The Labour Party community-to-community campaign train, led by its governorship candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, on Thursday stormed Umuokpu, Awka South Local Government Area, to a thunderous reception from jubilant supporters. The people, who thronged out in their numbers, expressed excitement at Moghalu’s visit and reaffirmed their faith in his leadership.
Addressing the crowd, Dr. Moghalu assured Ndi Anambra that his government would tackle insecurity decisively, noting that “anywhere there is insecurity, the economy cannot thrive.”
He outlined his vision for a secure, prosperous, and people-centered Anambra, pledging monthly stipends for citizens aged 70 and above, free medical care for those 65 and above, and free and compulsory education at both primary and secondary levels.
He further promised massive investment in education, agriculture, and industrialization, stating that his administration would create opportunities for the youth to thrive and contribute meaningfully to state development.
Dr. Moghalu reaffirmed his commitment to integrity and accountability in leadership, saying, “I will not betray your confidence; I will not let you down. Place your trust in us, give us a chance, and we will justify your confidence. Together, we will rebuild Anambra and make it work again.”
He was accompanied by his running mate, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, who charged the women of Umuokpu to come out en masse and vote for the Labour Party, assuring them that their government would prioritize women and youth empowerment.
In their response, the people of Umuokpu lamented the total absence of government presence in their community, stating that the only access road constructed in the area was done during the tenure of Mr. Peter Obi.
They decried excessive taxation and neglect by the present administration but vowed to deliver the Labour Party massively across their wards, expressing hope that a Moghalu-Okaro government would bring relief, equity, and meaningful development to Anambra State.
