Sullivan Edeani, a first-class graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), has once again distinguished himself academically by earning a Master’s degree in International Relations with distinction from Tokyo International University, Japan.
Sullivan Edeani hails from Akpwafu in Nkanu East local government area of Enugu state. He is the publisher of Cable Reporters, an online news platform.
Edeani first made waves in 2020 when he graduated as the best student in the Mass Communication department at ESUT. His academic brilliance earned him the prestigious Japanese Government MEXT scholarship, making him one of only eight Nigerian recipients and the sole non-STEM scholar in his cohort.
Arriving in Tokyo, Edeani faced the challenges of adapting to a new culture, academic system, and language. Reflecting on his experience, he recalled:
“Two years ago, I arrived in Tokyo, one of eight Nigerian recipients of the prestigious MEXT scholarship and the sole non-STEM awardee in my cohort. I remember stepping out of Narita Airport, feeling like a traveler at the edge of a vast ocean—unsure whether to wade in gently or dive headfirst.”
Despite the initial uncertainties, he embraced the rigorous demands of his program, balancing coursework, research, and cultural integration. His dedication paid off when he successfully completed his Master’s program on March 15.
“Last Saturday, the 15th of March, I completed my Master’s in International Relations with Distinction. It was not just the culmination of rigorous academic work but also a journey of discovery—of ideas, cultures, people, and myself.”
Edeani acknowledged the challenges he faced along the way, describing moments of both struggle and clarity.
“There were times of struggle, like searching for stars in a clouded sky, and moments of clarity, like finding the perfect idiom in a foreign language.”
Through it all, he remained focused, drawing strength from his faith, family, and mentors.
“Looking back, I am filled with gratitude—to God, whose grace has been my quiet anchor; to my family, whose love stretches across the oceans like an unbroken thread; to my mentors and professors, who challenged me just enough to foster growth; and to my friends, who made life in Tokyo truly meaningful.”
With another academic milestone achieved, Edeani now looks forward to the next chapter of his journey.
“It has been a rewarding experience, and I eagerly anticipate what unfolds next. Great is God’s faithfulness.”
