Isa Umar, Abuja

Nigerians have lamented the poor internet service they have experienced since the commencement of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in the early ours of today.

Revealing that they had resorted to the use of Virtual Private Networks, VPN, netizens questioned whether the poor internet service was intentional on the part of telecommunication companies.

But according to a post by Peoples Gazette on their X handle, the Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Security Adviser were responsible for the poor internet connection.

The post reads in part:

“Telecom operators have informed Peoples Gazette that the NCC and NSA are hampering internet speed across the country in order to suppress information flow from the protesters to other Nigerians and the outside world.

“An administration official, confirming the interference, said isolating the protesters will deprive them of crucial oxygen of global support and make the unfolding crisis easier for the government to control”.

Reports of firing teargas and live bullets on protesters are all over the traditional and social media.

In Kaduna, an unidentified man was gunned down when police officers opened fire on protesters.

In Abuja, protesters gathered around Eagles Square, defying the court order restricting them to Moshood Abiola Stadium, were shut at with teargas by police officers.

A large number of protesters marched on a major road in Kugbo, Asokoro, within the Abuja Municipal Council Area (AMAC).

The protesters, numbering hundreds, refused to retreat despite gunshots and teargas fired by security operatives.
