Enugu: Nkanu-West Local Council Set to Hold Maiden New Yam (Iri Ji) Festival Oct. 27

The Nkanu West Local Government Council of Enugu State led by Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, in collaboration with the Nkanu West Traditional Rulers Council led by HRH Eze-Igwe Barr. Igwesi Obiora Igwesi is set to hold its maiden New Yam (Iri Ji) Festival, PACESETTER reports.

The festival which is slated for Sunday, (Ụka Afọ) October 27, 2024 will hold at the Nkanu West local government council headquarters, Agbani, Nkanu West L.G.A, Enugu State by 11am.

In an announcement jointly signed by the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Council, Hon. John Ogbodo and the Chairman of Nkanu West Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Eze-Igwe Barr. Igwesi Obiora Igwesi, the maiden new yam festival will provide an opportunity to thank God for the council.

“Patriots of this local government are cordially invited. This celebration will feature some of our rich cultural heritage and iri ji ọfuu.

“We’re specially calling on all our distinguished stakeholders, members of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Presidents General, Town union executives and all good people of Nkanu West to join us in this great event.

“Come and be a part of this historic cultural celebration in Thanksgiving to the God of our land”, the announcement jointly signed by the duo stated.

The new yam festival is about supreme sacrifices and about renaissance and restoration. It celebrates the living and the dead.
