A court-ordered public apology by Ugonwenyi Ngozi to her former husband, Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, has brought a legal dispute arising from a social media post to a close.
Ngozi published the apology on her social media platforms in compliance with an order issued on May 26, 2026, in Suit No. E/FHR/42/2026, following litigation connected to a video she posted on Facebook in January.
In the statement, she apologised to Ogbuekwe and the public, saying she never intended to violate his fundamental rights or damage his reputation.
“I wish to sincerely apologise to my ex-husband, Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, for the video I previously posted on my Facebook page in January 2026. It was never my intention to breach his fundamental rights or to cause any harm to his person and reputation or members of the public,” she stated.
Ngozi added that she respected the court’s decision and had fully complied with its directives.
The matter attracted public attention because it unfolded during a politically significant period for Ogbuekwe, who recently emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the chairmanship of Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Legal analysts say the judgment reinforces the principle that disputes involving personal allegations should be addressed within the framework of the law, particularly where questions of reputation and fundamental rights arise.
They note that while social media has expanded access to public communication, it also places greater responsibility on users to ensure that claims made on such platforms do not infringe on the rights of others.
Ogbuekwe, a mechanical engineer and former Special Adviser on Agriculture to the Enugu State Government, has held several public appointments and remains active in grassroots political mobilisation within Nkanu East.
As of press time, he had not issued any formal reaction to the apology, allowing the court order and the published statement to spe ak for themselves.
