APC Extends Membership E-Registration To February 8

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended its membership e-registration exercise scheduled to end on Saturday, January 31, to February 8, 2026.

The national publicity secretary of APC, Felix Morka, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the end of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Friday.

According to him, the extension was to enable more prospective registrants to be enrolled in the exercise as there were clamours from many Nigerians to participate in the registration.

Morka also said the party’s ward congresses will hold on February 18 while the national convention takes place between March 27 and 28, 2026.

APC had earlier fixed March 28 for its national convention; zonal congresses for March 21 and state congresses slated for March 7 while local government and ward congresses will take place on February 20 and 18, 2026, respectively.

The APC spokesperson, however, told journalists that congresses will not take place in Osun State, Ekiti State, Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said the exclusion of the Osun, Ekiti and FCT from the congresses was due to the forthcoming governorship and area council elections in the states and territory, respectively.

Morka said Rivers is excluded from the exercise because the APC had held an off-season congress in the state and tenure of the elected executives was still subsisting.

“With respect to the exceptions for those states, Osun, Ekiti, FCT, and Rivers, there are two explanations. One, Ekiti, Osun, and FCT have upcoming elections. So we are exempting them in order for the elections to hold, and then congresses will then be scheduled in those states subsequently.

“With respect to Rivers, you will recall that we had congresses, off-season, off-cycle congresses in River state last year. The tenure of that executive that was elected at that congress is still subsisting, and therefore we must wait for that tenure to conclude before we then schedule fresh congresses in River state,” he explained.

Morka further disclosed that the NWC approved the composition of the coordinating committee for the party’s forthcoming national convention which would be published on Monday.

Also speaking, the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, said the extension was not informed by any challenge but requests from governors and other stakeholders to accommodate eager prospective registrants.

He said the party has recorded tremendous success in the exercise and the figure from the e-registration so far surpassed 7 million and would cross 12.5 million at the end of the exercise.

“We have received requests from many states that there are so many members that are still eager to register and based on that request, particularly by the body of the Governor’s Forum at the meeting we held with them day before yesterday, that was why the National Working Committee decided to extend, so that there will not be mischief to say APC extended registration because of lack of response.

“We are extending because there were requests from the stakeholders at the states and from our body of governors and because we also know that there are quite thousands. As of today, the people that are registered for our party, I will not give you a figure, that the figure is more than 100 countries in the world. So you can go and check.

“As of now, when I came here about a week or so ago, I said that we are going to cross the mark of 7 million. We have crossed that mark and by the grace of God, by the time we are closing on the 8th of February, we should have crossed the mark of 12.5 million by the grace of God,” Basiru added.
