Enugu And The Sudden Mysterious Killings.
By Sunday Nwanne
There is no doubt that Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a pacifist. He does not only mouth peace, he lives and acts peace. It is his administration’s major priority from inception. He has sustained and maintained peaceful and harmonious co-existence among the residents and indigenes of Enugu irrespective of differences in tribe, status and religion.
His administration and himself have sacrificed a lot for peace to reign and by his disposition is ready to sacrifice more for peace. Ugwuanyi is always available and accessible in the state almost 24 hours of the day, seven days of the week. He hardly travels and works round the clock to get result. He is indeed a home man who is at peace with himself and his people. He has engaged the youths meaningfully and has provided basic infrastructure, especially in rural areas that have been forgotten except during elections. These have drastically reduced crime rate and placed the state and its people in enviable status to the commendations and envy of others.
Even at the peak of the criminal activities of the so-called unknown gunmen in the Southeast region, Enugu was a safe haven for people because of its peacefulness, hospitality and security.
With the seeming reduction in the activities of the unknown gunmen in the Southeast region, following the strategic intervention of the security agents in the flashpoint states, it appears that some dislocated and dislodged unknown gunmen have found their way into some places in Enugu to cause mayhem in the state.
Ndi Enugu must not allow these criminal elements masquerading as unknown gunmen to destroy the hard-earned peace and security of Enugu through their mysterious, dastard and targetted killings of innocent people and security agents.
There is nothing unknown about these gunmen. They are known and are not spirits. They are living among the people and relate with them regularly. They are not operating from the moon. They have camps and allies who serve as their informants and accomplices.
The earlier the people help to expose them to the security agents and government, the better for Ndi Enugu, who have been living in peace. Shielding them and their activities for whatever reason is not to the best interest of Ndi Enugu, Enugu state government. Destroying the peace and security of Enugu is tantamount to breaching the peace of the entire Southeast region with ripple negative consequences. Government and security agents cannot do it alone. They need the co-operation and collaboration of the people to stem the tide before it gets out of hand to the detriment of all.
There are better ways to engage in agitations or express dissatisfaction. Such cannot be achieved through targeted and mysterious killings of innocent citizens in Enugu. Enough blood of innocent citizens have been shed by these mysterious unknown gunmen through their criminal activities. It is time for all hands to be on deck to tackle them.
Enough is enough. Enugu remains in the hands of God. Ndi Enugu should rally round Ugwuanyi’s government and security agents to end the sudden mysterious killings in the state in recent times.
