FEC Approves Procurement Of 7887 Dialysis Consumables

The Nigerian government has approved the sum for the purchase of 7887 sets of dialysis consumables for use in some tertiary health institutions across the country.

The Minister of Health, Professor Mohammed Ali-Pate said this at the end of this week’s cabinet meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

Ali-Pate said “the decision would help a lot in bringing relief to patients of renal disease, especially those who cannot afford the cost of treatment.”

He said the step taken by the government was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda of bringing succour to citizens in the wake of challenges confronting various sectors.

The Minister said; “In continuation of the president’s efforts to bring relief to Nigerians including reducing the cost of access to healthcare services considering the fast growing non-communicable diseases that we experience in Nigeria; hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease and torero vascular disease, the council today approved the one-off purchase of 7887 sets of dialysis consumables for the use of Nigerians who are suffering from end-stage renal disease in seven of our tertiary health institutions.”

“The tertiary institutions that will benefit from the decision are;

“These hospitals are the University of Benin Teaching Hospital; the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute-Metta; Federal Medical Centre Owerri, National Hospital Abuja; Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Buchi,” he said.

The Minister further said that the move is an effort to make affordable the cost of treatment for those who suffer from end-stage renal disease through dialysis with this as just the beginning of many other interventions.

He also said the Ministry of Health is working hard to prevent the prevalence of diseases like hypertension and diabetes, which often culminate into kidney failure.
