Staff of the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS) have praised the Enugu State Workers Food Scheme following an enrollment and sensitisation session organised by the Enugu State Marketing Company Limited.
The engagement, held as part of efforts to expand participation in the scheme, drew strong interest from workers who sought information on registration procedures and available food products.
Several participants described the initiative as a practical response to rising living costs, saying it would ease the financial burden on civil servants and help them meet household food needs without resorting to borrowing before salary payments.
The workers also commended the Enugu State Government for introducing a welfare programme they said directly addresses the economic realities facing many public servants.
Officials of the Workers Food Scheme explained that the programme operates on a “Buy Food Now, Pay Later” model, enabling verified Enugu State civil servants to obtain essential food items and pay through salary deductions at the end of the month.
They said prospective beneficiaries are required to present their Employee Number and Verification Number, complete a consent form and undergo verification before accessing the scheme.
According to the administrators, the initiative was designed to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen food security and provide a dependable support system for civil servants across the state.
They added that feedback from existing beneficiaries has been largely positive, with many describing the programme as a convenient and sustainable means of accessing food supplies.
The enrollment drive continues at the Enugu State Marketing Company Limited, located at No. 24 Colliery Avenue, opposite the Enugu State Secretariat, Enugu.
