Chidozie Iwundu struck twice, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner, as Rangers International edged Kun Khalifat 2-1 in their Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 21 encounter in Owerri.

The centre-back put the Flying Antelopes ahead three minutes before half-time, scoring his sixth league goal of the season to cap a dominant first-half display at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.

Kun Khalifat looked set to salvage a point when James Ekebuike equalised in the 87th minute, raising fears of another frustrating away outing for Rangers.

However, Iwundu had the final say in the 96th minute, completing his brace and sealing only Rangers’ second away win of the campaign. The goal took his tally to seven, making him the club’s top scorer, the NPFL’s second-highest goalscorer overall, and the leading scoring defender in the league.

The former Sunshine Stars defender has been one of the standout performers this season, blending defensive solidity with a growing reputation for decisive goals.

The victory moves Rangers up to eighth on the table with 33 points, keeping them within touching distance of the leading pack that includes Rivers United, Abia Warriors, Ikorodu City and Nasarawa United. They have now picked up nine points from 11 away fixtures.

Kun Khalifat remain rooted to the bottom of the table on 18 points as their fight for survival deepens.

Rangers will next face Warri Wolves in Enugu on January 21, with the visitors coming off a 2-0 win over Katsina United in Ozoro.
