The 2025 August Meeting across the Nnewi Catholic Diocese was given a political yet heartfelt touch as frontline governorship aspirant Dr. George Moghalu used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive governance.
Represented by his Personal Secretary Mr. Mathew and Special Assistant on Media Mr. Johnson Okoye, Moghalu’s delegation toured all parishes under the diocese, engaging with jubilant women dressed in their colourful August Meeting regalia. The receptions were warm and filled with songs, prayers, and words of encouragement.
In each parish, the team made cash donations and presented various gifts to support the women’s developmental projects and activities. The gesture was met with applause and gratitude as it reinforced Moghalu’s long-standing relationship with grassroots women’s groups.
Moghalu, in his message, hailed the resilience, leadership, and moral influence of women in shaping both family and community life. He reminded the gatherings that this recognition of their vital role was why he had chosen a woman as his running mate, a decision aimed at promoting gender balance and giving women a stronger voice in governance.
He also appealed for their prayers and support as he pursues his governorship ambition, promising that under his watch, women’s welfare, economic opportunities, and leadership roles would be prioritized.
The August Meeting, a revered annual platform for women to deliberate on community growth, family values, and social development, served as an ideal backdrop for Moghalu’s message of inclusion, service, and shared progress.
