Holy Ghost Terminals Strengthen Security, Arrest Over 28 Suspects

Dr. John Egbo, retired Deputy Sheriff and Managing Director of the Holy Ghost Terminals, says more than 28 suspects have been arrested in coordinated security operations conducted over the past two months as part of efforts to improve security within and around the terminal.

Dr. Egbo disclosed this while reviewing the terminal’s recent security operations, saying the enforcement exercise was being carried out in collaboration with relevant security agencies to address criminal activities and restore public confidence in the terminal environment.

According to him, the intelligence-led operations have focused on dismantling criminal networks allegedly involved in mobile phone snatching, robbery, assault, theft, harassment of commuters and other offences reported within the terminal and the adjoining railway corridor, particularly during night-time hours.

He said the suspects are currently in lawful custody and are facing prosecution on various charges, including robbery, assault occasioning harm, stealing, attempted rape and breaking into lock-up shops, adding that the cases are being handled in accordance with due process.

Dr. Egbo said the operations formed part of a broader security strategy introduced by the terminal management to strengthen surveillance, support law enforcement efforts and ensure a safer operating environment for commuters, traders, transport operators, business owners and other legitimate users of the facility.

He noted that the terminal management had enhanced collaboration with security agencies through regular patrols, intelligence gathering and continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas within and around the terminal to deter criminal activities.

According to him, the Holy Ghost Terminals and the adjoining railway corridor had, in the past, experienced recurring security challenges that affected public confidence and disrupted commercial activities.

He, however, said recent security measures had contributed to noticeable improvements, with traders, transport operators, business owners and commuters expressing confidence in the safer environment created through the sustained enforcement operations.

Dr. Egbo reaffirmed the management’s commitment to working closely with security agencies to sustain the ongoing operations and ensure that individuals involved in criminal activities are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He urged commuters, traders and other members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities through appropriate channels, noting that public cooperation remains essential to sustaining the gains already recorded.

Dr. Egbo added that the terminal management would continue to prioritise the safety of lives and property while strengthening measures aimed at maintaining law and order across the terminal and its surrounding areas.

According to him, the ongoing operations have strengthened security within the terminal, improved public confidence and reinforced the management’s resolve to maintain a secure environment for all legitimate users of the facility.
