Just In: Hon. Chijioke Edeoga resigns as Commissioner; to run for Governor of Enugu State

As the date for the end of purchase of the Peoples Democratic Party nomination and expression of interest form for the 2023 general elections, as well as the party’s primaries approaches, and in keeping with the provisions of the new Electoral Act, the Enugu State Honorable Commissioner for Environment and one of the frontline candidates in the Enugu 2023 Guber Race, Hon. Barr. Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga, has resigned his position as Commissioner, to enable him participate in the election as a gubernatorial candidate.

The Pacesetter Frontier Magazine reports that Edeoga confirmed the news of his resignation to our correspondent.

Edeoga who was previously published by The Pacesetter Frontier Magazine as one of the likely Guber candidates in the 2023 guber race, hails from Omulor Mgbuji, Eha–Amufu in Isi-Uzo LGA, Enugu State. Chijioke Edeoga holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007. He also holds Masters of Law from the prestigious University of London also in the United Kingdom.

His Political career began in 1992 following his appointment as the Press Secretary by the then Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo. He was also elected as the Chairman of Isi–Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State. He ran for the House of Representatives and was elected. While in the green chamber, he was the Chairman, House Committee on Information. Edeoga was also an Adviser on Legislative matters to the then Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, His Excellency, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu. From 2011–2015, he was appointed as the Special Assistant to Former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on National Assembly Matters. He has served as the Honorable Commissioner for Local Government Matters in Enugu State (2015 -2019). In 2019, Governor Uguwanyi re-appointed him as the Honorable Commissioner for Environment, a position he held until his resignation today.

He is a Knight in the Church and was born on October 2nd, 1964.
