The former Deputy Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. Onyeka Onwe, has commended High Chief Amechi John Onwe (Ikenga Ndigbo) for donating a 300KVA transformer to Umuonyi, Enuagu community, Amurri, as well as for his wider philanthropic efforts.

Onwe made the remarks during the commissioning of the project in Enuagu, Amurri. The transformer project, which could be described as a mini substation, included a protective metal housing — all fully funded and executed by High Chief Onwe.

Describing him as “a shining light to the people of Amurri,” the former council chairman and ex-chairman of Enugu State Sports Club said High Chief Onwe had delivered several people-oriented projects and would continue to do more.

“Recall that during Christmas celebrations and during COVID-19, High Chief Amechi Onwe’s intervention was humongous as bags of rice, cartons of noodles, tomatoes and other foodstuffs and condiments were shared to people,” Hon. Onyeka Onwe stated.

In his speech, the Vice President of Amurri Town Union, Mr. Oluchukwu Onyebuchi, who represented the President, said High Chief Onwe had done what government could not do for their community. He thanked God “for the gift of Onwe.”

Former councillor of Amurri Ward, Hon. Prince Ndubueze Ogbonna, described the donation as the first of its kind in Umuonyi, Enuagu, noting that High Chief Onwe had previously provided electricity poles for the community.

The Chairman of Umuonyi, Enuagu General Assembly, Mr. Orji Nwabuife, and the Youth Organisation Chairman, Hon. Obum Ogbodo, also expressed gratitude, saying High Chief Onwe had made the community proud.

Chairlady of Ositadinma Women Association, Mrs. Eunice Ejim, described Onwe as an illustrious son who has shown special care for women, “the highest beneficiaries of his magnanimity.”

Similarly, High Chief Emeka Okonkwo (Obebea Aku I of Amurri), High Chief Smart Onwe (Akaepkuchionwa I of Amurri), and Chief Sunday George De Gazaman, thanked God for using High Chief Amechi John Onwe to meet the needs of his people.

The event’s highpoint was the commissioning of the project, which was marked by colorful dances and songs of praise from the youths and women in celebration of Ikenga Ndigbo.
