The Department of State Services has warned about a plot by some elements working with external forces to incite religious violence across the country.
It stated that the masterminds planned to foment religious crises in Lagos, Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, and in the South East.
Part of the plans, according to a statement on Monday by the DSS spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, was to cause inter-religious conflicts as well as use their foot soldiers to attack some worship centres, religious leaders, personalities, key and vulnerable points.
The statement was titled, ‘Plot to incite religious violence in Nigeria.’
“Consequently, Nigerians are advised to be wary of these antics and shun all divisive tendencies aimed at inciting or setting them against one another,” it added.
While pledging to collaborate with other security agencies to thwart the plot, the service warned the plotters to desist from their nefarious plan in the interest of peace, security and development of the country.
The secret police admonished the citizens and residents to report any attempt to breach the peace around them to the nearest securi ty agencies.
