oyo State.
Also, a commercial motorcyclist died, yesterday morning, after he ran into a stationary vehicle at Gbede, very close to Ote, on the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Road, Surulere Local of the state.
According to the witnesses, the victims were all adult males and their remains have been deposited at the morgue at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, while the injured were taken to Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso for medical treatment.
The Guardian learnt that the commercial bus with 21 passengers on board and the articulated vehicle were heading to the Northern part of the country before the accident.
An eyewitness, Seun Fakorede, said: “The accident occurred on Sunday in the evening. The driver of the bus tried to overtake the articulated vehicle at a sharp bend, but he suddenly lost control of the bus and ran into the trailer.
“The bus immediately veered off the road and somersaulted almost five times. Five people died instantly. Others were quickly rushed to the hospital by the road safety officials.”
Ogbomoso Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Isaac Adebayo, who confirmed the incident, said it occurred on Sunday evening at about 17:00 hours.
“Five of the passengers on board the bus died on the spot.
“Also this morning, my people had to go for another rescue on the Ilorin road. An Okada rider ran into a trailer again at Gbede, very close to Ote. He also died.”
