The Enugu State Government has announced a restriction of human and vehicular movements across the Enugu North Senatorial District for Saturday, June 20, 2026, as the by-election to fill the vacant senatorial seat holds.

According to a Public Service Announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the restriction will take effect “from 12:00 am (midnight) to 6:00 pm across the six Local Government Areas and 102 electoral wards that make up the Enugu North Senatorial District.”

Only “INEC officials, security personnel, accredited election observers, media practitioners, and other persons duly authorised for election duties” will be exempt from the restriction, the government stated.

“The people and residents of the district are encouraged to exercise their civic responsibility peacefully and in accordance with electoral guidelines,” the announcement read.

“Political parties, candidates, and their supporters are also urged to remain law-abiding during and after the exercise.”

Security agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, the government said.

The announcement concluded: “The Government appreciates the cooperation and understanding of all and wishes the people and residents of Enugu North Senatorial District a peaceful and successful election.”
