Operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police have taken over the Lagos State House of Assembly, sealing off the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the House clerk.
According to Vanguard, security personnel arrived in the early hours of Monday, occupying the Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja. Passersby were frisked, and access to the premises was restricted.

This follows a legal battle initiated by the ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who has challenged his removal. Obasa, it was learned, has filed a motion at the Ikeja Division of the State High Court seeking an accelerated hearing.
Obasa was removed on January 13, 2025, in absentia, with 32 out of the 40 Assembly members voting him out while he was in the United States. President Bola Tinubu reportedly described the move as a “coup.”
The situation has sparked division within the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. The legality of Obasa’s removal remains at the centre of the controversy.
