6 persons died in APC-PDP clash over LGA control – Osun Police

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of six people following a violent clash between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday.

The confrontation erupted over control of the 30 local government areas in the state.

In a video broadcast on social media, the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, condemned the violence and called for peace, emphasizing the need for political actors to resolve disputes without resorting to bloodshed.

She said: “The event of yesterday left six people dead and many people were hospitalized. We are not happy with the situation.

“Before this ugly incident, various groups were called into a meeting by the Commissioner of Police to ensure peace but things went awry.”

She expressed sympathy with those affected by the crisis, noting that the CP has ordered a thorough investigation and promised that perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law.

Opalola urged citizens to remain calm and exercise caution as police work to restore peace.

“Those fomenting this trouble should desist from this act. This state is known for peace. We won’t allow anyone to disrupt the peace of our state. The IGP teams arrived yesterday night and deployed,” she added.
