The All Progressives Congress (APC) has produced a mix of returning lawmakers and fresh entrants as candidates for the Federal House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, in a primary election outcome that reportedly surprised many political stakeholders across Imo State.
However, the outcome of the APC primaries held on Saturday altered expectations, as only four serving lawmakers secured return tickets while several new entrants emerged victorious.
The returning lawmakers include Akarachi Amadi for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Tochukwu Okere for Owerri Federal Constituency, Eugene Dibiagwu for Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency, and Canice Moore Nwachukwu for Orlu, Orsu and Oru East Federal Constituency.
Among the new entrants who broke through in the primaries are Jonas Okeke for Okigwe South, Uchenna Agusu for Okigwe North, and Pat Ngozi Ekeji for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor-Okpala Federal Constituency.
Others who clinched the party’s tickets are Chukwudi Anyanwuocha for Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise, Sandra Nnenna Anyama for Ideato Federal Constituency, and Cosmos Madugba for Nkwerre, Isu, Nwangele and Njaba Federal Constituency.
The primaries also produced notable casualties, with political heavyweights including Chike Okafor, Ugonna Ozurigbo, Miriam Onuoha, and socialite-turned-politician Cubana Chief Priest reportedly failing to secure the party’s nomination.
The results have stirred fresh conversations within Imo political circles, with analysts describing the outcome as one of the biggest upsets in recent APC internal elections in the state. Nation
