Ikeje Asogwa’s Senatorial By-Election Win Reflects Confidence in Mbah’s Governance — Minister Udeh

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh (SAN), has congratulated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ikeje Asogwa, on his victory in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Udeh described Asogwa’s victory as a resounding endorsement of the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah and the developmental strides of his administration.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Asogwa winner of the by-election conducted on Saturday, June 20, after polling 162,360 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 9,299 votes.

The election was held to fill the vacant senatorial seat following the death of former senator, Okey Ezea.

Reacting to the outcome, Udeh said the victory went beyond electoral success, describing it as a validation of the governor’s vision and governance philosophy.

“This landmark triumph transcends electoral success; it is a powerful affirmation of the visionary leadership, transformative governance, and development-driven stewardship of our leader and the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,” he said.

The minister added that the outcome reflected the confidence of the people in the administration’s programmes and policies.

“It is also a foretaste of greater victories ahead, as Your Excellency continues to lead with wisdom, intentionality, vigour, nobility, and grace, delivering transformative outcomes and matchless results,” he stated.

Udeh expressed confidence that Asogwa would provide quality representation for the people of Enugu North Senatorial District, also known as the Nsukka Zone.

“As we celebrate Chief Ikeje Asogwa’s well-deserved victory, I am confident that he will make the people of Nsukka Zone proud through purposeful, people-centred, and impactful representation,” he said.

He also congratulated the APC and Governor Mbah on what he described as a significant political victory for the party in the state.

The Enugu North Senatorial by-election was the first major electoral contest in the state since Mbah and key political stakeholders defected to the APC, making the outcome a closely watched test of the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
