Ebonyi Governor Slashes Varsity’s Tuition, Increases Emoluments of Staff

The school fees of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki have been slashed by 10 per cent, while the salaries of Academic Staff and Non Academic Staff were increased to 20 per cent and 10 percent respectively

Also, all indigens with first-class honours will be employed in the state varsity as Graduate Assistant Lecturers.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced the cheering news Saturday during the 12th-15th combined convocation of the State University Abakaliki.

The Governor stated that the convocation is another opportunity to reflect, deploy skills and make meaningful contributions towards the growth of the state in particular the nation in general.

He told the graduands to deploy homegrown solutions to solve homegrown problems, before seeking external assistance.

He urged them to put into use, knowledge garnered to solve problems in the country.

“You have acquired skills to keep you afloat, not to sink. Having undergone intellectual rigours, you are now equipped with survival skills and ready to solve the problems in the country.
“May I urge you to be good progressive ambassadors”.

To further boost the working morale of varsity staff and expand access to education, the Governor increased the subvention of Ebonyi State University from 200 Million Naira to 280 Million monthly.

Four prominent Nigerians including Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Dr. Tony Elumelu, Sen. David Nweze Umahi and Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim were bestowed with Honorary Doctorate Degrees.
