Frank Nweke Jr, the Enugu State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has vowed to stem the tide of migration of youths from the state to other climes as governor by creating the enabling environment for investors to create jobs.
Nweke who spoke at a town hall meeting on Saturday, explained that his government will provide the enabling environment for investors to come into Enugu State. These investors will set up businesses and provide employment to the teeming youth in the state.
He observed that businesses have been fleeing from Enugu because of a lack of infrastructure, poor policy environment and inordinate demands from potential investors. He opined that there seems to be a deliberate attempt by the PDP-led government in Enugu State to ensure that businesses do not come to the state. However, Nweke assured the audience that his administration would be different.
“Once businesses are assured that they do not have to offer bribes to anyone, are aware that there will be no multiple taxation and know that government will be consistent with its policies, they will come. We will provide the circumstances for these businesses to come and it is these businesses that will create the jobs to keep the youths in Enugu,” Nweke said.
The town hall meeting, which featured presentations of manifestoes by some governorship candidates in Enugu State, took place at the Base Events Center, Enugu. Coal City Elites Forum, Enugu Literary Society, and various media organizations organized the meeting to enable Ndi Enugu make informed decision in choosing their next governor.
